MONROE, La.- Big nights from Ronjanae DeGray and Kyra Collier led the Trojans to a 57-38 victory over ULM to clinch a share of the regular season Sun Belt Conference title.
Ro. DeGray led all scorers with 24 points (9-13) while grabbing six rebounds on the day. Collier had a good showing on the offensive end, scoring 16 points on 7-14 shooting with four rebounds to her name.
Kyra Collier got things started with a free-throw line jumper just before the shot clock expired to score on the Trojans' first possession. Consecutive baskets from Ronjanae DeGray extended the lead with just under six minutes to play in the opening period. The DeGray sisters would combine for eight of the first 10 Little Rock points as Raeyana DeGray was active with four early points. Neither team could find an offensive rhythm in the first quarter but Little Rock would take a 12-11 lead going into the second period.
Krystan Vornes got her name on the scoresheet with a jumper to open the second quarter. Collier followed that up with a mid-range jumper from the wing to push the lead to five points. Teal Battle got in on the action with an impressive spinning layup in the lane just before the seven-minute mark in the second. Little Rock started the quarter on an 8-0 to force a ULM timeout after taking a nine-point lead. By outscoring the Warhawks 18-6 in the second period, the Trojans would hold a 30-17 lead heading into the break. Little Rock's defense was stellar, holding ULM to just 28.6 percent from the floor.
The Trojans didn't take long to start scoring in the second half as Ro. DeGray sparked her team with six consecutive points. However, the teams would trade baskets through until the media timeout and Little Rock was unable to increase their lead. Tori Lasker hit her first three of the day to push the lead to 16 points. Ro. DeGray continued her hot shooting to extend the lead with a 17-footer from the baseline and a short jumper in the paint. After another solid quarter, the Trojans took a 47-25 lead going into the final 10 minutes.
The teams would continue to trade baskets in the fourth quarter and the Trojans would retain their sizable lead. Back-to-back buckets from Ro. DeGray would all but seal the victory for Little Rock halfway through the final period.
The Trojans have earned the number one seed in the Sun Belt Conference tournament and will await their opponent in the semifinal round starting March 15 at 11:30 a.m. at the Lakefront Arena in New Orleans, La.
