Logically, if it were Leech he would have been announced. His season is over.  HY has been working this for awhile. It must be a coach in a conference championship game. Norvell, Clark or Kiffin. I’m betting Kiffin.

I read someone's statement in a post over on another board that Leach's very wide offensive line splits would be a disaster in the SEC.

There are a lot of worrisome aspects regarding Leach.

Passes the ball too much
Defense is mediocre
Recruiting is not great
Very wide offensive line splits
Gotta love these “won’t work in the SEC” guys.

What, exactly, makes the SEC so special? Why has Leach’s system worked in the Big XII and the PAC 12 but it won’t work in the SEC? I mean sure, Alabama and LSU are two of the top teams in the nation but how exactly do we plan on beating them? We haven’t beat Bama since 2006 or in other words since Saban has been there. Not even when Petrino was 10-3 and 11-2.

Leach may never beat Bama if he comes here but that’s not exclusive to him...nobody here is beating Bama at Arkansas as long as Saban is there. But you’re telling me Leach’s system is successfull in the PAC 12 and Big XII but won’t be successful against Ole Miss? Mississippi State? Mizzou? Auburn? Texas A&M? South Carolina? Why? If you’re going to make such an assertion you’re going to need to do better than “iT’S tHe SEc!!!” because without concrete, tangible evidence to support that assertion you’re just blowing smoke out your ass.

Gotta love these “won’t work in the SEC” guys.

It's insane.

How many coaches got their start in the SEC, stayed in the SEC, then got head coaching gigs in the SEC, then used systems ONLY DEVELOPED in the SEC?

There's such a level of arrogance involved in it.

It will “work”, just not well enough.  He doesn’t recruit well or play defense well.  Sure, he may get back to winning in the 6-6 or 7-5 type way but he will never sniff Atlanta without playing high level defense and recruiting far better than he ever has.  He won’t be a Morris type disaster, but he would wind up being a big and costly disappointment by the time it was over.  Honestly, I would expect a Bielema type record progression from him.  Seems like it’s getting somewhere but losses would just pile up and we would be looking at one 8-5 season as a high water mark based upon what he has done in conferences where there are rarely more than 2 or 3 good teams versus the 6-8 the SEC usually has.

He doesn't "play defense well" or "recruit well" because when you're at small schools, you can't get enough blue chippers there.

At Arkansas, he'd have access to resources and facilities he's never had.

Sure, he may get back to winning in the 6-6 or 7-5 type way but he will never sniff Atlanta without playing high level defense and recruiting far better than he ever has.

Bama's defense has been awful this year and they were one game from Atlanta.

All of our best Hog teams in the last 30 years were heavy offense teams, because a couple of really great offensive players in key spots can crush opposing teams, but to play good defense you need a whole lot more of those guys.

He won’t be a Morris type disaster, but he would wind up being a big and costly disappointment by the time it was over.

He's never been a disappointment at any school he's been at as a head coach. There's no evidence for this.

The past 3 years (excluding this year) he's had a pretty good defense at Washington St.
Spend the money to get a top DC and I figure Leach's system would be very successful in the SEC.
Schools have to pay big $$$ for top coordinators.

The RPO wasn't going to work in the SEC either, but now every team is using it. Leach's offense would work just fine here. Arkansas is the Perfect place for the pirate.

"Yeah, I'm a high school QB who thinks he has a future but I don't want to play for Leach, who has has six or seven guys lead the nation in passing and just turned a graduate assistant into an NFL starter in one year.  He's too quirky."
And you are one of thousands of high school QB's in America.  Many would love to play for leach.  Quirky or not.
So who would you like to play for?

Arkansas needs something to be different from everyone else.  Beliema tried to be Bama.  Morris tried to Clemson.  We need someone to come establish an Arkansas identity

The RPO works all the time in the SEC.  It just isn't the only thing being done in college football.  And not the only thing that doesn't work every single time its run.  But it works, and we see it work.  It is not as effective as it was a few years back because defenses have developed ways to more adequately defend it.  Defense is always a few years behind new offensive concepts.

Leach's Air Raid would put up points, and his defense would surrender a ton of points. If you like 4 hours games and losing 65-49, he's your guy. You will win some of those but you'll lose just as many. It's extremely hard to play defense when your offense is prone to big plays and/or 3 and outs. A good air raid is prone to one, a bad air raid is prone to the other.

With every coach you will win some and lose some.  Duh.  Leach has been consistent for 18 years in 2 power 5 conferences.  No secrets, no surprises, just consistency in wins and bowl games.  He's the safest hire on the board.

Butch Davis is the safest hire. Arkansas doesn't need a safe hire. They need a Spurrier type.

And even Spurrier and Lou Holtz couldn't win Championships at South Carolina.
They are both fantastic coaches (2 of the best ever in college football) - but at SC they couldn't replicate what they had done at Florida and Notre Dame.

Yet - many on here expect Leach to be able to win Championships at Texas Tech and Washington St.

To the posters saying Leach would of already been hired if he was the choice. Lets put it this way, he may not be #1 on HY list but he's top 3 just like EM was in basektball. You'll soon see HY's twitter feed with the offer sheet in front of him just like he did with Muss. Leach is the obvious choice and I can't be more thrilled.

I don't have any idea how this will play out. But what if, just what if Norvell goes to Florida State and Kiffin decides that Ole Miss is a better opportunity than Arkansas? Who would Yurachek look to next? Harsin or Leach, or someone else that hasn't been mentioned?

I'd be fine with either of those if we lose on Kiffin and Norvell. We could do a lot worse.
