I never thought he was that good of a driver, he just has the gift of gab and that has carried him all these years.

Wow ! 12 years ? That's surprising.

Unless I misread the line, I could have sworn that I saw it was his first pole since 2007.

And yep, from nascar.com.  It is only the third pole position he has earned in 14 years of full-time Cup Series competition and the first, coincidentally, since this same date Ė Sept. 14Ė at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in 2007, a race he won. There have been 431 races since his last pole.

What may be more impressive is the 1-2-3-4 start for SHR cars.

Another surprise in the starting lineup is this:  4 Fords, 5 Chevys, and 3 Fords before the first Toyota (Hamlin) starts in 13th.

Kyle starts 20th, Logano in 22nd, and Truex in 24th.

You would think that at RCR through 2011 he woud have gotten a pole or in 2012 with Waltrip when he finished 2nd that he would have a pole. I'm very surprised that three yrs with SHR hasn't produced a pole til now.

Who you got?  Hard to bet against Harvick, but I'm gonna roll the dice on Bowyer.
His last pole resulted in a win, so why not tonight.

These cars are so sensitive to clean air itís hard to guess anymore. Kyle has damage already so I have to say that improves Harvickís chances at a W.
Title: Re: Playoff time!

Looks like Stage 1 is going to Logano. By 6.5 seconds over #2 Harvick.

Not bad for a guy who started out of the Top-20.
Title: Re: Playoff time!

Stage 2 to Truex. Harvick has been good but heís also been 3rd.

Byron, Kurt Busch, Bowyer, and Jones having trouble or out of the race, and as of right now they'll be the first 4 out of the Playoff - Richmond and Charlotte are their chances to get back in it.

Logano got pinched into the wall by Suarez and has nose damage now.  Should have lifted.

I missed the reason for this caution when I switched over to football.  Edit:  Kurt cut down a right front tire and met the wall.

Kyle has bounced off the wall once.  At one point was 2 laps down.  Now he's running 7th and the 2nd-fastest car on the track.

Frickin buzzkill.  Harvick pitted with the fastest car on the track.  After the pits he's average and not in the same class as Truex.  He's over 2 seconds behind the leader now.

He plowed right into the back of someone and messed his splitter up.  Now he's just trying to hold on for the last 7 laps.

Richmond runs tonight at 6:30 CST, same as the Hogs game.  I'll try to flip back to the race during commercials.

Keselowski on the pole.  Harvick starting P2.  Kryle starts 4th and needs a solid run to get some momentum back after the last two weeks, but he's still 4th in current standings.

Newman, Kurt, Bowyer, and Erik Jones are below the cutoff line with 2 races until the field narrows from 16 to 12.

Gonna wear out the remote between race, Hogs and Georgia/ND. Hopefully there will be an hour left to watch when Hogs end

Truex was leading and got spun by none other than Stenhouse earlier in the race.  He's back up in the lead, 1.3 seconds over 2nd place Kyle Busch with 11 to go.

Erik Jones having a much needed 4th place run.

No question Harvick has made the most of his opportunity and turned it into a HOF career.  Thinking back over the years at all of the drivers who have come and gone I couldn't help but wonder what might've happened to Harvick had he not been in the right place/time to take over for Earnhardt.

'Dega time.

Title: Re: Playoff time!
Post by: Buff on October 14, 2019, 01:55:50 pm
Big one!  Bowman tried to block Logano and lost with 3 laps to go in Stage 2.  Logano had a huge, huge run on Bowman and couldn’t back off.  Wasn’t much of a block but both cars were in the same groove.

Bowman, Truex, Johnson, Larson, Harvick, Elliott (who was 7 points under the cutoff line), Kurt Busch.... still counting cars.

Not sure how much damage the 4 car got but he did go spinning.

Post by: Buff on October 14, 2019, 03:12:58 pm
Someone pushed the car behind Kurt into Kurt, who got pushed into the 24 car, who got hooked into the 22 car of Logano.  More cars damaged, but Stenhouse was in front of it.

Byron, Logano, Erik Jones.... they went to commercial before showing the rest of the damaged cars.
Title: Re: Playoff time!
Post by: Buff on October 14, 2019, 03:45:29 pm
7 to go and another big one running 3-wide at the front.  Looked like Kurt bumped Kyle and turned him up.  Kyle was in the middle lane and leading.  Kes got bad damage, Brendan Gaughan was upside down at one point.

Stenhouse got a little damage.  Harvick got some, as well as Dibenedetto, Buescher, Hemric, Reagan.... Interesting stat - all of the Playoff drivers have now been involved in some sort of incident today.

Burton and Dale discussing whether or not aggressive side drafting by Stenhouse may have pushed Kyle across the nose of Kurt behind him.  Still.....no contact between the 17 and 18 cars.

Race red flagged.  The Chevys are so bad at pushing because of the pointed noses.  Wonder if NASCAR tells them to change that design next year.
Title: Re: Playoff time!
Post by: Buff on October 14, 2019, 03:53:43 pm
LOL.  Keselowski fired the motor up - with a hole in the oil reservoir and no oil available - and drove off pit road until the car died.  Just by leaving pit road they passed Gaughan and Kurt Busch to pick up 2 more positions and those points.

Everything helps with next week being the next cutoff.
Title: Re: Playoff time!

Photo finish.  Newman came out of nowhere on the final lap with a great push by Hamlin.

It was surprising.  He was more aggressive than usual but he was throwing blocks earlier when he had room to move.  I guess he figured he might as well let it all hang out since it's his last run in this race for the foreseeable future but yeah, he and his spotter did a great job of controlling the field.

The 2 car picked up several spots on pit road under caution, and now has a 1-point lead again for the final spot in the next round.

Right now Chase in in 2nd place.... needs a win to advance.  Hamlin in 1st place only took 2 tires on their last pit stop.

This counting points is more fun than the high-speed left turns.

GWC 1 - Kyle did what he does, pushed Hamlin to the lead, and took 2nd place from Chase Elliot.

Caution came out before the leader took the white flag.  Weíre gonna do it again.

Logano got damage in the caution - now heís 3 points above the cut line.  Kes is 4 above.

Regular season bonus points should only count for the first round of the playoffs after that only points from each round should carry to the next round. Would make it a lot more interesting than knowing the top 3 are basically guaranteed a pass through the first 2 rounds.

The traction compound isn't very traction-y.

Stage 1 to Harvick with the turn 3-4 pass.  So glad Nascar let them have the restart instead of finishing that Stage under caution.

Tuned in just as his crew was finishing repairs and wondered what happened.

I'd love to see more teams try trimming their cars out like the 4 did.  Sacrifice some downforce to get rid of drag.

Nope nevermind that one was just a loose car.  Almost the save of the year by Jimmie.

Harvick with work to do.  Penalized for a tire over the wall on a fuel-only stop.

Hamlin, Blaney, Larson, Elliott are the four cars under the cut line.  Harvick was the first car above the line but with the way he's running away today any of those four cars likely have to win next week to advance.

Harvick punched his ticked to Homestead.  Tied with Stewart for 14th place on the all-time wins list.

Logano has a 20 point lead for the 4th position in the Playoffs.  Really looking like it could be the same four as last year.

In the ISM race from earlier this year, Kyle Busch dominated.  Blaney was 3rd and Hamlin was 5th.  If one of those two win this race, it could be a nail biter for the 4th spot.

Big move for Hamlin to take the lead and win Stage 1.  That currently puts Logano out of the Final 4, as they run right now.

Stage 2 to Logano
Title: Re: Playoff time!

And then there were 7.  Chase Elliott blows a tire from 3rd place and goes hard into the wall.  He needed a win to advance - Nascar weeps.
Title: Re: Playoff time!
Post by: Buff on November 10, 2019, 03:42:11 pm
Logano is now out of it after falling back to 5th place, 3 positions behind Kyle Busch in 2nd.  Blaney is showing the speed to have a shot at winning his way in.  So far though, Hamlin looks to have the strongest car of the day.

Gibbs could wind up with 3 out of the 4 drivers running for the Championship next week.  That stacks the odds heavily against Harvick.

well the cheating Penske team should have done like last year and had Kezlousy put another back marker into the wall bringing out the yellow that Nazicar was happy to throw and let Logano catch up to the leader for the eventual win and fake title.

Friday practices rained out, a session was added yesterday.  Kyle, Truex, and Hamlin were the fastest 3 - Harvick was 9th.

Truex's team spent an extra week prepping a car for this race due to winning the first race in the last playoff round.  Gibbs overall has to have more data to use since 3 of their drivers were good enough to get this far.

That's the way it should be, IMO.  I want to see the rest of the cars racing for the win too, but don't want to see those cars getting in the way of the championship contenders if they are just racing for position.

Early on looks like it's Truex's race to lose.  Cole Pearn rarely makes the wrong adjustments during the race.

Harvick's team trimming the car out should hopefully become a major factor as the track cools towards the end.

Cole Pearn may not have done it, but the 19's pit crew flip-flopped the right front and right left tires.  Another stop under green for a fresh set of tires - huge mistake but he may only be one lap down.

Don't know but Kyle has already made up half the distance to Harvick who still hasn't pitted.

At this point it's hard to say anyone besides Kyle Busch is the favorite, unless this pit strategy somehow pays off for the 4 team.

Congrats to Kyle, dominated the second half of the race.  Even on newer tires Truex had trouble getting closer to him.

Tomorrow morning I hope Tony Stewart calls Rodney Childers into his office just to glare at him for 30 minutes or so.

I think the #18 team was setup from the start knowing it would be key to have the setup at peak under the lights.  The #19 had it nailed early on and that didn't translate as well into the evening when it cooler.
