**BIG COMMITMENT ALERT**

Jheremy Brown who works for Perfect Game tweeted this:

#Arkansas fans have to be happy with the way the 2020 class is shaping up. Land another big piece 2020 SS Michael Brooks; versatile & athletic defender, handles the barrel and pop continues to come along. #WPS. #51 per @PerfectGameUSA

The Hogs dip into South Florida and pick up another big time commitment for the 2020 class.  He makes basically our third top 50 INF for the 2020 class along with Cayden Wallace and Robert Moore.  He looks to be a potential big time hitter with developing power.

What makes this even better is that we went into an area we have not really had a presence in before except for a 2019 commit and a state with multiple elite programs and took one of the top players.  That is big time for Nate Thompson.  Brooks is the 12th commit for the class of 2020 and the 2020 class is currently ranked third on PG.  The two teams ahead of us are Vandy (always have the top class on PG before the draft) and Miami.  You have to wonder if we could catch them by capitalizing on the 2018 season.

We have less commits than them too.  2020 could end up as our best class ever

I think it could be too.

Based on PG points (which depend on your national rank), our top two classes in terms of points were 2017 and 2018.  Now, I'm not sure if that factors in transfers after players get on campus, but it shows that large classes help.  2017 was at 104 points and 2018 was 97.  Right now, we sit at 111 for 2020; however, we will probably have some draft casualties.  I think we will wind up with 20-22 commits like we typically have which means our point total will more than likely be 150+ pretty easily unless it is a bunch of lower ranked guys which I doubt it will be.

That also doesn't factor in players like Tink Hence or Jaxon Wiggins improving even more.  Hence is now a top 200 player, but has really blown up this summer.  One thing I have been impressed with Thompson about is that he has gotten in on some in-state players early and then they took off.  Players like Zack Morris who is now a LHP hitting 93 or Nick Griffin who is a top 25 player in the 2020 class were seen as reaches by Thompson when they committed, but now look like excellent gets.

The answers to these questions might be somewhere in this thread, I just don't feel like searching for them.....1. which of the Hogs 2019 class went pro, 2. which players will be on the 2019 squad, and 3. who could make considerable impacts in 2019?

Article from WholeHogSports about the recent domination on the recruiting trail:

http://www.wholehogsports.com/news/2018/sep/25/diamond-hogs-assembling-best-recruiting-class-2020/

Also sounds like the potential for more big time commits based on the article.  Having Wes Johnson has been a huge asset as he is an excellent recruiter to add to Thompson.

BIG COMMITMENT ALERT

From Jheremy Brown:

Here’s another big commitment for #Arkansas with 2021 RHP Vincent Trapani out of Wisconsin. Strong build, impressive this summer with FB up to 91 mph, spins a hard CB with late bite. High upside. #65 per @PerfectGameUSA #WPS

The first commit of the Matt Hobbs era as pitching coach appears to be a big time one.  The Land of the Spotted Cow has been a nice recruiting ground for us over the years and we land another in Vincent Trapani.  We have had some bad luck getting the signees to campus (Ben Rortvedt), but we typically get a top 100 player from in-state every couple of years now it seems like.  Sure hope he makes it to campus.  Looks to be an excellent pickup.

The Hogs pick a commitment from RHP Brady Tygart out of Hernando, MS (Memphis metro) this evening.  He hit 87 with his fastball this past summer so you have to imagine more is probably in there.  Will be interesting to see more about it, but what is available right now is currently limited.  He is a 2021 commit.

UCA can give you more details but here is the top 10 rankings.

You can also read the rest of the thread. Cayden is discussed a bunch.

!Who are the 3 and tell me about them!
Cayden Wallace out of Greenbrier, AR is the 5th ranked player in the class.  He is a 3B with a big time arm and excellent speed (sub 6.7 in the 60), but he is one of the top hitters ever produced by the state of Arkansas.  He has been an elite hitter for a long time.  He also hits 91 from the mound.

Nate Wohlgemuth out of Owasso, OK is the 9th ranked player in the class.  Not your ideal build for a pitcher ala Isaiah Campbell as he is only 5-11, but he has hit 95/96 with consistency over the last year.  He also has a nasty breaking ball.  Also plays OF very well, but probably a pitcher only.

Masyn Winn out of Kingwood, TX is the 10th ranked player in the class.  He could be a true two way player as an INF or as a pitcher.  Big time arm as he has hit 98 on a throw across the infield or mid 90s from the mound.  Also a very good hitter.

We also have Braylon Bishop who is the 4th ranked player in the 2021 class.  He is an OF for Arkansas high school in Texarkana and, like Cayden Wallace, one of the best hitters ever seen as a high schooler in Arkansas.  His cousin is Jaden Hill who is a freshman RHP for LSU, but was highly rated last year.

Outside of the three 2020s I mentioned, there are many more who could big time contributors in college.  Dayton Moore's son Robert Moore is one of the most elite defensive prospects out of the KC area as a SS and also has a big time bat.  Ethan Long out of Arizona is a power hitting corner INF who also hits 94 from the mound.  Nick Griffin out of Monticello is a LHP who throws 91-92, but could also play OF in college.  Michael Brooks is one of the top infielders in the state of Florida.  Tink Hence is a RHP from Pine Bluff who throws 93 while Clayton Gray is a big time OF prospect in Cabot.

Currently triple slashing .423/.515/.823 with 21 2Bs, 10 HRs, 53 R, 47 RBIs, and 13-14 in SBs.  Looks to be a solid JUCO pickup.  Interesting to see where he is slated to play.

Hopefully 1st, maybe 2nd. Those are the ony holes we have next year, depending on the draft. I think Washington takes over in RF and Franklin moves to CF. Wouldn't mind seeing Kjerstad at first but then you loose his arm

We have TCU transfer Colby Boulware who is a 2B / OF.  Hit like .270 something with a lot of SBs as a freshman at TCU.  Probably our starting 2B as it stands right now.

It’s really good to have more potential impact hitter coming next year. I think the team needs that and one more impact pitcher to be really special.

Or a high number of freshman developing as pitchers for their sophomore year  - which is a real possibility with some of the raw talent.

The Hogs have picked up a commitment from Fresno City College Sophomore OF Chet Allison.  He is a 6-2, 200 OF from the Fresno area.  Tripled slashed .297/.402/.407 in 2018 as a freshman with 13 XBHs (9 2Bs, 2 3Bs, 2 HRs), but has upped that production to .435/.532/.826 with 30 XBHs currently (15 2Bs, 6 3Bs, 9 HRs).  He has also upped his SBs from 13-17 as a freshmen to 16-20 so far this year.  He had 172 ABs in 2018, but has 138 ABs so far this year.  Looks to be an excellent pick up and could be an impact player in 2020.

I would think we would have a pretty good chance of getting Allison to campus.  Not sure we would take his commitment otherwise.  We have had some solid JUCO pickups in the spring period in the past few years with Goodheart and Nomura to name two.  Allison and Webb have put up insane stats as sophomores after having ok seasons as freshmen so it makes me think they have finally grown into their bodies.

McFarland is talented enough to where I think he will be drafted in June much like Plunkett was last year.  If he figures it out, a team could have a steal of a pick.  Would like to have him back just because the ceiling is so high.

I think the light has come on for Macfarland finally. Like UCA said, some team could be getting a steal with a late pick if they take him. If anything, we could be even more dangerous next year if he decides to return and keeps up this level of play we've been seeing from him.

Peak McFarland has Golden Spikes potential.  Only problem is he is prone to extended cold streaks as well.  Would be huge to get him back for his senior year, but I'm not counting on it.

Hopefully all of these recruits that are going to get drafted will take a look at the fun times like the Opitz walk-off team celebration and want to be a part of it.   Omaha in 2018 and hopefully 2019 should help as well.

Spend a couple of years traveling well, having college fun before turning pro.  I wish them all the best but hope that means some Razorback years for some.  WPS

Looks like an excellent pickup.  Hit 91 at PG Jr National this week which has to be near the top velo in his class.  They have a video on Twitter about his outing at PG Jr National and he has a very pronounced leg kick.  He also looks like he still has some growing to do since he is only 5-10, but that could be as tall as he ever gets.

Yes. Dontrell Willis type leg kick. Hard low 80 slider too.

Hogs always great in Baseball recruiting but back-to-back Omaha appearances should put this over the top.  Great fans, facilities and best coach in college baseball.
