Scrimmage Games
« on: August 13, 2019, 09:53:11 am »

Just saw on Twitter that OU is at Arkansas on 9/21. Not sure if this one or our other scrimmage has been officially announced yet. More baseball in just over a month! WPS

It's not been officially announced (yet) but Kendall is as reliable as it gets:

Another really interesting scrimmage —

Some thoughts:

- Fall ball starts on September 6th.

- We were suppose to scrimmage Oklahoma at Norman last year but weather caused the cancellation.

- Coach DVH also said that he'd prefer not to scrimmage teams we play during the season (we play Oklahoma February 28th in the Shriner's Classic)... but there are some limitations due to mileage and school.

- September 21st is on a Saturday - which is a football gameday (vs. San Jose State).  The time isn't set for that game but it will be interesting to see how we approach scheduling these events = parking at Baum etc.

- Our scrimmage at Baum last season vs. Wichita State was on a Friday night before the football game vs Alabama.

Well with it being San Jose State so it will be an early game. It would be great if it started at 11 and the scrimmage would start at 6

Agreed.  That should be the one time we push for an 11 am start.  Get to Razorback Stadium early.  Watch us blow out the Spartans (hopefully) and then head out to Baum-Walker for some much needed baseball.

Just looked up the sooners fb schedule and they have a bye week on the 21st.  I'm not sure how well their baseball fans travel but they might make their way over here just to fill the bye week blues.

Makes me wonder if we will try and schedule a road game on October 5th (our first bye).  It would fall within the fall ball 45 day schedule.

Excited to get it going.

Just a little more info about what DVH looks for in a scrimmage game from an earlier interview:

Fall ball

Arkansas’ 45-day fall practice period will begin Friday, Sept. 6 at Baum-Walker Stadium.

Like last year, the fall season will include two exhibition games against Division I teams. Van Horn said the exhibition games have not been finalized, but mentioned Oklahoma and Oklahoma State as possible fall opponents.

Van Horn said he would like to play one exhibition game at home and one on the road. A number of factors play into scheduling exhibition opponents, Van Horn said, including distance and on-campus football games.

“Ideally we would like to play on a Friday and have a football game on a Saturday, but it’s a matter of getting someone over here and not missing school,” Van Horn said.

So Kendell can confirm it but a UA spokesperson can’t and it isn’t official announced?

Probably because the exhibition game time isn't determined because we don't know the game time on the San Jose State game yet.  DVH isn't going to want to compete against the football time slot.  The only thing the U of A could reasonably confirm is that we are playing an exhibition game and the opponent - not really a press release news event.  Wait until you can have all the details in hand.

Kendall might have received the info from an Oklahoma SID.

Kendall is pretty reliable but the only "confirmation" he has provided is relaying info on twitter.  Also - the article states:

Quote
A time has not been announced for the scrimmage, and might not be until a kickoff time is announced for the Razorbacks' home football game that day against San Jose State.

Our SID might not want to put out a scrimmage announcement until all the details are squared away.  An official announcement without a time would be met with countless complaints about it overlapping with the football game and anything else people can find to complain about.
