CBs for Blayne Toll and Janari Dean
« on: February 10, 2019, 03:08:17 am »

Up late and noticed that Arkansas picked up 247 CBs for Blayne Toll and Janari Dean.  The CBs for Toll have been mentioned in other threads, but I haven't noticed any for Dean.  He's a 6' 190lb Safety from Batesville, MS, with offers from Ole Miss and MSU.  He's unranked on 247 and a 5.6 3* on Rivals (also listed as the #11 player in MS).

https://247sports.com/Player/Janari-Dean-46046825/

https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2020/janari-dean-229526

Just a reminder that any commits we accept this early will be players our coaches really want, since they're going after their top targets first.  One of the CBs for Dean is from a MSU insider, too.

Same area (Panola County) as KJ Jefferson. Looks like we are trying to establish a foothold right on OleMissyís front lawn. .

Davenport had an article on him like we were recruiting him as a running back .. and considering Traylor is his lead recruiter and craddock is the secondary .. I would believe this too be true

Hogs want him at RB, not safety. Intrigued though, I think heíll be better S and we could still get some better RB. But did put up some stats as alluded to! No ranking, but offers from OM/MSU at least. Would be solid addition, bet he blows up down the line.

Boatload of good RBs in the early media coverage of 2020 recruiting. One with versatility is a bonus.

Do you truly think that Toll could be on the road to being a Hog? - - - Toll roads can be costly.

Also wonder if he'll be another DMac type debate. have heard he is a stud athlete, and the clamoring for DMac to be a S was incredibly loud. But as mentioned above, it is nice to have that versatility of being projected to be able to play both. Have seen it mentioned during his interview with MSU writer that he believes his best shot at NFL might be as S. He may have changed his tune, or coaches may have done that for him, or there's some kind of formulated plan. But it appears landing KJ is already paying  dividends

I hate to be that guy but Dmac would still be playing in the NFL making pro bowls as a S.  Losing a step or 3 at S doesnít matter as much if you are smart.  With the speed DMAC had losing a few steps he is still faster than most NFL Sís.

RBs are a dime a dozen so if this kid is a better S and wants to play S then thatís what we need to be recruiting him as

Can they play all over the field where it matters in this day and age of modern offensive  football?  Hopefully they can manage more than the impressive 7.3 wins per year in college like DMAC did

I like their chances! Add them to this WR and DL class, develop a QB, and get some stud LBs and yes, I like their chances a lot!

My point is in 2019 the importance of signing someone like a Catalon is far greater to a team then signing of a Spivey.  The RB position is devalued due to replaceability and devaluing of usage.  A Ballhawk at S is so much more important.  If Dean projects to be both a stud S and a stud RB in college then he is of far greater importance to our team as a S and that is where he needs to be recruited.  The fact he knows this and we are still recruiting him as a RB doesnít give me the warm fuzzies about our coaching staff

There are more Kam chancellors careers than ed reeds.   Iím not sure Iíd want to open the can of worms or is a safeties prowl bowl career longer than a RB.  There are outliers for each.

I can tell you for a fact that RBs have the shortest career span.  I thought this was common knowledge??  Literally every stat you can find on any study shows this.  I take for granted how limited HV and Ark fans in general knowledge of anything outside of the Ark sports world is

You want to take a knowledge shot?  Your telling on yourself.

I never said RBís didnít have the shortest life expt.  But a good safety isnít much longer.

I apologize the complexity of my post was over your head.

A quick google presented average retirement age for RB was 30-31.  DBís was 32-33.

Another showed rbís 2.5 years in the league.  DBís 2.97.
