This Missouri team reminds me of Petrino’s teams
« on: September 22, 2018, 11:48:07 am »

Defense is probably not good enough to beat the elite teams but the offense at least gives you hope.

I know we have a long long way to go but when CCM’s offense is fully installed with his players I expect at least that level of success.

They always have those long, lean, fast WR’s.  But yes, they look well coached and prepared like BP’s squads.  I’d kill to look like Mizzou.

Lock is a better qb than Mallett or Wilson.  Their offense is much more spread than Bobby’s was even with Dooley’s emphasis trying to run. Our offense in 2010 had a lot of I formation.

Defensively Mizzou has been much more consistently competent than ours.  Very disruptive.

I get you don’t want to give Mizzou any credit, but they do pretty well considering their recruiting limitations.

We actually had a number of slow starts and comebacks with Bobby.

I know, but they're still Mizzou (spit). Just like how we all love to hate on the Aggies and say "Aggie gonna Aggie." Doesn't change the fact that they're loaded with talent... But we still can't help but look down on them, regardless our recent pitfalls.

You tell me.  I know we didn’t look well prepared in many games with slow starts, penalties and drops.  But Bobby was a fantastic in game coach often and made winning adjustments.

I get it, and I don’t like them either, but as a fan of a program that’s been irrelevant for a few decades now, my trash talk has subsided.  Mizzou will beat us by 3 TD’s.

So a coach who adjusted.  What a novel idea.  His teams were as well or better coached than any Hog coach since Holtz.  We love to pick him to pieces, though.  Maybe CM will surpass BP.

Yeah I certainly don't trash talk any program now.... I mean, we have a worse record than the Cleveland Browns for pete's sake (though, they are a much improved team this year)

His play calling is helping the Mizzou defense and keeping them in it.

So can we work a deal with Bud Light to lock up a bunch of beer in bar fridges throughout the state and give it away when if we finally win another game?

Probably not with Bud Light.  Maybe Natty Light.

It's really a brilliant marketing scheme they did with Cleveland. It's free advertising because they talk about it during every game. So if they don't win, then that's just another game the announcers will talk about it and show pictures of it. If they do win (which they did), they'll show viral videos of it all over the place and I assumed they would even show them getting unlocked on SportsCenter (don't know if they did or not).

My wife is from Cleveland so I have to kinda root for them. I like their Defense. Myles Garrett is a beast. And, regardless how you feel about Baker Mayfield, he is a winner. He's got the swag that Johnny Football had, but he's also not a complete idiot like JM was. He's focused and actually wants to be successful. Plus, with Nick Chubb in the backfield, they've got some good tools to really start building a solid team that may actually be able to compete in the near future.

Meanwhile, the Scott Frost nightmare continues.  39-0 Michigan before halftime and Michigan has the ball.

Tying the Steelers in the first game of the season is a moral victory for the Browns. That was also their best start to a season since 2004....

I wonder if the Nebraska faithful are as ready to throw Frost off a cliff as some of ours are with CCM?

Why didn't Chaney run it in from the 5 after the INT?  He threw two 50-50 balls.

I don't disagree. Everyone hates on CCM but gives Frost a break because he doesn't have his players. Both need the right players in their systems to win.

"That's what you get when you hire a 13-22 (or whatever it was) record." Well Nebraska is getting the same thing with a coach that went 13-0.

What's the score now, 33-14? You're right that does remind me of the BP days when we played some of the top competition.
