The capitalist in me says this is a good move if his goal was to someday be a college coach.

The cynic in me says that he thinks the talent is about to fall off somewhat at GW and he took the 1st boat out of town.

How old is Jones? Seems a little old to get into “actual” coaching in the college ranks. I could see the analyst aspect of it, though.

He's not a spring chicken, that's for sure. I'm guessing mid 50's?

Yeah, he has to be in his 50’s, I would think.

Edit: a quick google search said he had coached and taught for 42 years, he’s in his 60’s.

I seriously doubt it, he’s like Kelley, most of it is his system they ran from kindergarten on at their schools.

The article says that he is going to be a senior consultant to the head coach.  I would imagine that Eli needs someone to help him the day to day operation of being a coach.

Does Arkansas hire full time "consultants" like this? I guess Bama started the trend with all their "analysts"?

Yes, I believe so. This is why Alabama does it, anyway. (OC's or position coaches in waiting)

Edit: It looks like Alabama had 12 "analysts" on staff last season (!) ....more than the on-field coaches.

We had Turner Gill who was a consultant to the coaches, and players.

Well perhaps Jones can at least educate where exactly Missouri is AND which conference the Tigers.

Eli needs someone who can change his diapers and calm him down when he gets fussy.

Yeah, he has to be in his 50’s, I would think.

Edit: a quick google search said he had coached and taught for 42 years, he’s in his 60’s.

I found an article from Oct. 2018 on his 300th total victory in his career and he was listed at 62 then, so we would be 63 or 64 now.

He was inducted into the OK Sports HOF in 2013 for his years at Edmond, Tulsa Union and Broken Arrow where he had 130 something wins between those 3 schools. He coached from 1989-2003 in OK as a HC.

He was making over $100,000 a year at Greenwood, so I wouldn't think he was getting $35,000 as an analyst like Butch Jones at Alabama although Butch Jones is still getting a lot of $$ from TN..

42 years of teaching and coaching in Arkansas means he is getting a heck of a retirement check. He most certainly has finished his 10 years of TDROP.

From an article in today's paper.

Jones, 65, is 317-74 overall as a high school head coach at four schools

Are analysts (consultants) allowed to recruit?
I thought that only coaches were allowed to do so, per NCAA rules.

This. Vest in MO & eventually draw two retirement checks. Happens all the time. Wise financial move.

Sweet avi. Koko is one of my favorites.
I had a girlfriend once that had a dog named Dakota. Somehow I spun that into Koko B Ware. From then on, she was Koko.

Could be a mistake with all the politics in AR high school ball and I'm not sure how the other coaches in the state feel about him. Lots of accusations of recruiting through the years may have some coaches and programs wanting a chance to poke him with a stick.

I have been a resident, living in the Greenwood community for some 35 years. During that time we have had some great coaches...i.e. H.B.Stewart, Ronnie Peacock, and Rick Jones.
Jones has led this program in a manner that allowed out smaller, possibly slower players to achieve success and to play at their highest potential. Rick Jones is a very high character person with a high passion to win and to do it in the right way.
He will surely be missed here but we wish him nothing but the best in this new challenge.

This^^^^

I just don't know how much good he will do though for Mizzou.  I think Arkansas having the Pittman/Odom/Briles combo trumps this hire in Columbia.  If our coaches have a good working relationship with the area HS coaches then they will keep most of what we have in Arkansas.

Although Mizzou fans are not happy with the players Odom and Company have been and will be pulling down South to Fayetteville.  They think this is retribution!  Lol

One of his best moves was getting the youth league in GW to get out of daddy ball and start the kids young learning the fundamentals and concepts they would use later on when they got to jrhs and then hs.  Ft Smith, VB, and other schools would be well served to do that in their city youth organizations, but they won't, too many daddy Saban wannabees.
