Encouraging take aways vs Bama
« on: October 06, 2018, 02:06:42 pm »

Storey progressing nicely, played well vs best team in the nation, offense was what we are paying for from a creativity and scheme standpoint.

Rakeem Boyd becoming a volume back with 3 down usage

Oline was not an absolute sieve

Ogrady impact

Scoota, Greenlaw and Agim are Real SEC players

Pulley will be in the league as a nickel corner, having to play a little out of position now, but a good player

Ramirez, unfortunately is a glaring weak link on D. Angles are as bad as Ive ever seen, wish Montaric would get more run.

Have a great day folks.

Some good takeaways but we just donít know how to avoid huge let down plays. Starting every game down 2 TDs is a huge problem. We have to minimize the mistakes that cost us field position and points. Period.

youre 1000% correct, I was stripping all that away and focusing on what I saw that can be carried forward. I also have a list of bad stuff, but really isnt worth it vs bama

Defense is awful, offense surprised me today. Boyd is a stud. Where was this offense early on? QB battle should have been settled in the Spring.

Special teams showed improvement this week. Nothing catastrophic happened.

Im not sure the defense is awful. It is talent deficient but technically its improved from a scheme and awareness standpoint (minus ramirez). Bama has done this to everyone, averaging 52 or so a game

Did Morris take over play calling? Cause this offense is what i think everyone was expecting (hoping) to see.

Bama didn't cover, so there's that.

I wouldn't have thought we could score 31 on Bama.  Still much work to do but it looks encouraging.

And the guys didn't give up.  Even though they likely knew they didn't have a chance, they didn't give up.  That's a big plus.

Here is something to think about- We have made all of this improvement against AU, A&M, and Bama.    We now have 3 games in a row to improve the Oline and WR's against OM, Tulsa and Vandy.   The WR's stepped up today which is the last piece of the puzzle for improvement on Offense.

I didnt see any penalties for 12 men on field, maybe one for false start....anyway, seems like they were much more disciplined today. Just me?

We just played the best Offense in the history of CFB.

We had an awakening on offense against the #1 team in the nation.  We now have 3 games in a row to improve the Oline and WR's against OM, Tulsa and Vandy.   The WR's stepped up today which is the last piece of the puzzle for improvement on Offense.   Stewart and Woods looked good early and then Pettway showed up late which I hope creates some momentum for the WR group.

Here is something to think about- We have made all of this improvement against AU, A&M, and Bama.    Our Defense played the best offense in the history of CFB.  Our defense was penalized with 3-4 easy TD's on our own mistakes.
We could win 3-4 of the remaining games OM, Tulsa, Vandy, LSU, Mississippi State and Mizzery.

They looked like a team, unfortunately the better team won.. but in a weird way,  I feel better about CCM than I have in 5 months.. we could win several games, if we can continue to get better...and they hang onto the rope..

I think he took it over at some point during the A&M game.  Or at least started overriding some calls or having more input.  There was a noticeable change in that game.

We scored more on Alabama than we did against A&M, North Texas, Auburn, and Colorado State.   Huge improvement by the offense today.

Iím most encouraged by CCMís reading comprehension skills. With the improvement, he obviously lurks here in MMQB for his best options. Whoever suggested the squib on kickoffs, Iím sure CCM thanks you!

Radio announcers seemed to say Craddock.  Which if so may be he is finally doing with these players what Morris believes is capable of doing.  Good question.

It's not the play calling, it is the execution.  QB has to learn how to read, OL has to learn to protect, Receivers have to learn how to run routes and make reads.  Obviously when these things start to come together things look better.

Team will continue to improve.  I hope the fans do as well.

I wasnít confident we would score against Bama at all, and was expecting 7 or 10 points at the most.  We just put up 31, the most they have given up all year.  No way that canít be a positive.

I think Enos knows our personnel and used that knowledge to exploit our weaknesses. Not that would have made any difference in who won, but I think the reason for so many embarrassing plays against our defense.

The play calling was much different today compared to the previous 5.  I'll bet we had more passes to the tight ends today than we have all season combined.  The tight end screens, misdirections, and dump off passes have not been the norm.

We've been running delayed hand offs and long jump ball passes down the sidelines.

Execution was better but playcalling gave them a chance to make plays which had not been the case.
Today we saw what we can be with a real SEC QB.
Not putting Storey down he left it all on the field but left at least 14 points on the field
With late throws and fumble. The fumble was inexcusable. The ONLY thing that he could not do with 1st and goal was fumble and he did.
Late pass to a wide open Hayden etc.
But with that said he gives us a chance against the rest of the schedule.

The fumble was my fault. As he was about to get hit I had a flashback of Matt Jones at the exact same spot on earth, against Texas with us down by 2, when I screamed "Don't fumble" and Jones fumbled about 1/2 a second after I screamed.

With my flashback I, yes, again yelled "Don't fumble!" at the TV and Storey.  I am scum.

First thing he said was what a good job our offense did and thought Storey played a great game.

The WRs were active in the offense for the first time in a while.   We had quick open WRs for Ty to get rid of the ball quickly, so the Oline didn't have to carry blocks for very long.  The Oline is gelling.

Weíve got a long way to go to get back to competing in the SEC.   Not going to beat Bama until Saban leaves.

I was encouraged by our offense with 4 scoring drives over 50 yards.  We had 3 TD drives over 75 yards.  I would never have imagined this offense sustaining multi-play drives against Alabama.

We also saw that speed kills (lack of).  We chased speed on defense all day long.

We never gave up.

One final thought (and then on to Ole Miss).  SEC officials were consistently horrible (holding, personal fouls, pass interference) swallowing their whistles on Alabama.  Agim got molested and he still had six tackles.
