How did Switzer let the '78 Orange Bowl happen?  Sometimes its just your turn to get hammered.

And Venables was very aggressive on defense and had his secondary well prepared.  On both sides of the ball, they did things Bama had not seen and weren't prepared for.  Tua was never comfortable with what he was seeing and was under pressure.  Bama could have run for 250-300 yards and worn down Clemson.  But they feared their secondary wouldn't hold up, they had no speed rush and they needed to outscore Clemson.  Football has changed a lot in a few years.

This was 3 straight games to end the season where Bama did not play well.  Penalties, turnovers, poor kicking game.  They got the first half cushion vs OU and the Smart meltdown and Hurts heroics.  Blew their chance last night to get up on Clemson and hang on.

Bama couldnt score in the redzone... should have kicked a couple field goals instead of going for all the 4th downs. Playcalling for Bama was suspect at times also.

Maybe you missed the extra point doink?  If you cant make a PAT, pretty sure no coach wants your leg in a pressure situation.  It was announced that Bama had missed 9 PATs this season...more than any team in foozeball.

Both teams were loaded with talent. I think the bottom line is Alabama got out coached. Even before the game started and during the game.

The pick 6 just set the tone.  From that minute forward, Bama was always on their heels.  When Saban watches that back, he is going to forever question why they didn't load up and run the ball FAR more than what they did, and especially in the first half.  They could have worn Clemson down with TOP to the point that they could have scored at will later in the game.

The problem was...even when Clemson had horrible field possession, their tall receivers and a QB that was accurate enough to throw high...was more than Bama could overcome.  Bama's recipe all season was to rush four successfully with an occasinal blitz, and disguise the fact that their secondary and LB'ers weren't nearly as talented as they have been in year's past.  Clemson exposed that, and Bama ended up trying to play catch up by throwing the ball, and never really took advantage the thing they were doing well...running the ball.  Bama might have done better if they had played more zone, and tried to take away the long pass plays.

I also think Dabo has better assistant coaches at this point in time, and their game planning was much better.  It also doesn't hurt when you have players make the plays of their lives, over and over.

I just think Clemson was the better team.  I think they're enough better that if they played 10 times, they would win 7-8 of them.  IF BAMA had taken the ball first, and run it right down the field and taken a lead...then maybe they commit more to the run and dictate.  But....it's very possible that Clemson would have just hit them with a quick strike right back.

The fake punt...was comical.  One of the dumbest calls ever.  I hope Hog fans remember that the next time our coach does something they think is dumb.  Even one of the best to ever roam the sidelines calls a stinker from time to time...

take your chances... because the play calls on 2 of those 4th downs were horrendous calls.

Even with all of that, it was 31-16 early 2nd half when Tua missed a TD pass he completes 9/10 times. A score there makes it a 31-23 one possession game and possibly changes the complexion, no fake punt etc... .

Totally agree.  Those should have been 2 tds.  Take the 2 INTS away there is another 14.  Bama gave them everything....I will stand by that statement.

Bama hurt themselves just as many times as clemson hurt Bama. Not sure if Bama could have won but they could have made it more interesting if they didnt start pressing so early and thinking they needed to be Pulaski academy every 4th down.

I have said many times this year that Bama's defense was not the typical dominating defense that has won them championships. Clemson exposed their D last night.

In the past the have had depth along the D line, this year they were lacking in depth along the line.

Bama secondary in 16 had Cyrus Jones and Marlon Humphrey, 2017 had Eddie Jones and Minkah Fitzpatrick. This year they did not have a great secondary as in past years.

Add to this, Clemson dominated all phases of the game. Especially the line of scrimage on both sides of the ball.

Coach Saban got Sabaned last night by Dabo!!

Saban decided to try to outscore everyone when he lost to Oklahoma a few years ago. He has been moving toward becoming an offensive team for the last couple of years instead of working to maintain great defenses. It is finally catching up and he doesn't have the terrific depth and talent he has had in the past.

Saban's DC was.not ready to take over that role.  He got promoted when Pruitt left for Tenner because he is such a great recruiter.  Saban will have to figure that part out.  Gotta keep him for the recruits but get him some help.
