Kyrie keeps being a big baby, maybe Stevens would want to come back to college

Y'all just need to settle down and let Mike get us back to a top fifteen level like he did at Mizzou.

It's starting to look like a plateau.

Ha, I appreciate the sarcasm, but for those who didn't catch it, MA finished in the top 25 once at Missouri.

Darrell Walker.  A lot of Razorback fans totally dismiss Darrell and I simply don't get it.  He'll have UALR in the NCAA Tournament again winning and that team had hit on bad times.  People may think that Darrell plays Suttons style, slow ball, half court, but his team usually scores as much as we do.  He'd come to the UofA tomorrow, it's his dream job.

No...we’ve been down this “Bring insert-name-home” road way too many times.

Gregg Marshall - Been my #1 choice since Heath got fired (took a lot of poopy butt for suggesting him both searches), and yet again he's my #1 if we have an opening. This year is as good as any to poach him away.

Chris Beard is an obvious choice, but I have a hunch that he's not leaving Tech. Still gotta throw some money at him and make him say no.

My #2 is Hoiberg, I think he would be the grand slam hire we are looking for. He's still in his 40s and has proven NCAA experience along with the NBA experience potential recruits would be after.

#3 Musselman
#4 Sampson
#5 Howland/Pearl (poach one)

FYI, there is zero chance Hoiberg, Stevens, or Donovan would come to Arkansas. Not saying Arkansas is a bad job, just none of those make sense. Lots of NBA jobs open, and UCLA will have pick of litter just for being UCLA.

Also, high major coaches aren't moving around much. It would be hard to poach even a Brad Brownell or Richard Pitino type.

Realistic expectations says think retread, up and comer, or coach who seems stalled out somewhere.

I would be stunned if Anderson wasn't here next season, but I really like John Brannen or Earl Grant. Both have significantly better records than Pelphrey did at South Alabama.

I'd give Shaka Smart a call at Texas and see if he is ready for an early divorce from Texas.

Anthony Grant as a backup option. My all else goes wrong option? Grant McCasland. And I think he actually may have a case of being way underrated as an option.

Those are give good names. Only Shaka Smart wouldn't say yes right away.

Like the football program, I think it is key for this next hire to look beyond the record of the coach. You have to evaluate what are the keys for a coach to be successful at a high level at our program. With Chad Morris, it was Texas Recruiting and Offensive Playcalling.

When I look at our program, we need an identity....a brand. I think Buzz Williams would be the perfect fit here.

ucla is a great job in name only. you do know they still fly commercial. the coaches fly commercial to recruit.

I'm not for or against the idea of making a coaching change.  Just remember this.  We had grand ideas about who we would attract for a football coach and we ended up with a coach who is not even the best in NWA.

So, it's great seeing all these big names thrown around, but at this stage expect another big donor, administration lackey who wins the interview and not at all on the court.  It's what Arky does.

I have no trust or belief change is coming.  This thread is just giving Anderson's supporters targets.

I will say trying to compare a job opening for Arkansas football HC to basketball HC is absolutely ridiculous especially when our football job is open because we are failing badly.  The Arkansas football job is at best 5th in our division and not in the top half of the jobs in the SEC.  The basketball job is at least top 5 if not top 3 in the SEC.

On my list up the page, I listed one low major up and comer, two mid major up and comers, a mid-major retread, and a high major hotseat candidate. I'd be happy with all five at Arkansas, and none are beyond the realm of comprehension, except Shaka Smart if Texas goes on a run this season.

There are good options out there if you look.

Why not Joe Foley?
UTEP legendary coach Don Haskins coached women's basketball for a short time before UTEP.
Why couldn't Foley make the transition? If he could coach the guys as well as he coached the gals at Arkansas Tech and UALR, the Hogs would win the SEC within four or five seasons and would make it past the NCAAT 2nd round!
I'd take that for sure!

Agreed.

I do fear what a replacement would look like. A coaching change should only be made if: 1) a definite upgrade is likely 2) results are so bad that any change is more desirable.

I don't see #2 ever happening, as rough as this season may play out. Don't think I'll ever be convinced of #1.

What does the AR program have going for it, that is so great it would be devastating to think of losing it?

If we make a coaching change this year then we need to hire Grant McCasland from North Texas.  While he was at ASU I got to speak with him on multiple occasions and I watched him first had in his summer camps and while coaching ASU.  He 100% knows what he is talking about and his players respect him.  He is very detailed and demanding on his players.
He has been very successful everywhere he has been his entire coaching career.
When he was at ASU he had one of the biggest season turnarounds as far as wins in school history.
ASU record in 2015 - 2016 before McCasland arrived 10-20.
ASU record in 2016-2017 with McCasland 20-12.
ASU record in 2017 - 2018 without McCasland 11-21.
UNT record 2016 - 2017 season before McCasland arrived 8-22.
UNT record in 2017 - 2018 with McCasland 20 -18.
Currently in his second year at UNT his record is 16-2.

One other notable accomplishment.  McCasland has won 10 different coach of the year awards during his career.

Upon further thought, barring something crazy like an NBA coach wanted to trade in the NBA life for a rebuild or NC State just letting Kevin Keatts walk, my list is as follows;

1. Earl Grant
2. Grant McCasland
3. John Brannen
4. Steve Forbes

I am guessing Steve Forbes is untouchable by a top program, but he has won everywhere. I only want to go up mid- or low-major if they were a P5 assistant at some point and have consistently won.

I'd at least call Buzz Williams and Kevin Keatts and make them say no.

A lot of these top notch coaches that people are saying we don't have a chance at are at lesser basketball programs than us.

Arkansas is 9th in attendance, 1 spot below Tennessee.  Oddly, Nebraska is tenth.  But ahead of Arkansas is mainly a bunch of blue bloods.  College basketball viewers have been in decline the past 5 years and there only 61 million viewers of college basketball in the US.  But apparently, the south represents 37.5% of viewership.  UNC, Duke, UK, is a lot of that, but I bet Arkansas is pulling in major viewers too.

Not only that, Arkansas puts out and is near to some really good talent.  Great facilities.  Arkansas should be able to whack off a Texas Tech, WICHITA STATE, AUBURN, etc...
