11.30.2018: fixed the Pulley omission and Carl Williams decommitment. Also removed Kyrie Fisher, transfer, from the classification list.
12.1.2018: removed Gary Cross and Michael Taylor, errors in the 2018 thread that got carried over. Added back Brito Tutt for the same reason. Removed starter status for punter Blake Johnson.
12.3.2018: removed Cole Kelley, transferring.
12.6.2018: removed  Chevin Calloway, transferring.
12.11.2018: added Myron Cunningham (JUCO OT, JR) to the commit list.
12.12.2018: added Chibueze Nwanna (JUCO OT, JR) to the commit list.

12.19.2018: added Gregory Brooks (CB) to the commit list.
12.23.2018: removed Alexy Jean-Baptiste, transferring.
01.07.2019: removed Ryan Pulley, declared for NFL. And, Hayden Johnson moved to TE (FB position removed).
01.15.2019: removed Ty Storey (hopefully this isn't premature) and La'Michael Pettway, transferring, and added Ben Hicks, graduate transfer.
01.18.2019: Jalen Catalon (S) added to the commit list.
1.21.2019: Daunte Walker removed, decommit.
1.25.2019:Myles Brooks (S) removed, decommit.
2.06.2019: Blake Johnson (P) removed, transfer portal. Dee Walker (LB) removed, legal problems. Adonis Otey (CB) removed, signed with USC-W.
2.22.2019: Jordan Curtis moved from CB to RB.
2.27.2019: TJ Hammond removed from roster. Harrell, now cross-training at TE, will stay at WR until there is a full-time shift.
3.04.2019: Added Nick Starkel, grad transfer QB. Removed Billy Ferrell, DT, transfer.
03.13.2019: Added Trelon Smith, transfer RB (has to sit out, but counts against our numbers). I also moved Chase Harrell to TE (seems to be getting reps there and not WR).
04.08.2019: Late to the party. Courtre Alexander transferring.
04.18.19: Added Luke Jones (OC, transfer in) and Jared Sackett (K, transfer in) to lists. Created new category - "unknown scholarship status" - to reflect that we do not know if these players will get a 2019 scholie, or not.
05.15.2019: Added TJ Hammonds (RB) and removed Briston Guidry (DT). I am assuming TJ is back on scholarship and a RS sophomore. Is he a junior instead?
06.20.19: removed Connor Noland, full-time baseball
06.21.19: numbers updated...off by one somewhere
07.17.19: DVone McCLure moved to LB and Daulton Hyatt moved to WR.
07.29.19: removed 2019 recruiting class and began using 2020 recruiting class information.

Why do you have Blake Johnson as a starter?
Title: Re: 2019 Depth Chart
Post by: lakecityhog on December 01, 2018, 12:50:54 pm
Okla, with your numbers it looks like we will need 9 transfers if we sign 29. According to Otis, Taylor and Calloway are gone so that knocks the number of required transfers down to 7, but his number was 6.
Title: Re: 2019 Depth Chart
Post by: lakecityhog on December 01, 2018, 03:14:14 pm
Okla, Gary Cross is a Senior this year and should be removed. Britto Tutt should be a senior and added.
Senior class =        19
Junior class =         19
Sophomore class = 13
Freshman class =    11

All of that should take you to 85 or 62 without the recruits. 62 scholarship players on the roster plus 29 recruits comes out to 91 total requiring 6 gone.

Moved Robinson (and Latham, the recruit). Removed Taylor and Cross. Changed status for Johnson. Changed classes for Tutt.

Until we have a formal notice of separation I'm not removing anyone from the roster.

No confirmation that Jordan Curtis is leaving. He is recovering from being on the wrong end of a pedestrian/vehicle accident.

Cole Kelley's transfer is now official.

I wish you would take away the committed players from the depth chart and put them only in the committed list by themselves because we know many committed will not sign.

I like you adding the Signed to the depth chart though.  They are Razorbacks now.

I am very curious to how many will not be asked back.  If I was pretty sure I was not coming back I would tell the coaches and let them help me find a school to go to now.  Maybe a D2 school so I would not have to set a year.

Title: Re: 2019 Depth Chart
Post by: nwahogfan1 on December 20, 2018, 11:44:45 am
I would put Hayden down as a TE because that is where he practices.  He will only block from that spot probable but at least he is included in the depth chart.  As far as I know we do not use a FB but we use the TE as a blocker from the back field.

Fixed. Thanks! Did this for myself using Oklahawg's data, trying to see how big the holes are that we're trying to fill.
Thought I might as well share. Tried not to get caught up in details like LT vs RT, SDE vs WDE, etc.

It is kinda insane to see some of the gaps we have. Oline and DE are very glaring on that spreadsheet. Basically our entire team will be the freshman from this year after these seniors leave.

Not really. Some have redshirted.  Most will probably redshirt. Redshirting does away with some of the gaps.

The Srs make up only 17 of the 85 scholarship players.

Counting current commits. 85 scholarship on offense and defense. 2 specialists. We plan to sign 2 more. That’s 89. Minus Dee Walker.

Looks like the magic number is 4 more that need to transfer.

I don't see a lot of the guys coming in being redshirts. Most of the DEs will play. A few of the WRs will play. Most of the OLM will redshirt. I think you have more than half of the class play past the 4 games.

Maybe. But the DL has some quality to it. Guidry will be healthy and I think Porter is going to be good. Agim, Smith, Gerald, Bell, we know will play.

RB and transfer QB are our biggest need on snifter early signing day.

We lost all those kids from LA that were LBs Munson and this kid, Walker likely gone.  Another huge hole in recruiting.

Next year will be another rebuild year with trending in the right direction hopefully

Thanks for this thread.

In looking over all the names, I was reminded of Jamario Bell. I remember when he came out of high school, he was very highly regarded. I hope this fall that his career finally takes off. He just seems to me to be one who has never turned it on. I always heard he is a freak athlete, and would love to see that come out of him for the Hogs.

My gut tells me there were some players in the group who needed the fresh start provided by Chavis/Morris but also needed a more "go fast" approach ala the Nutt era - less stunting and more "sic-em." That is both a compliment and an indictment. Good: they have good instincts and when allowed to lean on that can play fast and hit hard. Bad: at some point you have to be coachable and have some football IQ that allows you to be "coached up" beyond raw talent/instincts.

I am impressed with the 37 upper level players on the team.  That is a good thing. The bad thing is many are not SEC caliber and should not be on the 2 deep.  But maybe they will develop plus add leadership.

Which ones do you feel are not SEC caliber and do not belong in the 2deep? I see a couple that fit that description, although they could still have time to step up, improve with hard work and dedication, and contribute before their eligibility is exhausted, but you make it sound like a large number fall in that category.

Not trying to be argumentative in any way, and I respect your opinion, just wanted you to elaborate. Thanks!

Considering 2 of them will for sure move inside, and with collin clay playing both inside and out i would say we are not over loaded there.

I was screaming about bert's lack of recruiting at the DE position in 2015. It showed in 2017-18. We did the best i think we could do this year on the D line. Got some guys who played DE who will bulk up and be speedy inside guys. Got a couple 300+ pounders with insane short area movement speed, and explosiveness. On the outside we got guys who can stop the run, and can rush the passer. Elite level talents as well. I am very happy with our D line haul.

We have to follow it up this year though with about 5 more high level guys inside+out to really set the depth chart up.

Anybody think we look heavy at DE?  I love the players, but I wonder if we might have a potential LB or... something.

4 are seniors and two are big enough they could out grow there position so I'd say no

Where I differ from you, with the injury TB will not be in the starting line-up over Knox who will go through spring practice. Colton Jackson will be a starter somewhere. He and/or Gatlin may kick down inside to get the best on the field. I don't think HH beats out Gunter for the 2nd TE spot, without injury at that spot he could RS. And I think Whaley is TB1 still.

On defense, Bell is the starter opposite Gerald. Tutt beats out Brown for the CB spot. I think McClure could lose his NB spot to one of the Freshman.

You don't redshirt potential pro's ..no way HH redshirt s unless injured

Most know he is undersized and needs to add strength to compete at this level, if he were going through the entire off season maybe he gains the size and strength needed to become an early starter/contributor but with the new RS rules it could happen. I don't see it happening but it's definitely a possibility.

I know he is a little thin but it's not like in this offense tight ends are asked too block a ton.. they can still you use him catching at different positions and they will because he is a match up nightmare

1. Hunter Henry was a little thin as a freshman too, but he was too talented to redshirt. Hudson is on the same level as his brother, maybe even better. Hudson Henry is NOT going to redshirt, and he will pass Gunter on the depth chart.
2. Knox might begin the season as a starter, but as the season progresses, Burks will work his way into the lineup. It might end up being Burks, Knox, and Woods as the starters. Burks is the best overall receiver Arkansas has signed since the 2008 class that included Greg Childs, Jarius Wright, and Joe Adams. Burks is Childs talent with Boo Williams size and Joe Adams speed.
3. If Whaley is the starter at RB ahead of Boyd, then that means that he has practiced above his previous level, which means we will have two outstanding running backs in 2019! But I see Boyd starting. He clearly out-played Whaley last year.
4. Jamario Bell has done nothing to justify his 4* rating coming out of high school. Big disappointment so far. Gabe Richardson has been a solid contributor at end, and started some games in 2018. He and Dorian Gerald are the clear favorites to earn the starting jobs there now that Agim has moved inside to tackle.
5. I have seen nothing from Tutt to believe he will be a starting CB. Montaric Brown is entering his second year at CB, and is a more talented player. It might not even be Brown or Tutt. Jordan Curtis hasn't been given a real chance yet. He redshirted his first year, then suffered through a car wreck last year. Don't sleep on either of the true freshmen CB (Bush, Brooks) or Montaric's cousin, LaDarrius Bishop too. Any of them are more talented CBs than Tutt.

I can't really argue against any of that with any vigor but,
I don't see HH passing Gunter on the depth chart, GG really came on towards the end, and HH is just too slight, not saying he won't end up playing a lot in the H-back type role or big slot.

Bell was playing more snaps than Richardson at the end, and was starting to play well.

Whaley started every game he wasn't injured. I don't think there is a ton of separation between the 2, Boyd was able to stay healthier.

TB is a beast, but so is Knox and Knox and the rest are all going through spring and fall. As discussed elsewhere, 8 months post ACL is not usually a good recipe for a skill player to just start tearing it up.

Tutt has been around and started playing quite a bit. He has the desired size and speed for a big time corner, but this is a toss-up really, maybe one of the Freshmen wows including Bishop.

– Hudson Henry is a big tight end for us. We know his family legacy and what Pulaski Academy has done. At his frame, I think he's going to come in and make a major impact.

This is what Morris said about Henry. I'm not sure how soon he expects this "major impact" to happen.

I could see Colton Jackson or Myron Cunningham moving to RT as the starter there, and Nwanna moving inside to guard, although maybe not as a starter right away.
LT - Cunningham
LG - Capps
C - Clary or Robinson
RG - Clenin
RT - Jackson

I hope we can get better at the Tackle spot and make Jackson a back up.  He has been a starter way too long because no one could beat him out and not because he had SEC talent.

Unfortunately he's not the only one on the roster you could say that about.

If Jackson is pushed in practice, it will either make him a better player come game time, or it will reveal his shortcomings and he will lose his starting job. I still have a sneaking suspicion that Jackson will either be moved to right tackle as the starter there, or will eventually lose his left tackle job to Cunningham. He hasn't really had any serious competition since 2016, when he was a 2nd string backup.

Cunningham is working at Left Guard . trying to get the best 5 on the field. he couldn't take the LT spot from Jackson. The D-line takes a major hit at the end of the season from graduation

That was during the spring. He has a much better chance to take it during the fall

I think right now they just want the best 5 on the field at the spot the can fill . As the season goes on we may see movement as back ups progress and get experience

Full on for 2019 - removed 2019 players as recruits and began 2020 recruiting class. Curious what, if any, departures occur before fall camp begins.

is this the actual depth chart going into practice friday? or a guess?

Suggestion: discuss the depth chart on MMQB. Let's keep this thread focused on the depth chart.

Note: I will try to keep track of who is starting, or has started, but "depth chart" is more about tracking who is in which class and the makeup of the various positions.

With a few exceptions, I think it is pretty close. Burks may not start at receiver, or, he might prove to be the best wideout on the team. Dunno.
I am still believing that Colton Jackson and Myron Cunningham will be the starting tackles. But for now, Wagner is the starter at RT.
I also think that someone (Silas Robinson) may end up supplanting Ty Clary at center.
On defense, I am guessing at many of the backups.

One thing to notice.....- I got the heights and weights from arkansasrazorbacks.com, which means these are the most recently updated heights and weights from the UofA.
Some of them are surprising!
KJ Jefferson is nearly 230 lbs! Rakeem Boyd is 213! Agim is back up to 294 from the 280 he played at last season.
