Another QB Enters the Portal
« on: January 11, 2019, 01:38:15 pm »

OU's Austin Kendall

Would be a grad transfer with two to play.

Here's his recruiting profile:  https://247sports.com/Player/Austin-Kendall-33057/high-school-128715/

Morris/Craddock are both following him on twitter, and he follows them.

I just saw this on espn.com. To me, this is a signal that OU is likely to bring in yet another transfer QB in 2019.

I had thought they might not, but now this is changing my mind. Rattler isn't arriving until summer there and even though he is a 5 star, he is not considered nearly as ready to take over a playoff contender as Lawrence was.

It's just putting so much onto a kid's plate as a FR to lead a college team without the benefit of spring practice. Any college team, let alone one that figures to win their league and be a playoff contender..

Manny Diaz may have taken Enos in part to sway Hurts, but there are reports of mutual interest between Hurts and OU. Hurts' Dad predicted his son would become the "biggest free agent in CFB history" a while back. May be coming true..

*An article on 24/7 suggested Kendall might have gotten wind of Murray going back to OU for another season. Since it was said earlier than the A's only agreed to let him play one year of CFB, one would assume that the plan would be to pay back the signing bonus and concentrate of football.

There has been much speculation that Murray would jump to the NFL and pay back the A's anyway, but this is the first I've heard of this possibility. The only reason to go back would be to try to win a NC, as he would be likely to be taken in the first round this year with the NFL sea change on QBs..

What I saw says he is a Pro-Style QB. Does this fit CCM offense? It seems that a dual-threat is much more needed to run what Chad wants.

Can get him in here for the spring, AND he has two years to play?  Very interesting.

Yep, probably a bigger gamble since he's played so little, although they were Heisman trophy winners he was backing up.

I was perusing the OU boards and a lot of them seem to think he had a good chance at winning the job this year.

Well........we had several that thought Ty would be the answer last/this year. I would prefer someone who could enroll immediately, so he fits that, but they definitely have less tape on him than some others. They're going to sign someone, I'm sure there's a pecking order to it.

You think it put a Hurts on his confidence of playing next year? See what I did there?

Could be. Out of all the possibilities on where he could go, OU is the one that would give him the best chance of going to the CFP.

After going the first three years of his career, it would be tough to go to the Tax Slayer.com Bowl or any of the others.

Kendall knows something is up and it's not just any old grad transfer coming in would be my guess..

And another, Braxton Burmeister from Oregon.  4 star dual threat originally from California, although he just entered with the 2017 class so not sure if he is a grad transfer or a sit a year transfer.  It's getting nuts.

With all these transfers I'm sure we'll end up with a solid QB.

With the way this staff is apparently chasing Illingsworth, it wouldn’t seem to be a problem for them to bring in a pro-style QB.

I really like Beuchelle but it sure would be nice to get a solid qb signed and enrolled before the month is over.

Not only would it help tremendously for spring camp but it would settle my nerves a lot for the coming year 😁

The RPO system is not specific for a dual threat qb. (See Drew Brees, Nick Foles, etc)

The zone read is specific for a running qb. (Think Cam Newton, etc) Morris does not seem to run zone read much but does run RPO. That being said he seems to like to recruit dual threat guys but as you show he can be successful with both

May not be a 4.5 guy but saw him run a couple times and it looks to run under a 4.8 so that would get us a 5+ yard gain or scramble around enough to get him an extra 2 seconds to pass.

Ya i felt he had a very similar skill set that lawrence has, but not nearly as polished.

Many OU fans I know were never enthralled with Austin.  Then again they are used to Heisman trophy candidates or winners playing QB and we are used to scraping the bottom of the barrel

OU fans and 'Bama fans are the same except for the accents and the hounds tooth hats. Both wear red and think their team is supposed to go undefeated every year and win every game by blowout.

When they played in the Sugar Bowl a few years back there were fights in the stands, one involving a married mother of 2 kids.

The woman, a 'Bama fan, reached over the people in the row in front of her to grab an Okie by the neck and start throwing haymakers after the guy talked smack to her in typical Okie fashion. Right in front of her husband and kids...

Two psycho-football-is-more-important-than-breathing fan bases that are too much alike to get along.

Until this year we had like 5 draft worthy qbs in a row. I would say we were pretty spoiled until Austin's last year.

Kid has big arm that is for sure.
he makes the long and accurate throws even off his back foot. That would be huge for us for obvious reasons....

Here's my comparison- He LOOKS like Phillip Rivers out there. even had a few side arm throws like darts in there.

It may have just been coach speak to keep the competition going, but the OU coaches stated the QB competition between Murray and Austin came down to the wire last year.  By many accounts, Murray is the real deal but playing for a school where the real deals are common.

I think we would highly consider this Kid.

OU rumor is Tanner Mordecai (RS Freshman) looks better than AK, AK may not have been as focused as they would like off the field. Then of course Rattler is coming in and wouldn't be surprised to see them wind up with a grad transfer.  AK looking for a new start.
