A-State Football Notes
« on: January 11, 2020, 12:16:49 pm »

Beside losing their outstanding CB Jerry Jacobs (who has committed to play for the Razorback) they may also be losing their starting middle linebacker Tajhea Chambers (6-2, 240) .

Chambers, who had one more year to play and had a very good 2019 season,  suffered his second ACL injury late in the season and it looks like he will give up the game. Big Loss.

Reserve offensive tackle Jax Gasaway (6-7, 265) has transferred to OBU.

Starting QB Logan Bonner, and NG Forest Merrill are fully recovered from their season ending injuries and are ready for spring ball.

No word on the status of backup  NGs Thomas Toki or Hunter Morton (both suffered season ending injuries) or CB Jevon Jones
, who missed all of 2019.

No word on the status of CB Nathan Page (6, 175), who replaced Jacobs when he was injured. Page, who played very well , was suspended as a result of an off the field issue.

As far as their recruiting there have been no commitments made public , and nothing about players that they may be recruiting, or that have visits scheduled, since the early signing date.

Probably a result of Blake Anderson' still being in the mix for the Baylor job.

Not sure what the chances are that Anderson will get the job (AStateNation thinks it is 50/50 at best) , but from reading their message boards he is not at the top of the list of candidates as far as their fan base but that may not matter. He apparently has some big money backers, and like Missouri's AD, Baylor's  AD apparently likes him.

Unlike Missouri apparently the Baylor AD Mack Rhodes has a ten year contract and  has a lot more leeway in saying who gets the job. Most feel the decision will be made by next Friday at the latest.

It has been reported that A-State offered Blake Anderson a two year extension of his contract prior to the start of the season, but it included little, if any increase in salary.

There is no indication Anderson has signed it, and he apparently did not earn an automatic extension this year, leaving him with only one year left on his contract.

There has been some speculation that Anderson may not rule out taking a P5 OC position if they cannot come to an agreement.

A-State did get a commit from a punter yesterday, Ryan Hanson: https://kohlskicking.com/player-profiles/ryan-hanson

Aside from the fact that they had a critical needed for a punter, and he is a good one, his commitment at least shows some recruiting is going on as they head into a critical signing date as they look for some immediate help for 2020, with Blake Anderson's future still up in the air.

Think most feel Baylor is close to pulling the trigger on their new HC, and it may happen as early as today or tomorrow.

Is worth noting that like many coaching staffs they are also having to hang on to some key players that could end-up in the transfer portal if Anderson leaves and maybe even if he does not, because these players already know they will pickup P5 offers from some top schools.
