i have good reasons. . .
« on: October 16, 2019, 01:08:50 pm »

for asking this question.

what realistic pressure if any does the SEC place upon a program like ours under the present circumstances?

i had a quick convo with someone way, way up the chain. therein it was mentioned that the SEC is getting tired of Arkansas producing so little [i'm assuming out of conference].

our time was short so i couldn't inquire.

it was mentioned that vandy is tolerated because of academics.

so i'm curious: is it realistic to think that the SEC is taking notes and keeping an eye on the tab?

Who will they replace Arkansas with?

I don't think Razorbacks will be getting slaughtered by SEC anytime soon.

We were invited because of basketball. As long as we get it and keep baseball rolling sec can shove it.

That’s comical, but wouldn’t surprise me. Let’s turn a blind eye to the cheating, NCAA violations, and FBI investigations happening at other schools  (football and basketball) and worry about our record.

Maybe the inference was, “why in the hell aren’t you guys cheating to keep up with everyone else?”

The SEC won’t take any action against Arkansas for its embarrassingly bad football team - they know Chad Morris won’t be here much longer.

IF the SEC is thinking along this line - which wouldn't surprise me in the least, considering our market footprint is among the smallest of the conference, and our academic performance is in the lower quarter - it might be that the conference is either looking at options to expand again, or is quietly courting one or more programs about future membership. If the potential future member(s) bring with them stronger academics, a higher or more well respected program profile, or most importantly a larger market for revenue, I could absolutely see the conference voting us out of membership.

What a crazy turn of events that would be. Would be like winning the lottery for which ever school got picked.

Basketball hasn’t been good in quite some time.

We were a premier basketball program when the invitation went out.  Kentucky ruled the roost in this conference and we came in just as passionate, just as good and with a killer attitude.

Or a program killer if they can't keep pace.
The jury is still out on Texas A&M - what may keep them safe is market share and academics ... and a VERY deep trust fund. That, baseball, and academics is what keeps Vandy on board.

Clemson has about as much chance coming to the SEC as OU does.  Those teams are set up perfectly to be in the NC hunt every year and still make comparable revenue.  Why would they want to jeopardize that by joining the toughest football conference in the country?

One reason only - financials. Oklahoma has previously stated they have no interest in SEC membership because of academics conference wide. Bob Stoops, who many want to lead the Razorbacks, has said as much. Clemson would only want in if their perpetual domination of the ACC begins to affect their perception to the selection committee. Otherwise, staying where they are is the safe bet - although, they have had recent success against the bigger names of the SEC. I'm sure South Carolina would LOVE to have Clemson in the same division of the same conference.

Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, and Kentucky have an agreement to block any other instate schools in those states from joining the SEC.

Doubt it.  South Carolina had a few dismal seasons several years back, Tennessee is struggling.  We need to focus on Arkansas and not worry about anything beyond the state line.

How, why could would the SEC kick out the team that has won more overall
Conference and National Championships since 1992? than anyone else. 143
National & Conference titles by our track and field go a long way

Alabama, Auburn, LSU, and Georgia probably don't want Clemson in the SEC.

Since 2012, Swinney and Venables have been schooling the SEC.

Those SEC football programs know how well run and how well coached Clemson is, and those SEC schools probably don't want a probable regular season loss to Clemson on their schedule.

Swinney and Venables have a well oiled machine running over there right now.

This is forum BS unless you can post evidence (person, etc).  Arkansas is successful in almost every sport except for football.  We are under performing in BB but not an embarrassment. We will never compete at a consistently high level in football unless Arkansas high school football improves. TAM joining the SEC hurt our TexASS recruiting.

Despite its struggles this decade and it’s relatively small market, Arkansas is still a more valuable (financially) program than multiple other SEC football teams. There is absolutely ZERO chance the SEC, or any conference, is going to kick out one of the 16 most valuable football programs in the country, no matter how far the football program falls.

South Carolina, Mizzou, Texas A&M

You really think there’s a snowball’s chance Clemson would leave that cushy ACC schedule to play in the SEC? No way.

You don’t realign conferences every time somebody cans their AD, gets played by the Malzahns, and hires an amateur bozo with a losing record who proceeds to stink the joint up for a couple of years.

You hold your nose and remind yourself that this too will pass.
