Thin Spots
« on: February 06, 2019, 09:03:11 pm »

Forgive me, please, if this issue has been previously addressed in another thread.

In light of the summary listings of those highly-sought recruits whom we landed, - - and the ones who chose other programs, - - - where do we stand now in regard to our most obvious glaring deficiencies in premium quality player personnel depth chart positional needs?  What positions do we appear to be running the risk of being seriously thin at?    :-\

You said premium quality.  With the addition of the 26, the only positions lacking would be

Lb,  somebody posted that there are 9 lbs on the roster but it seems top notch talent is low.

I think the starters at LB will be fine Harris of course and then Poole should develop nicely as he got a lot of PT as a freshman ... But out side of those two no one has

Treylon. I have lobbied for him at receiver, but we always have options.

I think Harris and Poole are going to be really good, but we really need more quality linebackers.

Morris mentioned CB as a potential GT option.

Nick Harvey who started for Chavis at A&M a Gt from South Carolina. Played Saftey at South Carolina before getting hurt

We could use him as depth at either CB, S or nickel and he might play a lot. He knows Chavis' defense. The only question I would have is why he wouldn't have come here last year as a grad transfer from A&M..

I don't know if S is a spot we would take a GT but there is this guy from USC and he had an offer from SMU out of HS:

LBer is a glaring weakness especially with the apparent loss of Walker. Outside of Scoota, we have nobody shown to be SEC ready. Bumper is the only one that has shown the potential so far. We are going to need Parker to be as special a player as most thought or the 2 instate kids are going to have to make huge strides. Lord do not let anyone get injured at LB.

Morgan and Henry are in there, too.  And Poole will be a ton better next year.

The one dude that can't get hurt next year is Scoota.

Henry and Morgan gonna have to really step up and be good depth! Harris and Pool can't do it all for all 4 quarters. That's why it was imperative to get another guy

At this time last year we didnít have any open spots in the 85. That didnít top till after Spring. Harvey committed to SCe in May

Wonder why historically it's been hard to recruit linebackers to UA?

Morgan and Henry are in there, too.

If we want to be serious about LB depth we have to see Henry and Morgan as quality ST players and not a part of the rotation. They are not SEC LBs. They are because they are at UA. They were good depth this past year but need to be just that going forward (and good ST players).

Don't get me wrong - there is nothing wrong with being a good ST player.

Maybe but other schools in the SEC that are about the same level as Arkansas seem to fair better.

If Arkansas ever grows their own again, I'm sure we'll have a shot at landing him - if his parents raised him right...

Yep they just haven't shown that they have the ability or potential to be good SEC LB's to this point imo. Know that won't be popular, but it's the way I see it. Still going to be needing to use walk-ons and Blueshirts on this defense this year is not a good thing.

Not at all. A lot of game changing plays made there! Seth Armbrust comes to mind

Darin Davenport looked like he could have been, injuries sorta prevented him to fully show his capabilities and develop. Signed with UCA, will be rooting for him hard. But would have loved to have seen what he could have done... Another kid for FS recently that looked like he had major untapped potential, just didn't make grades. Shame, we need some dudes on the Hill NOW!

I'd like to see more 2020 LB offers.  Gotta cast a wide net.

Stepp has offered like 50 WR's already, yet we've only offered about 12 LB's.

The coaches can say one thing, but who knows what they really will do. All I'm saying is they have the option if they really need it. I'd rather see him play receiver myself.

Is it possible for Morgan and Henry to develop into SEC LB's? They both seem like great young men. Maybe if they work hard in the off season they could on strong and be part of the rotation.

I wish we could use him like he was used in high school...lol..jk... but i do with he could have his own package on defense for specific passing downs. like 5-10 plays a game..lol... he has game changing ability on both sides of the ball. And yes I know this will never happen.. but it sure would be nice..lol

OL has little talent and we added a bunch of 3*s. Not exactly a strength.

Literally like not a strength of the class but from where we were last year, and earlier in the recruiting cycle I am very pleased. I think the 2 Juco guys are day 1 starters, and I like some of the guys returning, so it may not be the best line in the league I think it will be much better. Mark my words Noah Gatlin is a player. I think there will be some real competition this year where last year there was not.

when I first saw Brady Lathamís picture I was like what the hell. After watching his tape I was very surprised. Dude leaves people face down in the dirt 10 yards downfield.
