How A&M looks at QB after Nick Starkel transfer:

--- Quote ---Starkel, like A&M starter Kellen Mond, still has two years remaining of eligibility, which would not be lost on any brash high school senior in sizing up the Aggies' depth chart.

So where exactly does A&M stand at quarterback with Starkel's imminent exit leading to August camp? With perhaps their toughest schedule in program history at hand (Alabama, Clemson and Georgia all are on the slate), the Aggies should still be in good shape at quarterback.

For starters, Mond returns for his junior season after starting all 13 games last season for the 9-4 Aggies. He was mostly a middle-of-the-pack SEC quarterback in his first full season as a starter, and his 474 rushing yards ranked third among league quarterbacks.

Mond showed a ton of poise down the stretch and as the schedule stiffened, especially in the Aggies' seven-overtime victory against LSU and their routing of North Carolina State in the Gator Bowl.

With Starkel out of the picture, who's No. 2 behind Mond for at least the next season is up for grabs. Second-year coach Jimbo Fisher a year ago signed Alabaman James Foster, who ultimately chose the Aggies over Fisher's prior stop of Florida State.

Foster didn't touch the field last season as a true freshman — although he could have played in up to four games and still redshirt under the new rules —

Auburn returns its entire starting offensive line—a unit that struggled for portions of last season but finished the year strong—and heads into the 2019 season with 17 scholarship offensive linemen https://trib.al/K4qfZJE

--- Quote ---Malzahn isn’t panicking about Auburn’s offensive line situation, but the Tigers’ seventh-year coach understands the need for urgency in the trenches.

Auburn signed just three offensive linemen in the 2019 class, which was two shy of the coaching staff’s goal of five signees this cycle. The program has not signed more than three offensive linemen in a given class for four straight years now.

It’s something Malzahn and his staff will need to address in 2020.

“You will see us probably sign the largest offensive line class we’ve done since I’ve been here with this class, and I think we’re already in a pretty good spot with 2020 going into this class,” Malzahn said Wednesday during his National Signing Day press conference.

Auburn returns its entire starting offensive line—a unit that struggled for portions of last season but finished the year strong—and heads into the 2019 season with 17 scholarship offensive linemen, including the three newest signees: four-star guard Keiondre Jones, three-star interior lineman Kamaar Bell and three-star tackle Justin Osborne. Of those 17, however, Auburn will lose six to graduation after this upcoming season, including the entire starting five up front.

Falling out: Mizzou

Hogwild:
Championship – Jan. 13 (CFP semifinal winners)
Projection: Clemson vs. Georgia

Can Clemson repeat as national champions? Absolutely. The Tigers are currently the odds-on favorite to win the 2019 title and likely won’t be challenged in ACC play. Their biggest test out of conference is a home game with Texas A&M and they are projected to be nearly a three-TD favorite against the Aggies. QB Trevor Lawrence and RB Travis Etienne will put up some huge numbers all year.

Georgia? Really? Sure, why not? The Bulldogs return 15 starters – 11 were only freshmen and sophomores last season, including QB Jake Fromm and RB D’Andre Swift. Eight defensive starters return on a unit that was second in the SEC in total defense. To get to this point, Georgia is finally going to have to beat Alabama in the SEC title game. After coming up painfully short the past two seasons, they’ll break through this year.

Semifinals

Peach Bowl – Dec. 28 (CFP semifinal)
Projection: Clemson (CFP No. 1) vs. Alabama (CFP No. 4)

Yes, another Clemson-Alabama matchup. Stop fighting it and just accept it’s going to happen. They will meet again in the playoffs for a fifth consecutive season and I’m going with the semifinals in 2019. Because of Alabama’s personnel losses (a school-record seven players left early for the NFL) and coaching turnover (Nick Saban has lost 13 assistants in the past two seasons, including both coordinators each of the last two years), I think the Tide will regress slightly and won’t win the SEC. They should still dominate in the regular season and roll to the SEC title game, where they will lose to Georgia, but still earn a berth in the playoff. Because Clemson is the No. 1 seed, the Tigers will play their semifinal in the Peach Bowl in Atlanta.

Sugar Bowl – Jan. 1 (Big 12 vs. SEC)
Projection: Texas vs. Florida

As Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger said after last year’s win against Georgia, “Longhorn Nation, we’re baaccckkkk.” But I’m projecting Texas will be back in the Sugar Bowl again. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. It just means they will finish behind Oklahoma again. With OU in the playoff, Texas would be next in line to take the Big 12’s invite to the Sugar.

The SEC representative will be Florida. The Gators would be next in line from the SEC since I have Georgia and Alabama making the College Football Playoff. If I’m right – and when have I ever been wrong projecting bowls 10 months ahead of time? – it will be the Gators’ first trip to the Sugar Bowl since Jan. 1, 2013.

Orange Bowl – Jan. 1 (ACC vs. SEC/Big Ten/Notre Dame)
Projection: Syracuse vs. LSU

Since Clemson will be in the playoff after winning a fifth consecutive ACC title, the next highest-ranked team will head to the Orange Bowl. And I can’t think of a more fitting pairing than the Orange in the Orange. Syracuse will build off last year’s 10-win season under coach Dino Babers with its first Orange Bowl appearance since 1998, when it was in the Big East.

Syracuse’s opponent will be LSU, as the highest-ranked team from the SEC, Big Ten or Notre Dame after the playoff and Rose and Sugar bowls are filled. The Tigers are no strangers to bowl games, having gone to a bowl the past 19 consecutive years, the second-longest current streak in the SEC. If they end up in Miami, it would be their first trip to the Orange Bowl since 1982.

Citrus Bowl – (Big Ten vs. SEC)
Projection: Michigan vs. Texas A&M

Outback Bowl – (Big Ten vs. SEC)
Projection: Wisconsin vs. Ole Miss

Gator Bowl – (Big Ten/ACC vs. SEC)
Projection: Nebraska vs. South Carolina

Liberty Bowl – (Big 12 vs. SEC)
Projection: Baylor vs. Kentucky

Belk Bowl – (ACC vs. SEC)
Projection: Pitt vs. Tennessee

Music City Bowl – (ACC/Big Ten vs. SEC)
Projection: Miami vs. Mississippi State

Texas Bowl – (Big 12 vs. SEC)
Projection: Texas Tech vs. Auburn

Texas A&M quarterback Nick Starkel set to transfer to Arkansas: https://www.chron.com/sports/aggies/article/Aggies-quarterback-Nick-Starkel-set-to-transfer-13662928.php … via @houstonchron

--- Quote ---COLLEGE STATION – Nick Starkel once threw for 499 yards in a game, second most all time at Texas A&M.

He’ll now try to duplicate that early success with the Aggies at Arkansas. Starkel, who will be a junior, announced Monday night that he intends to play for the Razorbacks this coming season.

He’s scheduled to graduate in May from A&M, making him eligible immediately at the school of his choosing. He chose to stay in the SEC West, in picking Arkansas over Florida State of the ACC.

Starkel’s career highlight to date is throwing for the nearly 500 yards in the Belk Bowl to cap the 2017 regular season, a 55-52 A&M loss to Wake Forest, second only at A&M to Kenny [The Trill] Hill’s 511 to start the 2014 season...

He’ll now play for former SMU coach Chad Morris, an A&M graduate, at Arkansas, and compete with SMU transfer Ben Hicks for the starting job. Starkel won the A&M starting job in 2017 under then-coach Kevin Sumlin, but broke his ankle in the Aggies’ season-opening loss at UCLA.

He returned later in the season and starred in the Belk Bowl, despite the Aggies’ loss.

A&M and Arkansas play on Sept. 28 in AT&T Stadium in Arlington...

Would have liked to see better analysis for his picks. He cites Toledo being inexperienced when KY actually loses more statistical production. Not sure why Stoops would want to stick it to the State of OH. Maybe because he was born there?

RE: MS. ST and ULL he says MS St. couldn't do much offensively but they had 607 total yards? Thinks 22 points is low and because it's in NOLA? Please, Vegas isn't that dumb, or dumb period.
