I think Alabama is a couple notches below where they are accustomed to being. I think Georgia is better right now. Lsu and Georgia could meet in the seccg.

Just listened to the podcast with JCP.  I now have more respect for her.  I wish her well at Ohio and her career and thank her for filling the position.

Ditto +1 also  - A very good interview - very impressed with JCP

I think you are right and the A&M game could well be a winnable game again this year.

Wouldn't it be great to see Nick Starkel light the Aggies up with multiple touchdowns to Burks, Knox and O'Grady through the air while Boyd gets to do some dancing in the end zone himself.  Starkel leading Arkansas to a win over Fisher, Morris beating the Agg's, Rakeem showing out would all be great story lines for a win there.

It all comes down to “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard”.

That being said, Jimbo Fisher had issues toward the end of his time at FSU in part from being a player’s coach that lost sight of his responsibility. How he dealt with Jameis Winston led him toward the way it ended. Hard work includes preparation for opponents.

aTm has been more talented for the better part of a decade. I honestly think we worked harder but it didn’t quite make up for spurts of talent toward the end of games. Meh.

Last season two things happened against aTm. We played “ok” and aTm played like garbage which makes me refer you back to Jimbo’s time at FSU. aTm had less ground to travel to field a decent team than Arkansas. QB has been a problem, but they were stacked in comparison to Arkansas during their changeovers.

Now, how will the game against aTm go this season?

Nobody can say, at this point all we’ve seen in improvement at Arkansas is 1/2 at Ole Miss and large chunks against Colorado State (which showed excellent potential during about half the game, 1st and 4th quarters). We’re making progress for sure but how that progress actually stacks up against a team that is just as big, fast and strong as us, we’ll see how our improvement gauges against others in big conferences (SEC). Lack of an out of conference early game against a P5 team leaves us wondering. Of course for building the team from the ground up playing some FCS and G5 teams this season and last probably helped quite a bit. Depends on how you look at it.

As for how the game against aTm will actually go?

Well right now it’s all academic. We haven’t played any team with similar talent. Ole Miss doesn’t count. They are still “not good”.

I certainly hope the story of Starkel, Boyd and company wins the day, it would absolutely be a great story.

It's a long season, folks.  I would get more serious with trends once we have had the same QB run the offense for 5 or 6 games.  Then that is going to provide a way more accurate picture I think.

And yeah, we may have quarters like the 2nd from time to time.  As this staff and offense work on new plays and schemes there will be some things that work and some things that don't work...at least not yet.

Give it time.  We saw a pretty big dose of positive play that 4th quarter last week and to be honest I'd rather see us taper off the 2nd quarter a bit rather than see us collapse in the 4th quarter when it matters most.

Defensively I would like to see us cut the opposition's scoring down each quarter until the 4th quarter the opposing team's offense is running on fumes and we crush them in the end.  That most likely won't happen consistently until we have 2 fully aged strings ready to chomp at the bit to get on the field and eat the QB's lunch.

I'd guess we'll be somewhere in the #8 - #10 range.

Had we caught the fly ball 15 months ago, we'd be a bit higher . . . maybe 5 or 6.

But we didn't.  That really doesn't change much were our program has been over the last decade - but it does change perception of the people that make these sorts of lists.

With so many bowls now, sometimes 5-7 teams are invited.  I know there is criteria to be eligible as a 5 win team, but I don't know it (beyond there not being enough 6-6 teams).  All that said, I think it is just too early to tell for us.

Love the perspectives here on HV.  I understand how we "should" pound SJS in the ground and I'm optimistic we will.   I just don't want anyone's mindset taking  step backward and having a let down.  There is a difference between a let down and trying new things and making a few mistakes.

But again, I hope we prepare like we are going to battle with Bama.  Keep up the intensity and speed and let's see if we can improve on the CSU game.

I'm ok with expanding the play book (preferably in the 2nd half and after a big lead) so I think this Saturday could be as interesting to see how the team responds as much as last week.  We get two good weeks in a row...bring on aTm.

I mean this with all sincerity but I’d like to see more wildhog but with Burks.
I think its something that could give us an edge later on.

I think once Chief has played 11 guys in the same position for may be 5 or 6 games...THEN we gonna see some shitaki flying around that ball.

I will be more critical of Chief once these young players have a year under their belt.  I trust Chief and know his defenses progressively rank higher each year and get better with experienced players.

I'm ok with Chief right now but I'd like to see the Defense really hone in on their game the best they can this season.  That way we will know what we need to recruit still and know that these young uns are gonna age in a year or two and knock some socks off.

I think Gregory will be leadoff. DVH likes the fact that he will take a walk and steal a bag
