Autozone - Cali
« on: March 14, 2019, 05:36:14 pm »

Larson, Truex, Keselowski - all 6-1 odds.

Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick - both 9-2 odds.

Nascar running the big-track rules package with the more restrictive tapered spacer, and Goodyear is bringing a new right-side tire package.

This track is a "good take a nap race".

Yeah if the new "package" doesn't start delivering what they promised soon then NASCAR at minimum should go all WWF and start orchestrating confrontations like we saw last week.

It's a good thing Steve O'Donnell is on radio every Monday morning talking about how exciting the race was instead of on video. Everyone would see his head spinning around otherwise.

Maybe give Stenhouse some kind of belt and have whoever he has a run in on the track with try to take it away from him on pit road afterward.

Jimmie Johnson apparently paced the first practice.  It wasn't televised so I'll take the internet's word for that.

ADillon on the pole due to no one in the 12 making it to the line in time. Reverted to last posted time (second round).

And then Nascar blames the drivers for not getting to the line in time. I don't blame them, the package rewards drafting and the car in front was dropping down the board and no one wanted to be that car in front. So Miller states the drivers weren't smart enough to get to the line in time. Nascar wasn't smart enough to realize what the drivers would do.

It is only qualifying. Not like anyone attends or watches on TV. May as well let them do single car runs. I liked the drama myself and think it was fun to watch the past few weeks because of that. Screw the drivers though in my opinion

Oh I thought it was a hoot for sure. Drivers trying to out wait each other. Nascar got what it was asking for though with their constant package changing.

That was pretty bizarre. I actually used to watch the single car qualifying runs at least until my driver took his turn.

RE: the qualifying fiasco - official line I guess is that it's all the drivers' fault.

Miller also noted he was surprised by how drivers and teams were unable to begin a lap before time expired in the final round.

It surprised me that they weren’t smart enough to go out and actually get back to the start/finish line in time to post a time,” Miller added. “Yeah, that surprised me.”

Yep, that's Scott Miller - VP of Competition - saying the teams/drivers just weren't smart enough.  Nascar.com was more fun to read back when they allowed comments on articles.

Well it was the drivers/ crew chiefs fault. They know exactly how long it takes to leave pit road and get to the line. You would think at least one would have thought to take off at that point and get to the line first or at least in top 5

Assume that all the drivers were protesting the qualifying rules (they weren't simply because the sponsors would hate it), but statements like that don't do anything productive as far as determining what the issue really was.  He sounds like he hasn't dug into that yet.

Personally, I think they all wanted someone they could easily pass to start out front.

There is no way to do it that will make most people happy. At least NASCAR knows they have to entertain fans in order to attract people to the sport again. To Hell with the racing purists. Not enough of them to keep the sport anywhere near what it was in the late 90's and 2000's. They truly [CENSORED] up not making the all star package the package for mile and a halfs and 2 milers this year. If they had then I think those tracks would be selling the shiit out of tickets right now. I'm gonna biitch about that all year ya'll  :D :D :D

It's entertaining listening to Mikey acting like Cole Custer is one adjustment away from beating Kyle Busch today.  Is Kyle's team banned from making car adjustments?

Allegedly Rey Mysterio is driving the pace car. Of course he’s wearing a mask so we can’t be 100% certain it’s him. If he would just take the mask off.... we still wouldn’t be 100% sure.

Awful timing for Stenhouse.  After getting chippy with his spotter and crew chief under caution, he gets loose in front of a pack of cars on fresher tires and winds up spinning.  Fortunate for the field that wasn't worse.

Before the restart he said something about he was the one driving the car and he knew what he was doing.  Lesson to be learned - new tires are everything today.

Racing with fenders on big tracks is usually boring to some degree, but this is snoozerville so far.

This.  You hope that 2-3 cars are close enough to each other to race throughout the day, but that hasn't happened today.  Kyle's penalty may be the only thing keeping it exciting.  It's always been that way, but I still think this rules package makes it even worse.

Hard to believe Kurt is only on a 1-year deal to drive.  He's the only Chevy driver to record a Top-5 so far this year, and he's running 4th with 5 laps to go (finished 6th).

There's #200 for Kyle.  Acting on the radio like he never doubted a win today.

Definitely not while running Chevys.  The Chevy teams still haven't recovered from last year.  Surprising to see teams like Stewart-Haas and Penske switch to new bodies without missing a beat, but Hendrick is still struggling over a year after making a similar change.
