Santa Anita and Golden Gate Fields announce Lasix ban
« on: March 15, 2019, 12:28:14 am »

I had to double check the calendar to make sure it wasn't April 1.

Here's the first paragraph from the DRF article -- "The Stronach Group plans to implement a ban on the race-day use of the anti-bleeding medication furosemide for horses racing at its two California tracks, Santa Anita in Arcadia, Calif., and Golden Gate Fields north of San Francisco, along with a handful of other policy changes, according to an “open letter” signed by the company’s president that was distributed on Thursday."

I think around the 4th paragraph it mentioned that it was not clear WHEN the policy would take effect.

Here's a link to the rather lengthy article -- https://www.drf.com/news/stronach-group-announces-furosemide-ban-santa-anita-golden-gate?type=

Stronach could not possibly handle this situation any worse. Unfortunately we are seeing the last of Santa Anita. I’ll be shocked in Santa Anita lasts another 3 years.

Political posts are not popular on this forum...but here it goes anyway:
Liberal mentality: deflect from the real problem by moving attention to something that is false...but believable to the ignorant masses!
This is not putting a band-aid on the wound...but rather like putting a band-aid on your finger, when the injury is on your foot!
Just saying!

Giving peta legitimacy is absurd as well. What is gonna happen with the BC?!

Here's my take.

As you likely know, when the BC comes to town, they take over the track. The track management largely cedes operation of the track to the BC, which has to abide by the rules of the racing commission of the state in which the track is located, but not necessarily any rules by which the track operates under.  So, there's that.

Furthermore, I've got to believe that the contracts that have been signed would not allow Santa Anita to just change the rules of the game as they pertain to the BC, just in case the scenario I threw out in the previous paragraph is erroneous.

But now that you bring this up, 2019 might be the last time we see a BC at Santa Anita.

Can you imagine if someone at Lone Star Park in Dallas would team up with Oaklawn to steal all this racing from the crap state of California...it would not be hard to do!

Texas racing is going down the tubes fast.  I wish they would pass the games of skill and improve it because it could be huge for Oaklawn if it was top notch racing in Texas

Sounds like Trump and his wall. Stupidity doesn’t belong to one political party.

Excerpt from Los Angeles Times article --

"The Los Angeles Times gathered a roundtable of three well-known experts with more than a century of knowledge working in the horse racing industry to try and dig down into what went wrong at Santa Anita and where things go from here.

On the panel are Alan Balch, a former Santa Anita executive who has also worked with other horse breeds, and is executive director of California Thoroughbred Trainers; Joe Harper, president and chief executive officer at Del Mar, who has been running the track since 1978; and Ryan Carpenter, one of the top equine surgeons in the country and who works on the backstretch of Santa Anita."

Meanwhile, on the east coast, the Stronach Group has other flies to swat --

Who out there remembers the battle royale between Dee Hubbard and Marge Everett for control of Hollywood Park?

Had to be about 25 years ago, but seems like a lifetime ago.

No sooner it seems had Hubbard wrested control from Everett that he sold out to Churchill Downs. Been downhill ever since out there.
