Luke Fickell?
I could get behind that. He's about to have one and maybe two match ups with Norvell and Memphis so I would wait and see how those play out.

Are you going to continue this segment through basketball and baseball season?

Wonder who the coach is HY has in mind but we may not can afford?

Not sure what I think of the Luke Fickell possibility.
No Southern ties at all. Defensive guy.

He's an Adam Sandler look alike that's for sure.

I have to wonder of it isn't affordability of salary but paying a big buyout to the school he's at.

Just a guess. There's at least two coaches ahead of him but they might not be able to get them. Not ready to say who they are at this point.

Fickell is an odd choice.

He is doing well at Cincinnati, but he has never coached outside the state of Ohio and all of his staff are rust belt guys.
Title: Matt Campbell

Any chance we can hire a guy like Matt Campbell to get this program back where it needs to be?

Any chance we hire Matt Campbell? I think he checks most of the boxes and has the best chance to get us back on track.

Not a tease. The people I'm talking to don't want the names out there at this point. If it looks like either one of these two coaches is about to be hired hopefully I'll be told that it's going down. Don't want to burn bridges with sources I will continue to need.

I think Fickell sticks to the area he is in. If Day tries the NFL, he will try for the OSU job.

I don't see them paying a big buyout to get someone. Campbell is 6 million.

Auburn owes Gus 27 million if they fire him. He be dumb to take less. If they want him gone, I am sure he will force them to pay every penny. I just hope we don't waste time on him. Best thing is Auburn beats Bama giving him another year.  Need to get a hire made Dec 2nd, 3rd, or 4th and get them on the road as they will have 2 weeks.

Overall, how do you think people would react if it is one of 2 names you can't mention? Is money the potential holdout? Is it true the interest isn't what Hunter hoped. I assume they aren't minor names if you can't mention them.

The interest is low among proven Power Five head coaches. But as I've indicated there are supposedly two names that would get most fans excited. Money might be an issue with one and the vetting process on the other one is continuing. Or so I'm told.

There is a third name that could enter the picture. I'm fairly certain there would be very little support for him on this board but there are those who swear by him.  ;)

I'm guessing that name is willie fritz since otis recently did an article on him.  surely you don't mean malzahn...

Because he is a retread or because he is unproven?

He can't afford to make a hire half the fan base wont get behind (or might take a year or two of winning to prove themselves here and turn people's opinions).

Im pretty much convinced if Mike Leach doesn't get the job this time around we wont get anyone that can fix this program. We have tried the big name big ten head coach, that failed, we have tried the up and coming group of 5 coach that failed. Neither had experience in rebuilding a program or winning with lesser talented players than their opponents. The only issue I see with leach is they will have to hire a top notch DC.

true, winning games is nice, but what HY really needs is butts in seats.  winning helps with that, but there is a good chance the next couple years will be low on wins no matter who the coach is.  HY needs someone that is going to excite the fan base right away.  Alienating half the fanbase is probably not a good move in that regard.

yep. Have to have someone who's done it before and that people will believe can get it done and is getting it done as we pull our boots out of the mud over the next couple years.
