Yep! Fall of 78 from Sep to Dec. Onboard the Wheeling in HC-1 Det 3 (The Roentgen Chasers!). It was a NASA/MSC satellite tracker that was available for our mission. Which was: Hauling DOD civilian companies around the Marshall Islands measuring radioactive contamination and fallout from all those "Big Uns" that were tested on Bikini Atoll and other Micronesian Islands. As we discovered, nukes are horrible instruments of destruction for anything they are blown up on, around, or near. I gained a whole new respect for our country's weapons policies after that. It was a real adventure for sure! Oh the "sea stories" from that four months!

My ship [ USS Monticello LSD-35 was in the Bikini Atol testing in 58, then in the JTF-8 testing in Christmas & Johnson Islands in 62 while I was on board...

Christmas Is. had some 30 Nuke blast by 1962...several of my shipmates have died young with cancer.

There were exactly 117 Mizzou students that were killed in WW1.  There were exactly 117 players dressed out for the Vandy game each with the name of one of these fallen soldiers.  The game was played in Memorial Stadium which was dedicated to these soldiers.

OS's should be in Combat Systems but I guess it depends on the platform. BM, RM/IT, ET, and OS all slept in the same berthing.

A class act put on by the team and athletic department and by the Conference/NCAA for letting them sport a name other than the actual players.
