Kentucky women’s basketball coach Matthew Mitchell needed the procedure after suffering a concussion

Quote
“Coach Mitchell sustained a concussion in March. At the time, he believed he had recovered fully with rest and rehab. However, two weeks ago after experiencing a mild but persistent headache for an extended period of time, he sought medical attention. A subdural hematoma was discovered and he had successful surgery and is extremely appreciative of the excellent care he received at UK Chandler Hospital. He expects to fully recover.”

--UK Athletics spokesperson Evan Crane

Mitchell took over as Kentucky head coach in 2007 and has compiled an overall record of 303-133 with the Wildcats.

Kentucky went 22-8 overall this year before the season was prematurely halted.
Wildcats tied for third place in the Southeastern Conference regular-season standings with a record of 10-6 and were ranked No. 16.
