As a matter of opinion -- or perhaps statistical fact -- is better ball played in the Cape or on the West Coast? Or is it even? Or, does it even matter and there is good talent in all those places?

For fans of baseball movies, "Summer Catch" is a Bull Durham-esque film about the Cape Cod League staring Freddie Prinze Jr. Its not on the same level as Bull Durham, but its got a lot of laughs in it.

Halfway thought Goodheart would stay in Fay and hit the weight room.  Although he might need some live action in the field, and I guess more ABs are never a bad thing.

If we play deep enough into June it might change some plans in suppose.

Hey we're still talking about summer ball in here. If Jessica Biel just happens to be relevant to the Cape league it's not my fault. And you won't hear me complaining about it.  8)

Zack Gregory is batting 333 with a homer and 6 stolen bases.  This the same team Nesbit played for last summer and got over 250 ABs.  He's been playing a lot of short stop.

Caleb Denny is batting 316 with a couple of homers.  He's been playing in the outfield

Boulware played his first Cape Cod League last night and was 0-4 with 2 Ks from the leadoff spot for the Whitecaps. They lost 3-1. They were rained out tonight.

Evan Taylor is pitching for the Anchorage Bucs in the Alaska League.  He's pitched 6 innings without giving up a run including one start in which he went 5 gave up 1 hit and K'd 7.  Liam Henry also pitches for the Bucs and has a 5 inning start in which he gave up a run on 3 hits and K'd 5.

Does DVH help line up the summer ball assignments?  Predictions on who will come out of summer ball ready to contribute in 2020?  I'm saying Evan Taylor and maybe Liam Henry.

If it's not a pitcher or MAYBE someone playing 1st, they will just be adding depth. There just isn't many holes to fill next year.

Saw this on Twitter today:

Ryan Folkes
@RyanFolkes

#SummerHogs | Last night, in his 21st game of the summer, Zack Gregory's 20 game on-base streak with the @bismarcklarks came to an end. Yes, he had reached safely in EVERY single game.

Tonight he responded with his 9th multi-hit game of the summer.

@RazorbackBSB | @_Gregory21

So I went and looked at the Bismark Larks website, and Zach Gregory is triple slashing .372/.561/.533 for a 1.094 OPS through 75 AB, 107 PA.

Has the old Jayhawk summer league gone by the wayside? Back in the day, (70s-80's) it and Alaska were where guys wanted to go. Seems like the Cape was just starting to come into play.

Guys like Roger Clemons, Will Clark, Rafael Palmero all played at Hutchison, KS. Ozzie Smith played in Clarinda Iowa as part of that league. Liberal, KS was always tough.

From poking around on the Internet, it appears that the Jayhawk League is no more, although some of its teams moved to a different league.  Here's the last post (from September 2018) on the league's Facebook page:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TOP JAYHAWK LEAGUE TEAMS TO JOIN KANSAS COLLEGIATE LEAGUE BASEBALL

September 25, 2018: Pursuant to a press release issued this afternoon, The Hays Larks, Liberal Bee Jays and Dodge City A’s will be joining Kansas Collegiate League Baseball (KCLB). The departure of Derby, Great Bend, El Dorado and Haysville from the Jayhawk League in August left us with only 4 members. Since that time, Hays, Liberal and Dodge City have been working hard behind the scenes to find a way to stay together, play each other, and still be able to compete at the National Baseball Congress World Series.

After much discussion and exploration, the best option to accomplish those goals was to join the KCLB. The Jayhawk League had a long, storied and successful run, and while we worked hard to try and keep the Jayhawk League independent by adding additional teams, we regret that option did not work out. However, the KCLB consists of quality teams with NBC experience and success and by adding our own extensive experience and success, the combination creates the best summer collegiate baseball league in Kansas.

I remember the Alaska teams being good well into the 90s.

They closed the Jayhawk League and tore down Lawrence-Dumont. My childhood is crumbling. At least they saved the drive in.

Thanks Wisco! I certainly didn't mean to make you, or anyone else, do any research.

I can see why that league would have a tough go these days. Tough to compete geographically IMHO. I know I'd rather have played in the Cape or California.

Boulware is having a tough start to his Cape Cod season.  He is hitting 0.53(1-19) which is lowest by far of the regulars. His team dropped its first 3 games, won its next 6 and tied yesterday and is in first place in the standings.

Yeah, I'm hoping it is just a case of him not having much game action (outside of intra-squad) over the last year.  Will be interesting to monitor over the next 6 weeks.

oh okay that's where the New Orleans Baby Cakes are headed. NO ONE goes to the games here. You can sit right behind home plate for 5$. When Brian Anderson was on the team I'd go watch him. I yelled GO HOGS and he gave me a thumbs up haha
