Wi11ieBeamin:
Like PRJ alluded to, Beard has been and still is #1 with Mussleman waiting in the wings. No one and I repeat NO ONE has been offered the Arkansas job, Sampson and Marshall included. HY set out to get Beard from the beginning and did not expect TT to make it this far so things have changed a little including the price tag. We are willing to spend the money though to get him. $5million to $6million is gonna be thrown around to get our guy. We are not messing around this time. The PTB knows that this is our chance and they are gonna swing for the fences. HY has done everything the right way and all the rumors like Alford, Mcafferey are just him doing due diligence in the case something goes wrong. However, Musselman is the clear cut #2 and is just waiting for the phone call in case Beard says no. NO matter what we have ourselves a pretty good ball coach. Go Michigan St.!

farmhawg:
Brilliant.

Nice copy and paste.

I'm glad somebody has finally figured this all out.

Good post

That is the story that I think everyone here hopes is correct.

Agree 100%

No idea if you’re right, but this certainly seems plausible.

I hope we’re this squared away in the process.

moses_007:
Well if we're NOT going to pay more than what we pay the football coach (around $3.5 million), there's no reason to wait for Beard.  We won't get him for anywhere near that.

It's gotta be Musselman or another mid-major.

Seebs:
Has this been endorsed by Grant Hall?

Kevin:
so does the plan stay in place with a win on saturday, or if he wins the whole thing

hobhog:
I’m going to go with this. All other rumors/posts are wrong. I want this to be true so it is fact.

Seems legit.

So you mean to tell me that they put Mussellman above Marshall and Sampson??? Seriously?

Sampson was offered the job and if anyone thinks otherwise it's because they dont want it to look like he backed out.

AugustaHog:
If EM is the floor to this whole thing, then I'm good with swinging for the fences on Beard.  Musselman is a good coach who in the right situation could be very good.  Beard looks like the guy who could come in and have you on a 20-25 year run a la Dean Smith, K, Boeheim, etc.  That's the dream scenario.  We need that kind of impact because we have been in a near 20 year rut and only something sizeable will change that.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Arkansas moves on to Musselman if Tech wins tomorrow.

I could see that.  If Beard has expressed interest though, it could really depend on just how strong our people think that interest is.

moses_007:
We'll likely wind up with a coach that the majority of us have never heard of... like Chad Morris...

BuddyHog71:
I feel better now.  Thank you!

Thank God. I was just about to jump out of my 3rd floor office window and I decided to check HV one last time. Glad I did.

It’s all about semantics.  They can come on here and say coach x,y,and z were never “offered” the job.  Now they could have gone through discussions and been courted but when they weren’t interested the narrative becomes they were not offered.

I find it laughable that certain posters want to continue to pound the table with it has always only been Beard and Muss.

KS - not enough interest in whatever we pitched. Laymen translation: turned down.
GM - same
Beard - TBD.
Muss - ? Probably interested but waiting on follow up call.

Need to aim higher, too much chance of surviving that fall.

DoctorSusscrofa:
Beard surely knows if we’re interested. If Beard knows TT knows. I haven’t heard TT saying as much about Beard as UH said publicly about Sampson. Maybe I missed it while reading about Muss or Marshall?

rhames:
Sampson was offered the job. The coach in waiting stuff proves that. Lol.

TT's AD has said publicly that he will pay "what it takes" to avoid losing Beard.

TT doesn't have a Booster/President of the board willing to run their mouth like UH did.

I agree. I was skeptical until it came out that UH had made his son HCIW.

Well fortunately I don’t have to. We’re gonna make a run at Beard, flop and roll out Pelphrey 2.0 on Monday.

cobra kai:
So, if that's the case, then Marshall was always further down the list behind Musselman? That's a little disappointing... I just don't think there is any chance of landing Beard, and I would rather go after GM before EM.

Well, if Pelphrey 2.0 is Musselman, then at least maybe it's been upgraded.

Because they aren’t willing to pay for Gregg Marshall and when push come to shove they won’t pay for Beard either.

rhames:
If we were waiting on a coach, coaching this weekend, why was Bud Walton set up for a press conference on Monday?

Why would you wait this long and then back out rather than wait two more days?  What happens on Sunday and Monday for which we have to have our coach in place?

HawgTide:

It's hilarious to me that people are taking Grant Hall as gospel. When was the last time that guy was dialed in? Maybe in 1999 he had big time inside sources but not 2019.

GM wasn't available when EM was.  It's also entirely possible we had no plan to approach GM given his history with coaching searches, but he reached out to express interest, so we talked.  It's all rumors and innuendo anyway.

I just don't understand why we are settling for Beard. Need to offer every final four coach, put 'em in the ring, victor becomes AR head coach.

Be serious. If Tech wins tomorrow, the chances of Arkansas getting Beard go way, way down.

Since he's already under contract, can we just pay a little kicker during the basketball season and not need to go through this whole negotiation process? Then we could see if he might take on a history class or two. Win/win
