I just don't see these grad transfers staying in the same conference, let alone the same division. Maybe I'm wrong.

It's mostly observation, but I also think that a grad transfer still retains some school pride for the university he graduates from and the teammates he is leaving. That may be an overly naive view, but its how I'd feel in the situation. Have we seen an interconference grad transfers yet?

He looked pretty good in the games he got action in. I was a little surprised that he got beat out by Monde. I think Monde may be a little more mobile, but I thought Starkel was the better arm.

Well, not exactly. He regained his starting position. However, SMU left the door open for
continued competition.

Rhett Lashlee needs a runner for his offense. Which Brown at SMU does better

Starkel graduates in May, eligible immediately with 2 years of eligibility. He will be the same as Buechele. Those two guys plus Josh Jackson from VT will lead to some interesting late spring recruiting on the grad transfer side. Starkel is more of a drop back. Buechele is the dual threat. Jackson mix of both. You really can't go wrong if we land of the 3 as a grad transfer and give Ben Hicks more competition in the summer.

Does Jackson have 2 years to play as well?  If so, we really need to land any one of these 3 guys.  All are better than anyone on campus currently, including Hicks.  Even if KJ Jefferson is the real deal, it would be nice to ease him with some mopup duty in year one and then see where we stand in year 2.  If he beats out Starkel, Buechele, or Jackson in year 2, then we are sitting pretty at QB.  If not, we have an experienced QB who will allow him some more time to get ready.

He will have to appeal I believe. He already RS, and despite the 4 game rule and him being injured, it still has to be granted. He'll likely win, not sure where he stands on that process, but haven't heard him interested here at all.

Not that I know of.  I watched an interview with him from a few days ago.  Sounded to me like his top three were Ohio State, Arkansas, and SMU.  Said we're talking to him a lot.  He also mentioned Arizona in passing.  This was before Buechele committed to SMU.  I'd have to think we're in pretty good shape with him.  Just gotta stay on him and hope for the best.

If he goes to oHIo St, he would set the bench. That would be pointless.  He might can play here.

Kinda my thoughts with Ohio State, especially since they just added Fields.

Listened to the podcast. Ohio State is making a good pitch. Telling him if Fields isnít eligible he can come in start for a year and then Transfer again assuming he canít go to the NFL after.

We need to hope Fields gets eligibility this year

That's kind of a backhanded compliment.

Yeah, you're good enough to play for us if things go to hell this year -but don't unpack.

Could Starkel beat Hicks (with experience and time in offense in spring) out for starting job? or does Starkel back up this season and start 2020 then hand off to KJ?

I think it would be hard for Starkel to beat him out by the season opener. But I wouldnít be surprised if Starkel ended up starting by the second half of the year.

He would almost be guaranteed the starting job for 2020 IMO

Not only did Starkel have at least a couple of big games, UCLA before the injury and WF in the Bowl, but he is already famous for the Tate Martell tweet.

Not every recruit has started a whole social media uproar over Martell making the "Nick Starkel, he's a$$ my dude" tweet when he was advised to decommit from A&M by an unnamed person.

Martell has also insulted Justin Fields on twitter apparently.Tom Mars, the attorney who filed the infamous lawsuit vs OM for Hooten and got the OM transfers immediate eligibility at their new schools, felt compelled to issue a statement that he was not representing Martell as he did Fields..

Tate Martell must be a real piece of work. Mars reportedly told someone he not only didn't rep Martell but was not interested in doing so..

Not even Hooty was a big enough jackal to be rejected as a client by Mars, but Martell was.. That speaks volumes..

Starkel is not just a luxury, but a must get.  Not only would he be the starter in 2020 (further allowing KJ to develop), but he will be starting before mid season simply bc Hicks isnít an SEC caliber QB and is going to get exposed as such as soon as conference play starts

Starkel did voice concerns about playing against A&M in a podcast, so it is not a slam dunk that he comes here. AZ is where Sumlin is, the HC who signed him at A&M but Khalil Tate came back for another year.

Duke is losing Daniel Jones their starter at QB. I hadn't heard Duke mentioned as a possibility for Starkel until today, so he could go there I suppose. Even though he won't graduate until May, neither will Buechele, so one would think Starkel will commit somewhere fairly soon before everyone in the QB market fills up.

Otherwise he might have to wait and see if a starting QB gets in trouble or hurt in spring ball. That's risky since no one lets their QB get hit in spring practice..

Yea, same here.  I watched a little film of both yesterday and Starkel appears to have more talent, but Hicks already knows the system and does a good job of cycling through receivers.

Duke removes him from the SEC West and he can play a couple years for Cutcliffe.  This will be a tough sale, and I'm not sure the VTech kid isn't a better fit.

Better watch out for FSU and Kendal Briles.  They may slip in and sign Starkel.

With FSU's QB situation, Starkel would be a slam dunk to start for his final two years of eligibility.
