Bring me the best coach available..you know who it is...
« on: April 05, 2019, 09:43:54 am »

Why is Rick Pitino not being considered seriously? I guess all that talk about competing for SEC and National Titles is just lip service. This guy will bring a minimum of one to possibly two 5 star recruits every class. He teaches fundamentals, the guy has been to Final Fours at every place he’s coached. Players want to get to the NBA and he knows what it takes to get there, that’s why players go play for Calipari and Coach K. The guy has forgot more about basketball coaching than Beard or Marshall even know. Our country is all about second chances. I saw yesterday that Sean Miller, Will Wade, and Bruce Pearl have been subpoenaed to testify later this month. I didn’t see Pitino on there. Sure he messed around on his wife, sure strippers and escorts where at a recruiting visit (he was never directly linked), sure Brian Bowens family took money from the shoe company (he has never been implicated). He does not have a show cause and even Dick Vitale thinks he got the run around and should be coaching again. Yeah he might be a horrible person but so was Adolph Rupp, Bear Bryant, Dean Smith, Denny Crum and countless others. I say sign him up and give him a 5 year deal that stipulates if the NCAA comes calling, he will be terminated once he is found guilty and we owe him nothing.

It will never happen at Arkansas, but can you imagine the collective groans over at Kentucky if we hired him? That would be worth $5M alone

Solid #3 option behind Beard and then Marshall, in my book. It'd certainly reignite our UK rivalry.

I think Pitino would come to Arkansas with something to prove, and would do all in his power to turn our program around.

The dude has a tremendous amount of respect and appreciation for the Razorback program, and Nolan Richardson's legacy. I think he'd try to do right by us if he were hired.

However, I don't know if we'd wind up in a Petrino type situation in 3-4 years or not. Can he keep himself in check morally is the question. I just don't know.

Personally, I'd rather get a younger, yet experienced winning coach that can stay awhile, and build the program to last for 20 years. Beard fits that. Marshall might. But if Pitino were the choice, I wouldn't be devastated by the hire.

Personally I could care less about him and women. That’s between him and Mrs. Pitino. Usually once you get caught, you are less likely to do it again.

I mean, wouldn't bother me. But we have this weird shift between "bible belt" and "win at all costs" that changes constantly.

One minute we're the morality police with Nutt and the next, some are begging Long to keep Petrino.

The HC in Football and Basketball represent the University and somewhat the State Of Arkansas. Rick is a disgraced slime ball and will never be considered as HC here. That's just the facts.

The other thing I like about him is that he has seen Bud Walton and Barnhill in prime rowdy fashion and has felt the brunt of it. He knows first hand what a sleeping giant we are and has great respect for our program.  Also understands the legacy that Coach Broyles would want.  We'd be instantly nationally viable.

Why is he not being considered? Because he is a vampire. We already have one old coach in Tom Penders living in a tanning bed in the bowels of barnhill. We don't need another old coach living in a coffin in Bud Walton.

Come on. It's just common sense.

It's not just cheating on his wife. From ESPN"

During his time with Louisville, the Cardinals basketball coach Rick Pitino has survived multiple scandals.
In 2010, he testified in a federal extortion trial involving Karen Sypher, who went to prison after trying to get money and gifts from Pitino in exchange for silence.
Here's what you need to know.
In 2015, the NCAA launched an investigation into a sex-for-pay scandal organized by former Louisville assistant coach Andre McGee that could force the Cardinals to vacate their 2013 national title and dozens of victories. For that, Pitino will serve a five-game suspension this season. This all came after the school, hoping to soothe the NCAA and temper the sanctions, self-imposed a 2016 NCAA tournament ban.
Despite all this, Pitino kept his job.
What was revealed Tuesday, if true, seems insurmountable.
The FBI arrested four prominent college basketball assistants from Oklahoma State, Auburn, Arizona and USC following an investigation surrounding a corruption scandal. Documents from the investigation cite an arrangement between an unnamed Louisville staffer, high-ranking Adidas official James Gatto and others to funnel $100,000 to the family of a recruit who committed to the university over the summer.

I'm shocked, literally shocked, that anyone on this site would ever suggest that the integrity (I know-dirty word) of the University of Arkansas as a place of learning (as opposed to an entertainment venue for a bunch of middle aged men- most of whom probably never attended said university) plays any part in the decision process (at least now that the carpetbagger has been run out of town on a rail).

Beyond that I suspect the so-called PsTB are not going to be onboard for hiring someone like Pitino- especially after they agreed to hire another "slime ball" a few years back and look where that ended up.

If we don't get Beard, Marshall or Donavan, they should go after Rick Pitino, no question about it.  I want a proven coach and don't care about his sex life.  With what this society allows these days, no questions even allowed to be asked, I can't believe this would even be an "issue".  And I've seen no proof of the other allegations thrown at him.

We would just be stupid not to ask.

William Fulbright? Maybe I don't know the dirt here- other than being a kind of squishy segregationist in an era when that was de rigueur for Arkansas politicians (and his sister being Tucker Carlson's grandmother) what did he do to compromise the integrity of the university? Was he "railing" waitresses too?

Please enlighten us as to the morals or lack thereof of Fulbright? I have never heard anything negative about the man other than the LBJ/Nixon lackeys who wanted every pol to blindly support the fiasco in Viet Nam.

As for Pitino? Hell effing no! Most over rated coach ever who had the talent at UK to win 5 NCs and won one, same as Tubby Smith who was reviled in KY..

Over rated coach and scumbag. All his hiring would do is bring fawning coverage from Dookey V.

He is WAY past his prime and his prime was nowhere nearly as good as it would have been in he was half the coach the media portrays him to be.

As the CIA guy in Spies Like Us said: "we're not recruiting for the boy scouts" but we don't need to be dredging the 80s for the scummiest coach we can find who is lucky not to be in Club Fed either..

You might want to check up on WF.  I think you might find some carrying on in his time in DC.  I don't remember the details but is was made public.

I have never cheated on my wife and never will, but I have been around guys...especially alpha male types...enough in my life to know what goes on with them.  I simply don't care about other people's sex lives.  I didn't like or applaud what Petrino did, I just didn't care.  What I do care about is Razorback football and I knew when he was fired we were headed for...well, exactly what we have gotten.  Disaster.

You understand that he got fired for hiring the chick he was banging over MANY more qualified applicants? The lawsuits that would have entailed would have been crazy.  It wasn’t for just having a side and lying to Long.  He just cheats on his wife and he keeps his job. Very simple to comprehend

It didn't take long for you people to shed what little dignity you had coming into this coaching search.

This is important as any other factor
