The young guys are playing a lot early. 1st game jitters I hope.
-
Almost forced another shot clock violation, but they miss at last second. Clarke fouled. AR in bonus. Clarke at FT line. 2/2 19-16 AR
-
Way too early, but don't like the 9-3 rebounding disadvantage after that being such a problem last year.
-
SHS turns it over (travel). Clarke misses three.
-
19-18 SHS.
-
Ugly play there, let him go all the way
-
Settling for a lot of 3's and missing right now.
-
Kikko is in, by the way.
-
Qualls at line for 1 and 1.
-
9:20 to go in 1st. Qualls 2/2 21-18 AR

I think it was the first real turnover off the press?

Powell block -> Madden fast break lay-up. 29-18
-
SHS scores 29-20.
-
Was Williams shooting threes in the exhibition games? Qualls skied for a board but got cut under and lost it out of bounds. He walked to the bench (no limp)
-
Stands got at least more full.
-
Shot clock violation forced by AR.
-
Half court defense is pretty intense. You guys will like this year if this keeps up.
-
3:46 to go. Timeout. 29-20 AR

Just checking... is anyone reading this?...
I am now....
-
HM double teamed low but makes the layup. 31-20
-
Bell hits the jumper on the fast break. 33-20
-
What's the story with Haydar playing?
-
SHS with a trey 33-23
-
What's the story with Haydar playing?
He's out now, but he played significant minutes. Great effort. Had one steal, almost another. SHS another 3. 33-26
-
I missed it, but commentator saying we switched to zone and Bell drifted off the shooter for both threes.
-
Williams another bad three point shot.
-
SHS another 3... 33-29
-
Williams lay-up 35-29
-
HM with a should've been travel, but got the lay up anyway. 37-29 at half.

Thanks for the good karma. I'm feeling the vibes, or the whiskey.
-

Serious question, and not player bashing, but is Anderson expecting Haydar to be a significant contributor this year? I honestly don't know.
-
is it me or do they play better DEf when Kikko is in.
-
Serious question, and not player bashing, but is Anderson expecting Haydar to be a significant contributor this year? I honestly don't know.
I think he can be. Anderson obviously loves what Madden has done in the off-season, and Wagner looks like he'll be a good player at some point in the year, but Kikko is a reliable three-point shooter and a pest on defense.
-
Hogs looking tenacious on defense, but a little chaotic on offense. Hopefully BJ will give us a more consistent offensive threat.
-

He has looked good so far.
-

I only got to watch the second exhibition, but this game reminds me a lot of it. They settled down in the second half there. Hopefully that happens again. That being said, BJ is always going to be missed on offense.
-
5 minutes til 2nd half.
-
I'm not impressed with the hogs yet they seem to be playing out of control.
Everybody Dranked the pre season kool aid like football..there a avg SEC team Florida, Kentucky, Missouri, Tenn and Ole Miss will be better than us

I expect we see Gulley out there in Kiko's minutes once he is eligible. I'm not sure how Kiko compares to Wagner yet, but it looks like he is getting the minutes so far. Minutes that will decrease, once BJ is eligible again.
-
Powell step back jumper 42-33
-
Thanks for the good karma. I'm feeling the vibes, or the whiskey.
Outstanding job.

Whoever takes Kikkos minutes is going to have to earn them. He has been the most active defensively.

Qualls and Wagner in. HM gets the floater? 44-38.
Not sure what else to call that.
-
Timeout 15:48 to go.
-
Not sure what else to call that.
He has a lot of weird shots in the point. One is reminds me of a Tim Duncan fadeaway.
-
Sounds like M.A. keeps rotating. Are they playing the kind of hawgball that will start to wear down SHS in the last ten minutes of the game?
-
Clarke and Kikko in.
-
Can we just rid ourselves of Failphrey's failures ??
-
Sounds like M.A. keeps rotating. Are they playing the kind of hawgball that will start to wear down SHS in the last ten minutes of the game?
They are playing hard defense and full court man. We'll see if SHS is worn down.

Alabama is losing to South Dakota St.
-
Everybody Dranked the pre season kool aid like football..there a avg SEC team Florida, Kentucky, Missouri, Tenn and Ole Miss will be better than us
It's the first game. I'm not gonna sit here and say that you are absolutely wrong because I really don't know it, nobody does. However, to immediately say that they aren't good because of their first game is premature. Everybody has first game problems. Michigan St lost. Florida State is tied with South Alabama in the closing seconds of the 2nd half. Rutgers is barely beating St. Peter's, Texas is losing to Fresno State, Troy is beating MS State, Georgia barely beat Jacksonville, Penn State barely beat St Francis(PA), Purdue lost to Bucknell, Tennessee often looked terrible against a Kennesaw State team that won 3 games last year. I realize most of these teams aren't world beaters, but still it isn't uncommon for teams (especially young ones) to have a slow start.
-
First game against real competition, expected it to be shaky... this may be a little too shaky
-
I don't care how ugly the wins are, as long as they are wins this early in the season. Quite a few other notable teams are strugging, some even losing, to subpar competition. I'm not sure too many teams were overly impressive in their wins today. :razorback:

That game had to be the cause of a lot of alcohol consumption and even more property damage. I managed to pull back my arm with a glass cocked and ready to be broken.

Is the year going to continue the trend of guarding the three ball?
-
AR broke press easy and wasted some clock. Clarke fouled.

SHS hit a layup at the horn 73-68 AR WINS
Thanks for pbp, +1
-
The only positive I'm taking from this game is the free throw shooting, need to get it together before next friday.
-
Thanks guys. I would've been hitting refresh on this thread constantly if I hadn't caved and gotten razorvision.
-
El Fin.
Great Job!!!! Much appreciated by those of us those of us too cheap to buy Razorvison
-
So how did we look? Of course we were without our best player.
We looked rough. Never could put our foot on their throats when they were down. BUT the new guys played a lot in this game. Clarke and Qualls were particularly impressive. We'll be a tough out with all our pieces and some seasoning to the team.
-
A "W" is great....#25 FSU and #14 MSU lost tonight
-
Kentucky losing now with 8 min. to go
-
Thanks guys. I would've been hitting refresh on this thread constantly if I hadn't caved and gotten razorvision.
I got it last year and forgot to turn it off for a few months after baseball. Won't be doing that again LOL

Please remind me that I don't need it next month. My usual site didn't have the game linked.
-
Kentucky losing now with 8 min. to go
Kentucky with 3 field goals in 12 minutes.
-
As much as I love seeing UK lose, this isn't the same team we'll see :(
-
My only concern is our perimeter defense. We failed several times to get out to a 3 point shooter and also to keep their guards from penetrating. Guards have got to work on getting in front of the ballhandler to prevent the opponents from penetrating, causing the defense to crash down into the post, and then kicking out for the 3 point. Offensively, I'm not that worried since most teams have offensive struggles in the first game and BJ was out. I hope that the perimeter defense makes a huge jump against Longwood. More contested 3's and no one driving into the paint.
-
can anyone provide a recap, box score for those of us who could not wach the game.. thanks.
-
Good showing for the JC transfer Coty Clarke! Our free-throw shooting came through for us. Hopefully we can work on our perimeter defense. See you all in the Bud for the game against FAMU!
-

Not to cop-out, but.. http://scores.espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=323140008
As to impressions of the team... It looked like it was the first game of the season. Rough. But Clarke and Qualls showed why they've been hyped up. Powell wasn't hesitating at all. And Mickelson looked much improved.

thanks, I had checked cbs and it wasn't there. Did Bell do anything, there is not a box score.
-
We didn't have Young. I believe he makes this game a blowout. I'll take the W.

Ah they had it during the game. Weird. He played minutes early. I remember him missing his first two threes. I don't think he got extensive time to be honest.

thanks..
Sorry I couldn't be more specific.
-
We'll be fine. I don't think anyone predicted a 30 win team. The most generous only expected 22-26. We will lose some games. However, we're going to win quite a few. I'd give not having BJ a -15 point handicap, if not more. With him in, the game changes completely. Many teams we'll play this year are going to form a game plan to try containing him. With no BJ, the game plans simplify greatly, as no one else poses a true threat at every spot on the floor.
-
The lineup this year seems like its gonna be:
G-Madden
G-Young
G-Wade
F-Powell
C-Mickelson
6-Clarke
7-Scott
8-Qualls
9-Bell
10-Wagner OR Kiko
11-Williams

I'd push Wagner/Kikko up to 9, but yeah that seems accurate. Qualls may move up throughout the year and I'm still not sure how MA is going to use BJ (6th man w/starter's minutes or starter).
-
Rebounds 35-17 to the bearcats. That will NOT cut it in many games. Hopefully we can get Hollyfield out of the game.
Welcome to what we saw for 5 seasons under MA at Mizzou. His teams never rebounded well. You get guys standing around outside the lane, ready to defend and no one crashing the boards. Was maddening.
-
I'd say we looked about like I expected. My first look at our team was tonight at the game. I think this team has a chance to be good. Not great but solid. I had heard Jacorey needed work but to me he looked like he has lots of potential. I like him. Some bigs we've had in the past had sloppy looking shots. Not him. He is smooth and his jumper was not bad at all. I liked his ability to take it to the rim on his first points as a Razorback. Loved Coty and Qualls. Coach has this program rising.
-
Just back from the game and it had a very weird feel to it. We turned them over a lot but we were not able to get in transition. We also had sloppy play and gave up at one point three 3's in a row. I think we gave up a total of 8.
It is just a work in progress defensively. Again....we were slow rotating and out of position quite a bit. We are going to have to get that fixed.
It is quite clear to me that right now Clarke is our 3rd best player maybe 2nd. If he is coming off the bench that will be big time come SEC play.

good stuff...
-

Probably so. It's a win, it is only the starting point. The one thing that concerns me at this point was being minus 10 on the boards. They did make up for it with steals and blocks, but they really won this game based on the 32 to 6 free throw advantage. Lots of room for improvement, which is to be expected at this point.

This will happen a lot with a MA team, just try to keep it close to even and we will win many more games than we lose.
-
It was good for these guys to be tested early in the season. At least they don't crumble down the stretch like so many of Pel's teams would have.

You won the most you ever have or probably will and you bitch about rebounding? Nice.
-
You won the most you ever have or probably will and you bitch about rebounding? Nice.
We have been complaining about the same thing since Mike got here. Point is it's not that big of a deal.
-
You won the most you ever have or probably will and you bitch about rebounding? Nice.
And then Mizzou regressed.
If you're honest with yourself you'll eventually bitch about rebounds some. You also may become a bit superstitious about how it seems so many teams have record 3 point shooting accuracy against the Hogs, some nights.
But eventually, the Hogs will lessen (not eliminate) these aggravating tendencies and their helter skelter will create enough chaos to override the deficienices. That's when it will be fun. It's hard to say if the Hogs will gel and start trusting each other defensively this year. When they do, last night would have been a 40+ point win.
Hope it happens this year. Hope it happens by February.
-

lol Say what??
