With the Cubs out I'm pulling for the Brewers. If the Brewers get knocked out I would pull for Boston.

That makes sense. Boston is the first and still the ONLY team to ever come back from being down 3-0 in a 7 game postseason series. And makes it even sweeter that both were done vs the Yankees.

The fact that Holt homered off a position player isn't his fault. It still counts in the record books. Just like a strikeout would count for the position player who pitches.

I'm not getting over confident.
I still remember the 3rd game of the 2004 ALCS - Yankees smoked the Sox 19 to 8.
I thought the Sox were dead - they came back and won 4 straight to win the Pennant.

Price is going to have to start having good postseason outings if the Sox are going to win it all.
Astros are playing great and that would be a tough match up for sure.

But Cora overall has been great for the Sox.
Totally different mindset and attitude this year / none of the clubhouse drama.

2 strokes and a heart attack later we win.

I was worried about Kimbrels command. he's had issues throughout the year. Not like the Kimbrel of last year.

I always worry about a closer in post season - sometimes they just collapse under the pressure.
And yes - not the first time this year Kimbrel's come in with command issues.

The TBS crew is Ron Darling and his sidekick. In the ALDS they were huge Yankee homers. Now that NY is out of it they have turned their extremely biased adoration onto the Astros. I spend more time with the TV muted than I do listening to those two clowns. Tonights GS by JBJ did more than shut up the Houston crowd. It also put a bitter taste in Darlings mouth. I bet he was about to choke the last inning or so every time he had to mention the Red Sox.

No doubt they hit his glove - I just can't decide whether the fans hands were inside the field of play or Betts glove was in the stands.

I'm sure Cora's wheels are spinning figuring out how to handle the rest of the postseason.
He can't have much trust left in Kimbrel.
Title: Re: Go Red Sox
Post by: David† on October 18, 2018, 01:21:17 am
I see the guy in light grey shirt on the right holding onto the wall, right hand extended out for ball past wall. Guy in Orange reaching out past guy in grey to catch ball. He has contacted mookie glove. Mookie has not made it to the wall at the point of interference.
Title: Re: Go Red Sox
Post by: David† on October 18, 2018, 01:33:33 am

Mookie drifts into wall well after contact. He was reaching more up than back into the stands. His arm glove or elbow didn't hit the wall. Had he been over the wall it would have.
Title: Re: Go Red Sox
Post by: HamIAm on October 18, 2018, 08:59:36 am
The ball is right at the wall. In or out, when it's that close, if you are a fan you have to leave it alone.  Not from a rules standpoint, but from a common sense standpoint.
Title: Re: Go Red Sox
Post by: hoglady on October 18, 2018, 09:12:00 am
Very disappointed in TBS studio last night - every one of them just so certain this was a home run.
Just because it was going to end up in the stands (which seemed to be their argument), doesn't mean the fans weren't reaching over the wall and interfered with Betts.
They are terrible anyway - I love Pedro but he is not good in the studio.

I switched to MLB network for some post game common sense.

I was hoping to see Harold Reynolds in studio - he's the best.

The more I hear Hinch talk the less I like him. I don't have a problem. with the Astros other than they are playing the Sox. they have a fantastic team and a great pitching staff.

Price going against Verlander doesn't bode well for tonight, especially since Price is on short rest and then got ready to go last night.

If Sale isn't 100% it may come down to game 7 and Eovaldi. This is far from over,.

Just my opinion here but the call was blown. Based on the replays Betts definitely reached into the stands after the ball. Once the ball crosses the fence the fans are allowed to "make a play" for it. The only thing here though is that they can NOT interfere with the players glove and replays also clearly showed Betts glove being impeded from what was going to be a great catch. (I'm of the opinion Betts would have caught the ball) Were I the umpire I would have ruled it as a ground rule double. NO homerun but NO out either.

IMO the call was correct. No angle showed the ball over the fence but it looked like the ball was going to land in Bett’s glove. No one can guarantee he would have made the play but it sure looked like it would have been caught.

Redemption for David Price.
I've never been a fan of his - but I saw how excited he was last night when Bennie made the great catch.
He told Cora after the game he wanted the ball tonight.
Guess he corralled his post season demons - what a great pitching display he put on.

Kimbrel looked much, much better.

Go Sox - sure wish they were going to play close enough to make a game.
(I made one of the games in St. Louis in 2013 and what a thrill to see a World Series game)

They've been over performing for sure. I keep waiting on the Matt Barnes implosion. Kelly has been impressive, finally pitching to his expectations. I've noticed Cora stayed away from Hembree and Workman(now out of lineup).

They've been over performing for sure. I keep waiting on the Matt Barnes implosion. Kelly has been impressive, finally pitching to his expectations. I've noticed Cora stayed away from Hembree and Workman(now out of lineup).

Workman isn't even on the WS roster now. He had the one appearance in the LDS? Or maybe it was early in the LCS and flat out stunk. But good news is he was replaced not by Stephen Wright, which would have been the smart choice, but instead by Drew Pomeranz. Who it so happens stinks just as bad.

Wow.......I sure thought it would be JD on the bench tonight since he has a tender ankle. Instead Cora is using him in LF while Betts stays in RF and Holt is playing 2nd base. Cora is playing with fire here imo. We can NOT afford to lose JD to an injury tonight and risk losing him for the rest of the series. I guess Cora is trying to go for the throat tonight and put LA down 3-0 in the series, which would make a comeback by them highly unlikely. Only ONE team has ever overcome a 3-0 deficit in a post season 7 game series and ended up winning that series. And we all know WHO that team was.  ;)

definitely not the move I would have made. but then again I wouldn't have pinch hit Nunez for Devers the other night either.

Cora has had the "go for the jugular" mentality all season. I hope this pays off.

Maybe he's thinking with the righty Porcello on the mound that Roberts is gonna have an all lefty lineup and JD won't see much action in left  😉

Someone has to sit. Can't be Betts.
If Martinez has a tender ankle - certainly can't sit JBJ (he can cover too much ground).

As I said in the other thread - more surprising to me is Moreland batting in the 3rd hole.
I guess his hamstring is better.

JBJ leaves 15 minutes early on a steal, Vasqy gets a single on a ball that rolls to wall. JBJ might have scored, but definitely should have been 2 on 2 out with pretty ricky bunting.

can't make base running errors like that in the world series

Good Lord - this is going to be a costly loss for the Sox - if they can't figure out how to get some runs.
Eovaldi has now thrown 70+ pitches.
Puts Boston in bad shape for Game 4.

Cora scewed up pinch hitting Benintendi in the 9th.
No Benny, no JD, no Devers for most of the extra innings.

Actually that would have been 2 on with no outs and JBJ could have gone to 3B once the ball got past the LFer. Then Porcello bunts Vaz up to 2B while BJ holds and then JBJ scores on what would have been a sac fly by Betts to make the score 1-0 at that point. And Boston would have ended up winning the game 2-1 in nine innings without Eovaldi even having to make a appearance tonight.

Cora's biggest blunder yet. Why pitch to Puig?? Barnes is a .205 hitter. Even Joe Buck said it before it the Puig at bat.
Ian Kinsler cost them big time trying to make sport center top 10.

Kinsler's head wasn't screwed on straight last night.
I mean he was like a mad man around the bases before getting thrown out at home. Should have been out at 1st and 3rd.

If you can't make the throw to first - hold the ball thus holding the runner.

He isn't. He's on the bench along side JBJ. betts in CF with JD in RF and Holt at 2B. Shockingly Nunez is at 3B tonight. I say shockingly because he got so beat up last night I was sure he would be unavailable tonight.

Such a talent - it's a shame.
It's not like he's this super competitive hustler that competitive emotions get the better of him.

In one of the most critical moments of the game, where he needs to be gutting it out to get to first - he's more concerned with blowing bubbles and cleating someone.

On that particular play I was  hollering for Devers to just eat the ball because with the way he had to go to the ground to even snag it I figured there was no way he was going to get it to first in time for the out. I was afraid this would be a forced throw that would end up in RF.  I was shocked when Machado was shown to be running slow enough to get caught. Great play on Devers part as it turned out.

Cora did a masterful job of bringing this team together on the field and in the locker room.
He cleaned up whatever was ailing them last year.

And what a change in Price (as a teammate) - that pitching staff seems to really love each other.

I thought Price would be the MVP - Pearce deserves it, too. And Evoldi saved this series with those 97 pitches he threw in the Game 3 loss.

For the Red Sox fans here.......this is a link to one particular WS Championship T-shirt that I think is pretty sharp. And you have several different colors to choose from and sizes from small all the way up to 6XL. But time is limited and orders must be placed somewhere in the region of 9:30 tonight. The shirt cost just under $25. and when you add the shipping of $3.99 it will cost you just under $29. total.

Well - Sox and Cora showing you how to play BAD baseball.
11th inning lead off double - Cora doesn't bunt Bradley to 3rd, ball is hit to SS for an easy tag at 3rd base.
Then Mookie hits a fly ball to right field - if Cora had bunted that would have been a game winner.
Dumb, dumb and more dumb.

The crew seemed a little biased in favor of the Sox. They also continually talked about so much that wasn’t relevant to the game at all. They also seemed like they were upset the game went to extras. It was a great game, enjoy the extra baseball and stop complaining about the MLB not having tie games after 11 innings.

Yes - that did get old.
Especially the talk of after 11 starting each inning with runners at 1st and 2nd - just an abomination in my mind.

Several management mistakes in the game from both teams. I’m glad the Dodgers won but the Sox were in position to win every late inning until the 12th. I was pissed when the Dodgers 3rd base coach waved the runner to home when the ball was already in Benny’s glove. I was yelling “stop stop stop” at the TV. Not sure what the coach was thinking.

Sox scored 5 in the bottom of the 1st.
Benni had a single with an RBI / then Chavis hits a Grand Slam.

Score in the 8th is Red Sox 10 / Toronto 8.
So per usual for the Sox the bullpen is giving up some runs.
