Few if any, the costs of natural grass are much higher than turf, especially when you have mens/womens soccer playing all spring on the same surface.

Agreed. The main reason most of the schools switched to artificial turf is some years back, it basically rained all fall destroying many High School natural grass fields and many games were being played in almost knee deep mud. I doubt any of them will switch back to natural grass.

They never had planned to scrimmage on it. The plan has always been to practice on it the last week of fall practice (Game Week).

If we had a game on Saturday, we would be playing on it, but the wet weather during both the growing season, and the installation has them waiting a week. They still have to “paint” it up, end zones, yard lines, etc, the longer they wait, the better it will look.

I was wanting to test the matrix

There were many comments about it being playable in a few days after install.

I knew that wasn't accurate- just more off season bluster .....

IMHO, it would be idiotic to do anything, other than watering, prior to the week of the game.  The full spread hasn't been down a week yet.

Why push something when you don't have to?

It's been said multiple times that it is normally playable within a few days after install. Playable =/= Best Condition.

Our guys don't need to practice on the stadium grass to be comfortable with it compared to the natural grass surface they are already practicing on.

There's no proof that it wasn't an accurate claim, you're just continuing your negative rhetoric like you have in all 14 pages of this thread.

Seeds had to sprout, it had to thicken and grow some roots. We had an unusually mild spring and really wet where they were growing it. Was practically impossible to have it down in June.

I'm not sure if anyone here remembers, but wasn't there a controversy back in the Nutt Era about which brand of mower would be used to cut the grass?  I'm drawing a blank though.

I remember when someone drove the wrong brand cart one time and someone in the athletic department jumped their case about it.

Could be trouble.
Hope they have the right cleats.
Could be running through the V
Or worse over the band.

There's a noticeable improvement.  By game time it'll be lush.  Anyone know what type of footing natural grass cleats have on artificial? Dicey? Thought out of bounds area comes into play several times a game.

yeah sounds like what I was thinking about.  Wonder if someone remembers the whole story.
Matt Shanklin was the Associate AD in charge of licensing, I believe? He's the one who gave us Popcorn Hog...

Like someone else said, at one of the games during that tumultuous 2007 season, a vendor provided a Toro golf cart, while the officially licensed provider was Kubota (or vice versa).
If I remember correctly, he blew up at someone over it in public at a tailgate or in The Gardens or something and in those days, the smallest little altercation with the Admin. was enough to catch fire on the message boards. He was already on the Darksiders $h## list because of Popcorn Hog and it seems like he was grouped into the Broyles-Chuckles-Nutt-Danny-Ladders axis of evil? Any other season or circumstance, it probably wouldn't have been noticed but for whatever reason, it was turned into an Administration vs. Darksider issue.

That's my hazy recollection. I'm sure Mike Irwin could offer much better info?
