during the Cowboy-Seahawks game was horrible. You just hope not career ending but he'll be in surgery tonight.

I knew when my phone updated me to say there was a leg injury... it must have been bad. Don't think I'll watch. After what Alex Smith went through last month and almost losing his leg, I've had my share of leg snapping in half and ending someone's career for one season, thanks.

Really an ugly  deal. Hate it for the guy. Sickening.
Kudos to Fox for not showing it after the initial replay.

No kidding. My wife fell in a class and broke her arm immediately below the shoulder joint three months ago. Her bruise was from her neck down to her wrist. Good luck to him on his recovery.

It is a wonder it doesnít happen more often.  Defenders continually twist the offensive player as he lands on their legs

I didn't see the play and don't want to, but it just seems to me that over
the last 12--14 years or more the Ref's are not blowing heir whistles soon
enough to end plays. Not like back in the 60's and 70's and etc. This lack
of execution on the Referees part lead to more pile ups in the middle of the
lines of scrimmage and receivers staying upright too long when they have
no where to go, This causes too many arm busting fumbles by ballcarriers
and receivers.

do not think intentionally, just momentum.  I figure you didnt mean intentionally either.

He indeed had surgery last night. Official release said that absent complications he should be able to play next year.

It was a really nasty break for sure. Hell get his surgery and a titanium ankle for it though. That's the good news. Nowadays its quickly fixable and hell be back with a metal ankle next year. All the same there will be prayers for a swift recovery for mister Hurns.

To think he could ever play again is amazing. I saw the first replay after it happened, smh. It reminded me of Theisman, bad bad deal.

I know a few of you may not recall Joe Theisman's injury on Monday Night Football many years ago but this one looked worse than that for sure. The wife had been asking if there was a replay of it as she stepped out for a moment. I told her she did not want to see it. I did notice a whole lot of class by both teams and coaching staffs showing concern and prayers after the incident as well. That was a bit refreshing to see.

Best of luck to that young man and wishes for a speedy recovery.

Alex Smith's has likely ended his career. He was in the hospital for a month. I'm two years older than him and my back hurts every day of my life. I can't imagine what his body feels like at 34 after a life of football. I can't imagine someone at his age coming back from a compound fracture that bore an infection that bad.

I would have to agree, I think Alex is done. His contract had a TON of guaranteed money..

I was at a Cowboys watch party last night. A couple guys were out of the room, so the play, including the slo-mo closeup, got replayed. Yeah, the closeup is bad, where you see all the things that led to the leg (tibia-fibula?) snap. Really awful.

First, prayers that Hurns' leg can recover, whether or not he can get back to being football-ready.

it almost happened to Beasley earlier in the game. The Seattle DBacks were hanging onto the ball carrier and dragging them down backwards. I told my wife someone was going to get hurt and sure enough.

They're dirty as it gets. Reading blogging the boys and saw this comment:

Surprise, surprise, Seattle players injuring other players in the playoffs. Did you guys see that tackle? He knew exactly what he was doing folding the guy backwards and putting his knee in the back of his legs. Our coach used to warn all of us wide receivers about how dirty corners and safeties would tackle certain ways to try and hurt you. Iím sure he didnít "intend" to snap his ankle but I guarantee his intent was to do "some" damage if possible.

And THAT is why i quit playing football after 9th grade lol. I saw some nasty injuries.. Our Qb broke broke his femur in 7th grade and looked like he had a football sticking out of his leg. Saw a couple of nasty broken arms. One was completely bent in a L shape in the middle of the forearm. I almost threw up on that one.

I paralyzed a kid in 8th grade. I wasn't a particularly big kid or anything. I was a DE making a normal tackle and he lowered his head into me and when we went to the ground all I remember is him going limp beneath me. I was never the same mentally after that with the game of football. I continued playing for awhile, but I'd always be hesitant after that, where before I would just throw myself around like bowling ball.
