CONWAY, Ark. _ University of Central Arkansas soccer player Kristen Ricks was named to the Women's Scholar All-America Team on Wednesday by United Soccer Coaches.

Ricks, a senior defender from Keller, Texas, with a 3.35 grade-point average in broadcast journalism, was a third-team selection.

"What a great honor for Kris and for our program,' said UCA head coach Jeremy Bishop. "Kris works so hard on the field and in the classroom and to be able to see that hard work pay off with being recognized among the best in the country at doing both is really special. As a program we have done really well in both of these areas and to see one of us get this recognition is great for all of us.'

Ricks was the 2018 Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a first-team All-SLC selection. Ricks, the SLC Defensive Player of the week a conference-high four times this season, was also an All-Midwest Region selection by United Soccer Coaches.

Ricks, who topped the SLC with eight assists this season, led a Central Arkansas defense that allowed just 17 goals in 21 games (0.8 per game), which was second-best in the SLC. She also set program records for career matches played (82) and started (81).
