Cowboys Respond
« on: November 11, 2018, 10:39:21 pm »

It was pretty clear that Garrett and Dak are feeling the pressure, as they should.  Dak responded with a good solid effort on the road and Garrett pulled out the stops and made some plays.  However, part of their problems were still evident.  They still get dumb penalties that kill drives.  They overcame a couple of them tonight, but they were fortunate.  Garrett MUST instill discipline within the team and eliminate most of the unforced errors that they commit.  OL did better than recent weeks, but must do better protecting.  Maybe this game will be the spark that gets Dallas going and maybe the team will correct the self-destructive penalties and assignment failures that put their backs against the wall.  One thing is clear.  Amari Cooper is a better trade off to Dez right now because they are getting similar production with none of the drama.

Dallas has a very good Defense. Maybe Amari is just what the offense needed.   Say what you want about Jerry, but he has done a great job building this Defense through the draft.

Responded again for second week in a row.  While their conference is the weakest in the NFL, Dallas will move into first place with a win Thursday over Washington.  They better win first because a wildcard won't be coming from that group this year.  I will believe they can make the playoffs with a strong finish when I see it happen.

It is great to see.  Hurting the Raiders draft pick lol   This will mean they keep that awful HC and they still won't win a playoff game. Perfect scenario.

Go into next season delusional again

Dak outplayed Brees tonight by gawd. Lol

Both defense were great, but Dallas d completely shut down who dat.

Refs were awful both ways. Saints only touchdown came after 4 penalties on one drive against Dallas and then scored the touchdown on what should’ve been offensive pass interference. Oh well.

In a perfectly ref'd game and if Dak just makes that easy TD pass he overthrew in the 4th, cowboys win by double digits.

Agreed aloha.

That pass came immediately after that big first down run by Dak. I think he was too amped up on that throw, but yeah that would’ve sealed the deal.

I was rooting for My Saints - as I have since their inception.
But got to give it up to the Dallas Defense who shut down the Saints offense - something I didn't think they could do.

Great win for the Cowboys - who needed it.

This is the best Cowboys defense since one of the Doomsdays.  Who else in the league is going to beat the Saints when scoring 13 points?

You're such a class act, and gracious.  Give me Romo as QB coach/OC and Sean Payton, fix the banged up oline and Dallas wins another SB. Unfortunately I doubt the defense can carry this offense far enough to get'r done.
Probably still looking at Saints or Rams in the NFC this year.

I was just so impressed with the Dallas defense.
It takes a lot to get Brees off his game and they did that all night.

The 2009 and 2003 cowboys defenses were 2nd in the league in scoring.

While this d is good, there’s still a quarter of the season left to match those teams.

Dallas has shown some grit - FINALLY!  Defense has been pretty good all year, but has been prone to untimely and sometimes stupid penalties that extend drives.  They are still doing some of that, but have been able to overcome it better than last year and early this year.  The improvement in other phases has aided the defense as well.  The offense has eliminated much of its drive ending mistakes that plagued them so much the past season and early this year.  They too are overcoming some of their mistakes with better efficiency and play making.  Simply blocking better, improving the run, and DP starting to make more plays have turned Dallas into a decent team.  That is why it has been so frustrating to Dallas fans, because everyone could see that they have NOT played to their potential in past seasons and were not at all this season.  Hopefully, they have figured it out and will keep it going.

I do wish the cowboys would bring someone in like Romo as QB coach. Dak is a very talented player, but he's made some obvious mistakes that are going to wind up biting Dallas when the playoffs roll around. Garrett saved his job by the amari Cooper trade. And they will most likely get in the playoffs if they keep their defense going. Dallas ability to win on the road against a good team concerns me too. They wind up playing at Chicago or at new Orleans or at LA, I'm not sure they have enough self discipline on offense to win.

But Dak needs a whole lot of mentoring and teaching to get to where he needs to be. I just don't think who Dallas has now at qb coach can get it done long term.

Such a hard team to watch this year. I guess they were due a letdown after last week.

However, they have exceeded my preseason expectations and still some ball left to be played, most likely the postseason.

Today has been a return to the Dallas that we’ve seen more than not in recent years, even with Romo.  Offense shoots itself in the foot more than the opponent.  Defense makes critical mistakes allowing the opponents offense to stay on the field and get points.  Undisciplined, playing without focus and passion, and inability to raise level of play to will themselves into the game.  I know they were due a letdown, but this has been normal in the past.  Be interesting to see if they bounce back the next two weeks.

Interesting stat I saw today.

Only 5 qbs have led their teams to winning seasons the past 3 years: Brady (34), Dak (31), Ben (30), Wilson (28), Mariota (24).

For a little perspective, Romo had 0 at the same age. Dak isnt elite yet (and may never be), but he’s still very young and has proven he’s good enough to win games. I do wish they’d bring in a qb developer and play caller with a championship history for him. I think it’d make a world of difference.

Gutsy performance by the cowboys yesterday. (Even though I would’ve rested everyone lol)

Saw another interesting stat this morning. After the clutch 45+ yard strike to Beasley, Dak has more game winning drives than anyone else in the league over the last 3 years.

Good performance yesterday, although against a 5-11 team that has found a way to lose all year (see failure to close out the game with second and inches within the last three minutes and ball on the Cowboys 10 yard line).

This will be another one and done year.  The Seahawks will come into Jerry World as a wild card and bounce Dallas.  They aren't the Giants, they aren't the Bucs, and they aren't the Redskins.  No team contending for a playoff spot has had an easier schedule than the Cowboys.

That's the way I see it.

That’s just false. The cowboys had the 5th highest strength of schedule of the 12 playoff teams.

Seattle is a tough matchup for sure though.

I was impressed by the win yesterday....particularly with 2 starting OL (Tyron/Zack) & Zeke sitting it out, nothing to be gained in playoff seeding w/ a Dallas win, and the Giants being favored by 7.

Probably will be another one and done year, but unfortunately that's been the norm, so no surprise if they get bounced, and much upside surprise if they do beat Seattle....sorta like the Hogs in the NCAAT.

Cowboys are solid, but the NFC side of the playoffs is really stacked.  I expect them to lose a close one to Seattle.  QB will be the difference.

Regardless, I’m just basking in the mess that is the Pittsburgh Steelers.  What a Glorious choke job this season.

It’s funny because so many have raved about the Cowboys defense this year, mainly because of their shutdown of the high-powered saints offense.

But the cowboys defense was actually better in terms of yards per play and yards per game last year. Their scoring defense is 0.6 better this year though.

Which teams had easier schedules and by how many games?  The Cowboys are 10-6.  The Rams and Saints are 13-3. The Chiefs and Chargers are 12-4.  I don't remember the Bears' record.

What that means is that all those teams hung 2-3 more losses on their opponents than the Cowboys and therefore hurt their opponents' records more than Dallas did.

The Cowboys' best win was of course against the Saints.  If they hold Seattle to 10 points they will probably win, but I don't expect that to happen.

Eagles, Colts, Ravens all had easier schedules accordingly to sportsbettingdime website which was updated yesterday. Rams, Patriots and Texans not only had easier as well, they were the bottom 3 schedules in the entire league.

I don't see how the final TD by Beasley was a catch. He did not have both feet down in bounds. Right knee, the right elbow hits out of bounds, then left leg hits the ground. How is that a catch?

He got a knee down, which qualifies it as a legal catch, but I thought the ball moved from inside his forearm and elbow to outside and then the point of it hit the ground.  It was close but I think he trapped it against the turf.
