LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT

2017 National Showcase

Patrick Wicklander is a 2018 LHP with a 6-3 185 lb. frame from San Jose, CA who attends Valley Christian Schools. Tall and slender square shouldered build. High leg lift delivery, loads well over the rubber, loose arm coming through to a low 3/4's arm slot. Upper 80's fastball, topped out at 90 mph, gets good sink and running action, works to spot his fastball low and on the corners. Throws a big slow curveball with good feel and drips it in for strikes. Arm slot indicates slider and he mixed a couple in. Did not observe a change up. Has the ability to mix it up and pitch and keep hitters off balance. Verbal commitment to Dallas Baptist.

I've heard he basically pitches like Casey Murphy but just has a bit more velocity.

I hope by the end of this season that he is everyone's favorite new hog.

Also available for the 2020 season will be our TCU transfer Coby Boulware who was on the Freshman AA team with Martin and Kjerstad. He had a 2B and a HR in the scrimmage. The 2020 team will be loaded.

After watching a few early scrimmages, the depth of pitching really stands out. Seeing Kospy, Zeb, and Scrog pitching 2 - 3 innings like starters is very encouraging for sure. We have many that could step up in a starter role if needed.

Concerning Wicklander, having a good lefty can take a good team and make them great. MLB hitters have problems facing them, some college players cant handle them at all.

Last years trip to the finals didn't come out like we wanted. But there are still benefits from being there. There is not a player in this country looking to play college ball that does not know who Dave Van Horn is. I think Hog Baseball will be really good for years to come.
