How long did it take for Lawrence to unseat KB?

is it too much to wish that KJ could come in and be ON FIRE!

Could be
It will depend on his picking up offense probably more than physical talent.
It would help if he was coming in January
Still need a transfer
Hoping for kid from buffalo myself
Or Notre Dame

I'd take the kid from Buffalo over Wimbush. Wimbush can't pass. But, KJ could set the world on fire. We won't know until he gets on campus. Freshman are starting to prove that they can play. See Manziel, Lawrence, and Jake Fromm, Tua.

There's a big difference in coming in January, and June. KJ will have missed out on about 4 months of workouts/film/playbook time, and of course 15 spring practices. So, basically, he will be 4 months behind were Lawrence is in his development, that's assuming everything in that department is equal at Clemson and Arkansas.

Lawrence was the top HS QB prospect in the country...but then, life's easy playing QB behind the Clemson OL.

I think Lawerence took over as starting QB around the 3rd or 4th game.  But a QB like Lawerence are very rare and probable come around about once every 4 years or longer to very few schools.  Most Fr QBs are still trying to learn the plays and find their Classes much less take their team to a national title.   But here is the difference.  Clemson did not expect Lawerence to be the MAN so they recruited QBs very well and let the competition take care of who starts and who does not.

This is the reason I want to sign not only a Sr QB transfer but a So or Jr Transfer QB also even if he has to RS.  I want us to have several options and let the competition make all the QBs better and the best guy wins.

Lawrence is a very rare talent.  He has lost only 2 games as a starting QB (includes both High School and Clemson).  He was 52-2 as a starter in High School, including a 41 game winning streak.  He threw for 13,908 yards and 161 touchdowns in High School, and his Senior season he threw only 1 interception.

There are High School Head Coaches in Georgia who faced both Deshaun Watson and Lawrence, and they have stated when interviewed that they won't be surprised if Lawrence surpasses what Watson did at Clemson.  They have stated that Lawrence is very difficult to defend.

Jefferson will be a good QB for us, but it really would be unfair to Jefferson to expect him to be like Lawrence.  There is a difference in the talent level.  Jefferson will win us some games, and that is what we need for our program to improve.

No reason he can't.

Considering there are roughly 70k collegiate football players at all levels, and maybe a handful of freshmen per year make that kind of impact, its hard to expect it.

Lawrence IS rare. I posted an article in RF a few days ago. The writer said that Lawrence and Rosen were the best 2  high school quarterbacks he'd seen in 20-something years.

KBryant was very successful at Clemson.  Makes you question why they sit the starter for a freshman.
I heard Rick Nueheisel comment about this before Bryant announced where he would transfer.  RN said that for Dabo to get Lawrence, the number 1rated qb, Dabo had to promise his family that he would start.

This really is simple, KJ is not considered the best player, not just QB, but the best player in his class. He also went to Clemson with the expectation of competing for the starting job in the spring and fall. Nobody is thinking about KJ in those regards and he won't have the spring to learn the offense and get those reps and all of the off the field coaching that Lawrence received. There have been multiple people saying he would be one of the best 25 or so QBs in the NFL right now. I love KJ but I have seen more than 1 report that he is raw.

Eason at UGA was supposed to be the end all be all but turned out to be soft, Frohm comes in and takes over the 3rd play of the season last year and took over as a true freshman and takes the to the NCG hmmm he wasnít considered the best quarterback in the country. I doesnít matter what the so called experts think or how high a player is rated all that matters is can they step up when they get a shot. Maybe KJ can or not but What do we have to lose, I bet he can if he has played in some big games with lots of pressure like most big time players coming out of high school have. Just my 2 cents

This is the reason we need a transfer QB.  We need KJ to be able to step in and play when he is ready to step in and play.  Lawrence was ready so he took the job.  KJ may pick it up very quickly.  He could turn out to be the best qb in Arkansas history.  But it would be a huge mistake to expect him to learn the offense in 3 weeks and run it with success.

I mean, there's a decent chance that KJ takes the starting spot.

But uh...it's not the same as Lawrence taking the spot from a guy that lead his team to a championship appearance and only had 2 losses.

Lawrence was the #1 recruit in his class, and one of the highest rated QBs of the decade coming out of high school.

thanks for all of the responses.

does KJ have to be on campus to

1. get a copy of the play book?
2. meet online with coaches?
3. get personal training tips, plans from UA?

are there other legal ways to accelerate his knowledge?

what are the differences between Lawrence and KJ that points to KJ not being able to adjust like Lawrence did?

what other factors?  everyone is essentially NEW.

Thatís easy.

1. KJ is not a 5star #1 player out if his entire class

2. KJ is not on a CFP team surrounded by NFL talent

3. KJ is on a team that has won a combined 6 games in the last two years

4. KJ plays in the SEC West

There are an infinite number of reasons KJ will not be Trevor Lawrence. Donít push the envelope. KJ will be a good QB in due time. Trevor Lawrences donít grow on trees

I think KJ has a good chance to unseat the Starter somewhere next season..just because his skill set seems to fit more of what Coach Morris envisions his offense to be... but you just never know what can happen.  Storey/Nolan make massive jump in improvement over the off season, or a grad transfer comes in. (If We take a grad transfer, IMO it will be ONLY because that guy is penciled in to be a starter).

As for productivity on the field and it reflecting wins'losses.. that will be more a dependent aspect on the surrounding cast...and since KJ doesn't play defense, we HAVE to be much better on that side of ball.  I think hungry players who actually want to tackle, instead of going for the strip every play, would be a huge step up..and our biggest liability in regards to tackling used up all his eligibility this last season.

KJ could absolutely be like Lawrence, just like the little kid on Angels in the outfield, "It could happen".

The likelihood is so slim and this is often an issue with Hog fans.  They can't see the difference, it requires almost putting down a player to make the point, yet there is absolutely no reason to put down KJ.  The guy is a gamer, a player, and appears to be a stud coming in to his freshman year at Arkansas. If expectations to be Lawrence are put on him, he is doomed from day 1 though.

NFL teams would draft Lawrence number 1 overall right now if they could.

KJ will unseat the starter next year in the 8th or 9th game of the year. That way he can still redshirt and be the guy for the last 3 or 4 games. (giving that there aren't huge leaps from someone on campus). He will get more experience by waiting to play later in the season just because he is going to get to campus so late.

This is like expecting T.J. Hammons to come in, win the starting spot, and rush for 1,000 because DMac did it as a freshman. Lawrence was essentially college football's LeBron the way many recruiting reporters describe him.

Even if KJ is a "sleeper" next level talent like Ms. Lawrence (who ever said dude looks like a lady above was spot on), it would be a disservice to throw him to the wolves until the OL comes together.

Compound that with him not being on campus early and he needs time to learn the playbook and be able to run the play vs. run for his life.  Even Lawrence wouldn't have performed well on last years team.  One huge advantage he had was in having a complete team around him, both offense and defense, that allowed him to find his rhythm.

Hope KJ is the man, just don't want to break him before we see what he can do.

If the question is could KJ come in and just have that it factor, adjust to college life, learn enough of the playbook and be able to precisely execute  at least enough different plays to be able to attack all areas of the field, yes it is certainly possible for him to come in and take over reins of starting qb by the
3rd or 4th game.

If you are asking if ,he is the 2nd coming of T.L., sure, anything is possible, though highly inprobable, and he does not have to be. Let's let him be the 1st K.J., has a different skill set.

Sure, there is not someone with the talent and resume of K. Bryant to unseat, but at the same time there are 3 qbs already on campus who were heavily recruited and rated 4 stars by at least one major recruiting service.

You are right, but he is the BEST player in Mississippi.  Lots of young player have come and risen to top.. Clemson and Alabama are two that readily come to mind.  You can't get any better than those two programs.  Looks like we have a high probability of giving a new, or old QB with game experience, the support he needs.  I'm too old to keep saying "Maybe Next Year".... let's support these coaches and incoming class.

Best player in Mississippi in Class 3A, not best player in Mississippi overall. That would be Nakobe Dean from Horn Lake High School. He was a 5* LB that signed with Georgia, Horn Lake also plays in 6A. 6A is waaaaaaayyyy better than 3A in MS.

KJ is the 15th best player in MS according to 247 sports and Rivals.

Sure, there is not someone with the talent and resume of K. Bryant to unseat, but at the same time there are 3 qbs already on campus who were heavily recruited and rated 4 stars by at least one major recruiting service.

The question was geared towards could KJ gain enough knowledge between now and fall camp while improving physically so that he could come in and actually compete with after a few games taking over.

I know that he is not currently the same level as TL but for Arkansas, will he be our best option?

Why can't Scoota be like Khalil Mack next year?
Why can't Trey Knox be like Jerry Rice?
Why can't Agim be like Dan Hampton?
They all could, and if you don't believe they will then you aren't a real Hog fan.
