Ole Miss
« on: January 12, 2019, 02:50:07 pm »

Just handed Mississippi State their first home loss of the year. Ten wins in a row for the Rebels, including beating down Auburn last week.

Can't say I pay much attention to Ole Miss, but I thought Kermit Davis was an underwhelming hire. From outside it looked like he was inheriting a bad team and didn't add much talent, but the Rebs are balling. Definite surprise of the SEC so far and they're looking for real.

Ole miss replaced an established coach that was pretty good but never took them far in the tourney. One that had been around for a while and things got a little stale. And now they're balling...hmmm

Kennedy had some talent, Davis is juicing it. Good coach.

Agreed. Not surprising at all. He was always highly regarded at MTSU among coaches and basketball writers.

Talent?  Huh?  They were picked to finish last in the conference.  The four recruiting classes that make up this team were rated last in conference, next to last in conference, 10th and 9th.  What a wealth of comparative talent.

Kermit has found success in recent years but he has been trashed as not knowing how to coach by fans at other stops, why coaches can succeed at some schools an not others is puzzling to me.

I remember how Davis took one of our cast offs, who shot free throws like the ball was filled with molten lava, and turned him in to their conference player of the year.

Davis is a tremendous coach. People who follow college ball already knew that. The other thing they know is that Ole Miss had 3 excellent guards on the team already.

They stunk because their coach lost the team midseason last year. Still surprising but not shocking.

Add that big Polish guy and the freshman Hinson and they're dangerous.

Unrelated side note: A&M won @Bama on a running buzzer-beater 3.
