I hate North Hills, but mainly because it's not very drunk friendly.  I got lost once.

Canít be any worse than JCC. Every year there will be some players at the high school Hurricane Classic that will play the wrong hole. A couple of holes basically share the same tee boxes(big), and it appears you would aim straight on one, when the hole youíre playing is to the left of the tree line. It usually some girls who have never played there before, it really backs up play.

It was at the intersection of 5 green, 6 and 9 tee box etc. We were not sober. We stopped keeping score and just put check marks after each hole played. Then he had a putter stolen by Three 6 Mafia around 12.

I could see the benefit of a round only taking 2.5 hours and you can't get out until 4-4:30pm. With that being the case you can still get in a full 18 holes before sundown that you might not be able to on a par 72 course.
Had one of these 'after-work' rounds yesterday at War Mem.
Masters Week must be inspiring me.
Started out with FIVE consecutive bogeys.
Found my swing on Tee Box #6. (yes, I sadly have to reinvent the wheel every round, it seems)
Then went par, birdie, par, par, birdie, birdie, birdie.

Ended the day with a 66.
I also birdied two of the toughest holes out there: #11 and #18.
I'm excited but realistic because the next round probably won't be anything like that.

Started at 5:10, ended at 7:20

Grass has gotten amazingly green in one short week.

Golf season is here!

Grew up playing Hindman. Back when it first opened. Typical round was spent trying to get through the briars to find your ball. Come out bloodied and covered in chiggers and ticks. Itís pretty nice now for a municipal course

Played the old Western Hills Country Club off of Asher a couple times before it shut down a few hundred years ago and had that kind of situation. Anyone remember that old nine hole course near it called Rock Creek? You actually had to tee off of those old rubber and metal door mats you used to see outside of schools and businesses. It was a course that made Pine Valley in North Pulaski look like a real Country Club quality course. lol

I am pretty sure the First Tee course ended up utilizing a couple of holes from each of those other two.

First Tee used just what was left of Rock Creek, plus more land east of it that was cleared for the clubhouse and driving range. What was once Western Hills is still over there. Apartments were dreamed up to fill a lot of that space but the plan fell through. They've done some lumber removal on that tract, but the remnants of a golf course are still there. Somebody had proposed to the City Board that LR buy that Western Hills land and expand First Tee further into that tract, and in the same move do away with War Memorial, putting Hindman and First Tee as a large public golf area within mile of each other, but that never went anywhere, and First Tee has enough trouble making it with the size it currently is.

As an avid golfer and a frequent visitor to War Memorial, it pains me to say it, but I've always felt the best compromise is for the golf course to cede the land on the east side of Fair Park to the city, zoo, whomever.

It makes sense. No more having to cross that busy road with the non-stop traffic.

War Mem could reconfigure some holes to keep 18 if they wanted.

Just do a really good nine hole at war instead of trying to keep 18 alive.

Agreed. Played a muni near Orlando called Winter Park 9. It would be a great blue print for what to do with War Memorial. I think if the city would go for something like this the public would be more than OK with it. Video for anybody interested

They should put a fence all the way around War Memorial and let the zoo animals next door graze there.

Not only are you wrong, for shame.  If all you got to build up Cabot is to put down DQ?  Case closed = Cabot sucks.

To me DQ = Dairy Queen
DeQ = Dequeen?

Cabot = Cow-butt
Conway = Corn-way

I am sure your memory on who the girl was is correct.  Both her and her mom thought much less of me when we played golf together, which I thought was comical.

Yep, back to normal.

After a stellar 66 (par 64) last week, it was back to 82 (par 72) for most recent round.

Looking forward to this weekend. 70s and 80s forecast.

Dont knock Hickory Creek. $20 for 3500 yds of championship golf and $1 sausage biscuits

The kids on the Junior PGA used to refer to Hickory Creek as the TPC at Horsefly Ridge.
