Bannister from Fayetteville
« on: January 08, 2019, 08:49:05 pm »

It is my understanding he walked on at Mizzou.  Did he go there because that is where Powell went?

Did we offer him a PWO position?

I can understand not using a scholarship on guys that donít have the measurables you are looking for.  But if we didnít offer a PWO spot for him it makes absolutely no sense.  Especially when he was in our backyard.

Kid is going to be a baller.  Already turning into a reliable 3rd down receiver.

Don't think we even offered PWO but I am sure Taylor going there didn't hurt (who we also obviously didn't offer a schollie).

He is Tim Horton's nephew and Harold Horton's grandson.

I'm guessing you were pushing for him in 2017?

No.  Didnít even know who he was in 2017.  But then again, I donít get paid 4 mil a year to make evaluations.

I didnít know he was related to the hortons.  Knowing BBís relationship there I think we just found the answer

My point was, it's easy to set back and MMQB on missed offers/walkons two years later. As to BB and the Horton's, Long got ride of Harold, and Bret went with Lunney over Tim. New HC'S are going to bring in people they want, correct?

I understand that but letís not pretend that Bret was buddy buddy with the hortons.  The first year injury tweet from Tim and Bretís response was quite telling.

I wouldn't expect him to be, and Tim was the coach at a conference foe.

If Tim Horton had a nephew that was a prospect, I think we would have seen his name on here at some point. I don't recall that ever happening!  I'll admit he looked good in a bowl game, but a future baller that we missed out on is a bit of a stretch at this point. He had what, 8 catches this season? I can't even find much about his HS contributions.

I still like the Hortons and glad to see someone in the family exceeding walk on expectations in the SEC, but it's hard to say how much more he'll develop. These slot receivers are hard to project sometimes, but I'm pretty excited about John David White & Finn Corwin and ready to see what these all state/undersized HS stars can do in our offense.  Hopefully they don't get blown away with a late offer.

The kid might be great and good for him

Could he also the grandson of Glenn Bannister out of Ft. Smith??  Uncanny resemblance  if he's not.

Lunney > Horton in my book. Lunney has turned into a decent coach and recruiter.

His dad's family is from Conway.  His mother is Harold Horton's daughter and I suspect she met dad Bannister when Harold was the coach at UCA.

Gus recently stuck a knife in Tim's back demoting him to a non coaching position on the staff. That one left me scratching my head. Auburn's problems didn't appear to be at running back.

At any rate I think it would be great to have Tim Horton back at Arkansas. Maybe at the Foundation or on staff in the athletic department. He and his dad are Razorbacks. He doesn't belong at Auburn, certainly not now.

Auburn's top rusher had just 827 yards in 13 games. The number two wasn't a threat. They have not been getting star-caliber recruits at RB recently.

Somebody had to pay for the transfer of the RB who was screwed on his redshirt.

So, you think he'd take a 50% cut in pay to be in Fayetteville?

Since this kid walked on at Mizzou and not at Ark I guess Iím having trouble comprehending why we are discussing him.  If he really wanted to be at Ark he could have walked on here.  It isnít like Mizzou offered him a scholarship out of HS and we didnít

Coaches in major college football are fired, demoted and asked to move on with regularity.  Are they all "stabbed in the back"? or is that just reserved for coaches on the Gus Malzahn staff?

Who cares if he has "lineage". Can he play worth a crap?

We have "lineage" on our sideline right now at the QB position that will probably never touch the field. That "lineage" stuff means nothing to me.

Horton can stay in Alabama too......don't want him back near the program.

Boy you sure twisted the hell out of that...

The question was asked why is the kid being discussed.... answer: because of being a local kid and his lineage.

No one said he should be playing here because of lineage.

He isnít being discussed because the staff doesnít think he will fit into their direction. Plain and simple. Just because they play at Fayetteville and have lineage promise a spot or attention.

LOL! ! !

The guy specifically stated, SINCE THE GUY WALKED ON AT MISSOURI AND NOT ARKANSAS...This would indicate the poster was already saying he "COULD HAVE" walked on at Arkansas...
And you say HE was having trouble "comprehending."

You realize that Bannister is a current player (will be a  RS-sophomore) for Mizzou....... right?

He was a miss by the previous staff not the current. Morris would have no doubt gave him a PWO offer.

Taylor Powell was also a miss by Bielema but I think he skipped out on him to avoid the melt down from offering another Fayetteville QB.
