Wap, Iíve been several times and have lots of suggestions. Itís gonna be a couple of days before I can type it all up.

This is gonna sound really stupid, so donít be offended. What are your favorite types of wine?

Also, definitely stay in the little town of Healdsburg. There are several options around the town square.

Not stupid at all! That's the reason we're leaning towards Sonoma instead of Napa (from my research so far). Hate the sweet desert wines, and not a huge fan of super dry stuff (Cab's). Love Pinot Noir and similar types, and from what I've read, Sonoma is the place for those. Is that true?

Yes, Sonoma, is Pinot noir, and Chardonnay, country. Itís cooler than Napa, so those grapes grow well there and not in Napa. A lot of the time when I ask someone what kind of wine they like, the answer is ďredĒ.  That obviously doesnít help when deciding where to go. You had the right answer!!

Healdsburg has a neat town square park and is definitely where you want to be. There are a number of small hotels within walking distance. If you like b&bís, look at The Hayden St Inn.

Iím traveling and only have my phone. When I get back I will give you some great restaurant suggestions, wineries to go to and I even have a driver I know out there that will take you around and make your appointments for you. Iím a member of several wine clubs there and get shipments from them 2-3 times a year. Pinots from the Russian River Valley are the best Iíve ever tasted. That is a region within Sonoma County.

Wap, I had something pop in my head a bit ago that felt like we had communicated in the past. I finally remember where. It was in an old golf thread back in 16. You are friends with Matt Hinton. Iím a 25+ year member where he works. You wanted someone to slap him really hard!

Haha. Yep! We worked together at Valley View years back. And yes, you should slap him every chance you get.

Watch out for fires.  Seriously, might want to check on the fire situation before you make any plans you can't change.

Oh, and if you go, don't miss the "J" and Simi wineries.  Two cool wineries with top notch rotten grape juice.

Quick point, be sure to check ahead of time on fire conditions and damages from last couple years. Nothing worse than going on vacation and having your power shut off.

OK Wap, I"m back..... first some questions for you.

When do you intend to go? (month) Fires are certainly a concern, but tend to be in the fall.

I think you are in the KC area, aren't you? Are you planning on flying non-stop to the bay area, or connecting?

What things are you certain you want to do? Or, is everything up in the air?

I suggested Healdsburg for the town to stay in, but is there another one you wanted?

Are you wanting to drive it all yourself? Or, have a driver?

Are you wanting to have appointments, or just drop ins?

Could you get me a few quotes, and book it for May?

Reminds me of the time Jed Clampett rode in a limo and the driver asked him at the end of the ride, "Hey, how 'bout a little tip?"  Jed replied, "Oh, right...  Plant your corn early this year."

Will probably have to go in June due to work/childcare. We'll be flying from KC, and really just want to eat good, drink good, and relax. Open to just about anything at this point, and I'm more of a drop in guy vs. making reservations all over the place.

Alright Wap, here goesÖ.. June is a great month to go! Do yourself a favor and get your hotel reservations now. You can always cancel if you need to. You will want to rent a car also.

If you are flying non-stop, and have a choice, go into Oakland instead of San Fran. Itís an easier drive. I sometimes tack a couple of days onto my trip and stay in San Fran though. Itís my 2nd favorite city to NYC. If you are going to have a connecting flight, fly into Santa Rosa. Itís only 15 minutes from Healdsburg whereas you are looking at a minimum of 1.5 hours from the other two places. American has recently added nonstop service from DFW.

As for places to stay in Healdsburg. I can think of four hotels and one B&B Iíd stay at. Iíve been in all of them.

H2 https://h2hotel.com/
Hotel Healdsburg  https://hotelhealdsburg.com/ (sister property of the H2)
Hotel Les Mars  https://www.hotellesmars.com/
Hotel Trio  https://www.hoteltrio.com/ (new Marriott property, but it is a 5-10 min walk to the square
Haydon Street Inn (B&B) https://haydon.com/  (the owner John was the executive chef at Churchill Downs in Louisville before moving to Healdsburg)

Dining: Healdsburg is a small, quaint, little town but has some dynamite restaurants. Iíll list four of my favorites.

Valette https://www.valettehealdsburg.com/ (Michelin starred)
Baci  http://bacicafeandwinebar.com
Campo Fina  http://www.campofina.com
Bravas  https://starkrestaurants.com

Wineries / tastings: The Healdsburg town square area has many tasting rooms right there within walking distance. My favorites are LaCrema, Siduri and Hartford. These are just tasting rooms though and not the winery itself. My favorite wineries to go to are the small, boutique type. Unfortunately, you will need to make appointments for them. Iíll list some of my favorites just in case you want to give them a try. The larger wineries are where you will have better luck just walking up. Also, you typically have to pay for your flight tastings. SHARE your flights with your wife. If you each drink full flights, you will be crawling by the end of the day. I wouldnít do more than four wineries in a day either. Three would be even better.

Inman Family Wine https://www.inmanfamilywines.com/  (appt only) Kathleen makes a great Rose as well as Pinot
Arista https://www.aristawinery.com/
Emeritus http://www.emeritusvineyards.com/
Benovia  https://www.benoviawinery.com/
Freeman https://www.freemanwinery.com/ (appt only, has a neat cave experience)
MacRostie  https://macrostiewinery.com/  (Probably big enough to do a drop in)
Lynmar   https://lynmarestate.com/  (Probably big enough to do a drop in and has beautiful gardens)
J Winery   (JRab mentioned this one already. Probably big enough to do a drop in)

Check these things out and let me know if you have any other questions.
