Bielema Expects to be Patriots' DC
« on: January 27, 2019, 09:43:26 pm »

Note he said he "expects" to be the Patriots next DC.  He will be mighty disappointed if that doesn't happen.

Hope this happens just because it will reduce the amount we pay him.

Other than 2014 his defenses here were terrible. Since I am ready for the Patriots era to end hopefully they hire him and they get the same results we got for 5 long years.

Evidently, Belichick doesn't like the hogs and is promoting BB to make hog fans who wanted BB fired look bad.

Brilliant move. Hope they also hire Jeff Long as General Manager. That would deflate the team faster than they can deflate a football!

He's perfect for the job. I'm a big Bielema backer today.

I can't wait to rag my ex-boss, a huge Pats fan. I told him Benintendi would be great for the Red Sox the day after he was drafted so I have a lot of cred in that area. It will eat at him.

I was actually wondering about this. How much will this effect what we pay him? I'm curious if anyone knows more details about it.

I had a friend that played at UCA in the early '80s.  He was a little undersized so part of his training included a diet with heavy doses of peanut butter.  Guess those coaches/trainers thought it was a good idea nearly 40 years ago.

As do I, but I wouldn't put much credibility behind that report.  According to an unnamed source, Bret has been telling people.....  When someone puts their name on it, I will take it more seriously.  Until then, I doubt it.

I was actually wondering about this. How much will this effect what we pay him? I'm curious if anyone knows more details about it.

We continue paying him around $320K per month until December 31, 2020. (about $3.84 million a year from his termination or about  $11.935 million total)

From what I have read, it sounds like that amount is lowered dollar-for-dollar based on any employment he receives after his termination up until December 31, 2020. So, if he were to make, for instance, $2 million/yr. as DC of the Patriots, it would lower our buyout by $2 million/year to where we only paid him $1.84 million/yr instead of $3.84 million/yr.

I am not sure how much he has been making as a "consultant" for the Patriots, but likely much less than a DC would make.

Look Jen, give it a rest.  Your days here at Arkansas were pretty good, you got to lay around and collect a huge amount of money through your husbands inept coaching ability.

Edit: I do apologize Jen, there was a downside to that laying around, you had your 400+ pound husband on top of you at times,  :puke:

I read this today, https://www.yahoo.com/sports/bret-bielema-reportedly-expects-next-231127764.html

Is this not the same Greg Schiano that Bret was really jealous of and actually fired him from his staff?  This would be funny if he came in and got the job over Bret.

Maybe he feels, "We are Close" when asked if he thinks he will be getting asked to be the DC.

Kinda like he Felt the Ark Team was "Getting Close" to breaking out as top team under him..

I get some of the hate.  I also openly admit Coach B wasn't getting the job done, and the thing I am very disappointed in Coach B was the hiring of Kurt Anderson.  Absolutely wrecked his team, and this past year's after effects of poor coaching were at Anderson's feet.

Having said that, my understanding is that Coach B has has lost about 40 lbs, and stopped drinking (probably the two are related, obviously).  I wish him the best.  He was a very good man.

For all the folks who want to pile on and say he destroyed the program, yadda yadda, I'm not disagreeing with you.  Some coaches aren't cut out to be the head coach.  This doesn't mean they deserve to be attacked.  I'm sure the $320,000 checks he cashes each month help him deal with it without me kind of defending him, as a person.

The person who told me he had lost 40 lbs, told me this in September.  He said he had basically stopped drinking as well, but I couldn't 100% confirm anything, and I think the only picture I've seen of Coach B is one of him and the Hogs on the Patriots team that was recently on Twitter.  He is a big man, but I doubt I could get a job at the fair guessing weights like Navin Johnson.

That was my thoughts as well. Belichick does not talk much and Iíd wonder if he didnít like Bret going around wth his bravado style claiming something that Bill hasnít said a word about publically if indeeD Bret did say that.

Well they basically have the same setup as the 2014 team. Stud d-line with a couple stud LB. Easy to funnel offenses
