Made me sad to see Decker knocked out earlier.  Deegan is currently running 6th with 34 laps to go.

I'm not too old to feel that dirty about wanting to jump on Hailie, but if her mom is an indicator the future is bright for that girl's looks.  If I had to choose between Deegan and Decker I'd have to flip a coin (and then I'd wake up before I knew who won/lost).

Gonna make my first complaint of the year - the Clash should be run under the lights.

Anyway, the Clash starts in a little over an hour.

How well-conditioned is Jimmie Johnson?  Well, they're tracking his heart rate during the race.  Taking a warm-up lap and it's up to 88 bpm.

Chevy drivers following orders already following manufacturer orders to run together, like loyal cookie-cutter drivers.  This is why when it comes to Nascar I've come to like the Fords - they told all of their drivers to do whatever and learn as much as possible for the 500.

On the restart it went from 91 to over 100 before the backstretch.

Chevy teams had a strategy to take a second pit stop under caution to get gas and run single file to the end of the race.  Problem is that the Toyota and several Ford teams pitted under green for fuel after the restart, meaning there is no draft at all for the Chevy cars to cruise in.  Those teams are able to run full throttle now and running 1.5-2 seconds per lap.

Kurt's crew chief just said he was a lap short on fuel.  Front draft running 60-65% throttle, second pack running it wide-open.  Unless there's a caution this could turn into a Ford/Toyota shootout.

Now Logano is the only car from the fuel-saving pack still up front.  Jimmie Johnson is the next car from that pack running in 9th now.

Aaannnnndddddd...... Kyle and Logano make contact and take a spin, gathering Keselowski in the mess as well.  Logano blocking while Kyle had a huge run - Kyle goes down and clips Logano's left rear bumper.

Fuel mileage is now a non-issue.

Got the track cleaned up and then had another caution as soon as the green flag dropped.

Hamlin, Almirola, and Blaney are the ones that don't have damage.  A few others have minimal damage.

Newman (2nd car in the outside row) had tire spin, Byron behind him spun the tires and got the back end wobbling, Harvick behind them knocked Byron into Newman, or something like that.  Everyone hit everyone after that.  Not sure if it was stupid driving, a tire issue, or a track problem.  Just bizarre.

Apparently Chase Elliott made it through the wreck as well.  A Toyota, 2 Fords, and a Chevy... lovely.

There's the rest of the cars caught up in another one.  Elliott was doing his best to turn Hamlin but a blown tire took out the 11 car first.  Now 7 cars are running in a race that started with 18.

Chase Elliott abuses the rear of Kyle Larson's car on the restart and they both wreck in turns 3-4 on the first lap of the restart.  This one was a lot like the Logano/Kyle wreck earlier... lots of blocking.

Now 6 cars restarting G-W-C attempt #3.

Denny Hamlin a lap down with damage pushed Erik Jones with even more damage to the win.  Austin Dillon had the cleanest car but kept getting shuffled to the middle line.  Newman and Larson made some great moves, but the 8 wheels of Jones/Hamlin were still the best.

This car package has about 100 more horsepower than last year's - made for some great small-pack racing at the end.  Seriously, Jones's car is about as aerodynamic as a brick.

Man, 12 yrs ago NASCAR had a bunch of drivers with actual personalities and watching interviews at practice or pre and post race was almost as good as the race itself. Bunch of boring little robots now

Can't argue with that.  Harvick, Kyle, and Kurt are about the only ones that I listen to an interview from.  Keselowski always just sounds like he's whining.  At least Logano outgrew the robot mold and developed somewhat of his own unique personality.

So if you were going to do a futures bet on who wins this years championship who would it be.. Now consider the risk/reward and possibly playing multiple drivers with higher odds.  Like say Lagano, Elliott, and Keslowski instead of the 3 favorites.  Chase by the way is higher than +1000 at Oaklawn

NASCAR Cup Series Odds
Driver
Odds at MyBookie

Kyle Busch +400
Martin Truex Jr +450
Kevin Harwick +450
Denny Hamlin +500
Joey Logano +800
Brad Keselowski +800
Chase Elliott +1000
Kyle Larson +1000
Ryan Blaney +1400
Erik Jones +1600
Clint Bowyer +2500

I hate it but I'd have to go with Kyle.  The Toyotas are too consistent.  Chevy is trying a new body again and I think Ford made some front end changes that may take time for Penske and SHR to fine-tune.  Gibbs is getting all of TRD's support and it's paying off.

Keep reading that everyone is butt hurt that Suarez didn't make it in, why? He had one of the best rides last year and couldn't do anything with it, what makes people think he can do something with this under funded team. Rant over.

On that note I like watching the trucks and to some extent Xfinity but don't get into what teams have funding, good equipment, ect...  So does anyone know what kind of equipment and backing Decker and Deegan have ? I would love to see a couple ladies have quality racing careers with some wins in my lifetime and it would be nice if they were easy on the eyes.

Natalie is running for Niece Motorsports in the truck series - switched herself over to a Chevy for the season, finally.  Currently she's running 18th.  Her teammates are running:

Ty Majewski - 32 (out)
Ross Chastain - 17

Niece Motorsports is in its 4th year and (Ross Chastain) finished 2nd last year in the points in the truck series.  I'd say she's in pretty good equipment.

Hailie is running ARCA for DGR-Crosley, the team that Natalie Decker ran trucks, K&N, and ARCA for last year.  Hailie Deegan is doing the full ARCA schedule and running for Rookie of the Year this year.

DGR's truck, driven by Tanner Gray is currently running 11th.

Gonna be a GWC finish in the truck race.  These things have been squirrelly all night and they have been at the end of a run on old tires - some of the trucks even took fuel only on their last stop to keep track position.

Decker was running 24th.  I missed a chunk of the race so not sure if she has damage or was saving fuel or what but half the field was running behind the lead pack.  If she made it through this wreck it will help the final finish position on a meh race.

Now Decker is in 9th after the big wreck and a few pit stops.  Looks like she's going to run the GWC on old tires too.

Kyle Busch once said he drove with his ass.  I would love to see her give a seminar on how her ass helps her drive.

Stayed on the bottom line and moved up on the last lap, great 5th place finish for Decker.  Top finish for Niece Motorsports as well once it all played out.  And.... best finish ever for a female driver in the series.

That race had an awesome ending.

I'm not sure I could handle three finishes like last night's in one weekend.

Cole Custer and Christopher Bell are making Daytona 500 debuts this year.  Bell in a Toyota and Custer in a SHR Ford.  Will be interesting see how they do, along with Tyler Reddick who was in the 500 last year but is running for Rookie of the Year this season.

Keselowski and Bowyer in the booth today has been interesting.

Restarting with 7 laps to go.  7 of the top 10 drivers have never won an Xfinity race.

And they didn't make a full lap.  Big one in the Xfinity race.

Another crash but they let them race.  Probably a wise decision as they would just crash again if they had a restart.

FS1's prerace show is great this year.  Coming to Johnson's last Daytona 500 (maybe?), Gordon and MacMurray both say Jimmie is the best driver they've ever seen.

Thoughts?  Is he?  Is it nostalgia that makes you want to say no?
