Title: I was wrong about Lane Kiffin
Post by: The_Bionic_Pig on December 21, 2019, 04:19:16 pm
I was one of his biggest cheerleaders during the coaching search but I now see he hasn't changed: https://www.palmbeachpost.com/sports/20191220/breaking-multiple-florida-atlantic-starters-expected-to-miss-boca-raton-bowl-for-academic-reasons?template=ampart&__twitter_impression=true

I hope the above scenario is repeated in Lafayette County, Mississippi.

Not sure how this is Kiffin's fault?

Unless, FAU doesn't have academic advisors in place to alert the coaching staff of athletes' shortcomings.

I know at OU advisors are updated weekly by the professors on athletes' progress--or lack thereof.  I would assume the same holds true at UA, but not sure.

Miss Sue's Toby Tubby Tutors, LLC will do a better job in Oxford.

If Kiffin did not know, that is his fault.

Well, FAU is beating SMU (who didn't lose their coaches) 28-14 at the half without those guys. So there's that.

But I agree, make sure your players are getting it done in the classroom. No reason not to with the resources available.

At bigger schools, definitely.  Not sure what checks/balances are in place at FAU...maybe more than the bigger schools?

On the surface, it appears that kids didn't go to class and didn't bother to qualify academically.

Just imagine the backlash if Arkansas best Offensive weapons were all ruled academically ineligible for the bowl game.

He either didn't know or didn't care.

Both Kiffinesque qualities.

Trying to make yourself feel better that we missed on Kiffin over this is a real reach. Appears his second and third string players are pretty dang good though.

There's no excuse.  But I wouldn't blame the head coach.  There's a lot of resources available to student athletes that the general student population doesn't have access to.

100% on the "student" athletes.  They let their team down.  Said team needs to beat the darn outta them.

Not sure why this post was made.  Kiffin apparently not only recruited a lot of talent and depth, but also assembled a pretty darn good coaching staff basically on peanuts that is whipping Dykes and Lashlee

Of course it's the Head Coaches job to make sure his players are academically eligible! It's even worse if you continue to play ineligible players when you have others on the team who are actually eligible. It's called management! Now that it's out,how many games ARE they going to FORFIT !

Amazing what you can do in college football when you are making your own rules.
