I believe this is a good hire.  In DVH I trust.

Who could argue with DVH results?  DVH is probably the best coach we’ve had since John McDonald.

This kid might be really good, and it sounds like he know me what he is doing creating a pitching lab.  If I was a pitching prospect, I would want to visit to see what he is doing.  Impressive.

How does that salary compare to A- other pitching coaches in the SEC and B- some of the other names that others brought up as hopeful replacements?

He's 38. Not a kid.

LSU's makes $300k, I didn't look at any others. I figured they paid the highest.

Most MLB pitching coaches make between 150K-350K. Wes Johnson was slated to make $260K this coming season. So, Hobbs starting out at $220K is probably is about right with plenty of room for raises.

Wes Johnson was hired away from an elite-ish program (MSU) and has coached in the CWS finals twice.

Hobbs seems like a good to great hire... but neither of those things are true about him.  So it makes sense he would make less for now.

Don't think so. He was only at MSU one year and they lost in Supers that year.

That's what I came up with too based on his assistant coaching history (UCA, Dallas Baptist, Miss State, Arkansas). But I didn't know if I was missing some off the wall stop as a grad assistant at such and such school.

I'm not the first person to mix up wes johnson and butch thompson.

Point remains, Wes has accomplished more - it makes sense his salary would be more.

I think the main question now is what is Hobbs making compared to the other names brought up on this board as hopeful candidates with much stronger resumes

I would imagine the main question would be whom did DVH offer the job to.

I'm curious about that as well.  We likely will never know where Hobbs actually was on the pecking order.  Let's hope he can pick up where Johnson left off despite the major regression from his pitching staff last year in his 4th year while having a 1st round pick
