This offers closure at QB for this class. They are at 22 now with seven spots left in class. 6 commitments  + Jalen Catalon + Lakia Henry + Christopher Russell. Seven of those 9 can be Hogs.

Good solid pickup for Arkansas.  Lots of upside and little downside. Welcome to the Hogs, Ben Hicks!

I think Russell is a Vol in the end although I would love to land him. What's the word on Sci Martin?

I agree on Russell. I think Sci Martin is third on the list of linebackers. If they get Lakia and Catalon even as it is one of the six commitments can't come then. Scholarships are very tight now. 7 Spots left

Spivey may end up a RebBearShark.

Otey may end up a Condom.

Walker might not qualify and end up in Juco.

Otis if 2 would agree to blue shirt, wouldn't all 9 be able to start class in the fall but they would have to pay the first semester before going onto scholarship?

Blue shirts get a schollie right away, but count towards the next class. If myles brooks takes his OV here then all bets are off on that happening. There are very specific rules to get a blue shirt under.

Probably not fair to speculate on that. I mean they have some kids taking other visits. I do know they like Dante a lot. He is a very good pass rusher. Just too early to speculate on what they would do if they got the two plus ones committed.

If they would agree to that, but I don't think that will be the case. I do think Hogs get a LB, probably Lakia and Catalon and then get five of the six commitments. If Spivey didn't come I could see Hogs still trying to find another RB. Too many injuries can happen at that position to not add one in this class.

Hogs sent the offensive coaches all down there to see him. I still think Hogs get him, but Ole Miss is a factor. If they are taking other visits then I won't say someone is a solid lock. I do think Hogs will add a RB in this class. I think it will be Spivey, if not I think they explore their options there. I don't know who is next on the list but the picture would be very clear pretty fast because not long til Feb. 6

What a nice problem to have though.  After so many poor to okay recruiting years, it’s nice to have to consider turning away players we would have been excited about getting in the past.  It’s definitely a new day.

So is Otey still shaky on his commit to us or what? He and Spivey are the two who seem most likely to defect now that M. Brooks seems to be still in the fold. At least we'll know something on Catalon by Friday, that will clear some questions up about the class overall.

Well played by CM on this QB class.
Hicks as the starter/mentor and KJ as the likely future.

WPS! I have liked what I have seen of Ben in his games vs. Houston etc..  The all time leading passer at SMU (9,000 yards), demands some respect.  He is cool in the pocket with a quick release. I think this is a great addition.

Well with Hicks and the rest of the class of recruits we will see pretty quickly how long it takes the coaching staff can get them into the mix to challenge for the West.

If I were the kind of person who was easily influenced I might be having 2nd thoughts. I checked out a CFB board on reddit, that was my 1st mistake, but there were SMU fans bagging on Hicks from a month ago when he first announced his departure.

It sounded like sour grapes really. They called him "Pick Six Hicks" and blamed him for every SMU loss in his time there basically. Said he had an attitude, got frustrated easily etc.

In the tapes I have watched, I saw little of that. Yes, he had a pick six in OT vs Cincy, but it was not a misread. He had a rusher right in his face on 3rd and 2 and couldn't step into the throw and threw a hair behind a slot receiver who was covered man to man.

2 plays before he had his helmet knocked off and was body slammed in a way that normally draws a flag. They called a TO so he wouldn't have to sit a play and he delivered a very nice throw rolling to his left for a 15 yard gain on 2nd and 17.

SMU had 23 yards rushing in the game, putting it all on him and the passing game. They had 4 WRs and sent them all deep except Proche and left the one back in to block vs a 5 man rush and he got pushed into Hicks. There was only one place to go with the ball as everyone was covered.

It was kind of like in basketball when the guy with the ball is trapped and no one comes back to the ball with only one outlet. I didn't like the play design and all the SMU fans put it all on him, predicting "SEC defenses would tear him up."

I take it with a grain of salt as in if you listened to our fans from 2013-15 whining about Brandon Allen as if he couldn't QB a flag football team. He's now 60% of the way to an NFL pension BTW.

I don't think he is quite as talented as BA, but I would put him at least even with Austin, maybe better. Which is better than Austin with a bad shoulder in 2017 or way better than anyone on the team last year after watching several tapes on youtube.

He played better vs TCU than AA in 2017. I would say he gets a little careless with the ball at times, but nearly half of his career INTS came as a RS FR pressed into duty after an injury to the starter and he cut them every year.

Don't be surprised if we get trolled by disgruntled SMU fans or other SEC fans quoting them. But over 9,000 yards and 71 TDs in an FBS program is nothing to sneeze at and he is without a doubt in my mind a nice upgrade from what we saw last season.

I wouldn't.  We are to limited in scholarships at this point and with Hicks committed now and with Jefferson in the wings being the future, I think we are looking great.  Besides, they will take another QB next season, no need to add another this year.

I get the sense that we will be on some quality QB recruits as long as Morris is here. Not sure I would consider another QB a priority unless it was a total stud transfer.

Thanks for posting the video.  He's more mobile than what I expected from what's been written about him. He'll be no weak link.

The offense, and thus team, could look a lot different next year.
