Coronavirus
« on: March 11, 2020, 10:38:50 pm »

Just wondering. Who is going to the track for the Rebel or isnít going cause of the coronavirus.  Does the weather determine what you will do?

If itís raining will you not go cause everybody will be inside?

Whatís your thoughts if your going or thinking about going?

I just want online classes for the rest of the semester

I will be there today and tomorrow. Haven't decided about Saturday yet.

I also have tickets to Motley Crue in Charlotte in July air fair has already been booked and paid for 3 months ago.. Curious what happens with that.

Also have next Thursday and Friday nights booked at Gold Strike Tunica to watch and bet the NCAA Tourney which probably won't be happening now.

Many that I know who were planning on going Saturday from out of town are cancelling.  The media is doing their job of spreading mass panic!  I get that this is a scary time...but no toilet paper anywhere?  What the F*&^?

Judging by how mass gatherings are being cancelled it will be surprising if racing isn't affected and it will happen sooner rather than later.

I love going to Oaklawn but I am probably weird because I like going when it's not a big stakes weekend.  Had a trip plnned for April 2, waiting to see what happens.
As far as running without fans, I always assumed that the purses were financed by entry fees and also the Cella's from proceeds of parking and concessions and the casino.  If there are no fans then can the Cella's afford to keep putting up money?  Or am I mistaken and all the purses are 100% financed by entry fees?

Santa Anita and Golden Gate Fields will continue racing,  but will be closed to the public starting immediately.

Guess it shows where their bread is being buttered.  It's the only explanation
I can think of anyway.

I agree with you man.  It makes absolutely no sense to me as well.  There is no
rational logic for them taking this approach other than just being greedy.

The slot machines are the nastiest things there are . Think how many people touch them daily.
This has gone beyond stupid.  I was there yesterday.  3RD floor hardly has anyone up there on a Thursday anyways but the regulars were there as usual.

This is to protect the horsemen and their employees. Itís not about the fans. Horsemen still have a say in all this.

Silver lining department:  at least this is happening during Lent.  I'd been having trouble coming up with something to "give up" for Lent.  But now there's so much I'm giving up without having to have even thought about it.

yea it was quite a bit more than the corresponding day last year. crazy. also crazy that FG was so excited about their handle yesterday.... it was half of oaklawns.

did anyone else see the last yesterday at FG. two horses alive to the black gold 5. and the favorite scr at the gate and the betting public HAMMERED a horse down from like 5-1 to 8/5 favoritism when the gates opened. of course its one of the ones that is alive to the whole pool of 130k and he skims the rail and wins... because of the scratch of the favorite and the late hammer job on this horse into favoritism the black gold 5 carried because everyone with the scratched horse was put onto this new horse... i would be sick.

Bars across from oaklawn had a great day Saturday.. $6 a pitcher much better than $6 a beer.

And my lack of any kind of racing luck continues.  Had $30 on the 2 in the last race Saturday was flying late lost by a long head or so at 40-1.

I won't be betting any races while they are closed.
