How long does it take to turn a program around?
« on: December 02, 2019, 07:30:20 pm »

I do plumb reckon, nothing has been more poot-shoot truer since the AIM-9 Sidewinder than, getting the right coach before the early signing period not only changes the odds significantly in one's favor, but will significantly shorten the 60's timeline ordinarily ascribed to any average opinion regarding the question of "how long does it take to turn around a program".

Add to that today's rage called the transfer portal. l like the thought of whispering in J Plumlee's ear how his future lies a lil more northwest from his present morass. That portal is quicker than the old tried and miss Juco route, all to say too little of keeping those who chose to be a Razorback because it was dream since childhood. These days the right coach, with the right staff, has greater ability to turnaround a program quicker than ever before.

So many players from so many teams. Fields goes from Georgia to Ohio, Burrows goes from Ohio to Louisiana, Hurts goes from Aladambama to Oklastinkinhoma, multiply by other programs going through what we've been through and you get the picture.

Offenses and defenses in football, like war, change all the time, but a portal can time warp a down football team years beyond the ordinary rebuild.

Two weeks...
I can see J Sexton as a Shirk brother, but if the Money Pit we've dug ourselves in taught us anything its we've been wrong before, and timelines vary.

edit to add I dig the reference.

It'll take exactly 17 months, 3 weeks and 4 days. Can't tell you how I know that. Well I could, but then I'd have to have my buddy Frank Castle pay you a visit...

Any hire typically needs 3 years to see an upward tick.  Heard DJ Williams talk about players and buying into Petrino.  It took a year, but Petrino got them convinced.  Obviously, there was a toxicity in the Morris regime, that became obvious to the PTB, the players were never going to buy what he was selling.  The
lack of improvement from year 1 to year 2 showed that.  Yes, Bielema had the talent level down, but not to the point that you lose to teams like San Jose State
and Western Kentucky.  This team had the talent to beat Ole Miss this year, but not the coaching.

Before you can turn anything around you must first stop going in the wrong direction.
We did that 3 weeks ago.
So it is not how long it takes to turn it around, but how long before we began moving in the right direction.
That can begin on day one. One slow, careful step at a time.
Hopefully the new coach will began that forward walk in the right direction on the first day and the team will follow.

Obviously, there was ineptness by the morris regime that became obvious when u can't win a single conf. game after nearly 2 yrs or getting blown out by mid majors, take your pick.

After some thought on this question... it depends on the amount of money the U of A has to spend.. will thay get a mule or a horse for a coach.

That depends on the fans. Right now the fans want a horse. That takes spending big money.

THINK ABOUT THIS QUESTION.
