Commings is training with former MLB outfielder Jerry Hairston Jr. He has private workouts scheduled with a number of MLB clubs, and he also has a showcase scheduled for March 8.

Commings was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL Draft. However, injuries kept him off the field for most of two seasons before the Chiefs released him in 2015. After meeting with Hairston in November, the two began training five days a week for him to work out for major league teams.

“That baseball thought was just in the back of my head,” Commings said. “My dad, he kept pushing me to go do baseball, even though I had been away from the game for a while. He believed in me even before I believed in myself. Once I got with Jerry, I believed in myself even more. And now, I’m completely confident.”

Commings played baseball at Westside High School in Augusta and was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 37th round of the 2008 MLB Draft.
