Arkansas-Ole Miss Rivalry
« on: October 12, 2018, 12:19:04 pm »

I was surprised to see how often Arkansas and Ole Miss have played. We have played Ole Miss 64 games from 1908 to present, which is the most of any non-SWC opponent. The record is 35-28-1 Arkansas, and as we know they were one of the few SEC teams that Bret beat consistently.

I also found this interesting article on Red Cup Rebellion (Ole Miss site).

https://www.redcuprebellion.com/2018/10/12/17962524/arkansas-ole-miss-2018-preview-odds-history

Talks about the recent rivalry history from a Ole Miss fan perspective.

Really fun read - loved reading his description of the 4th and 25 Hunter Henry Heave. Some good history about our series with them. Thanks for the link.

HDN coming back to beat us in Fayetteville the season following his departure competes for a place in my top 5 Hog fan low points.

It's a good series with lots of close contests.  I think there's even a disputed contest from way back when.

It has tended to be when Arkansas could beat Ole Miss, Mississippi State and South Carolina (longtime East permanent opponent), the season would shape up to be a pretty decent success. If you are losing those games, then it would go the other way.

Nothing is likely to make this season into a winning year, so obviously this probably doesn't work for this season. But it has been a critical swing game.

If he actually did say that, then that just gives me a lower opinion of him then I previously had.....which was pretty bad to begin with after the mess he created here.

I thought that unlikely, even for Nutt, to say to a passer by.

I remember one rainy, muddy game against Ole Miss back in the 60s at WMS... we got underneath the south end zone bleachers for the second half.....

Said he was drunk in the back of the car too. If he was then he probably did say it.

I honestly think they should be our rivalry game...some bad blood between us, and crazy good games.

The Ole Miss Arkansas series was actually stopped back in either 1960 or 61 if I remember correctly because of the fighting between the two fan bases had gotten so bad a lot of people got hurt, I think the games resumed between the two teams in 1981, They've pretty much played each other ever since.

I’ve heard stories of Hog fans lining Main Street in my home town shouting at OM fans as they drove through town on their way to LR back in the old days.  ;D

my wife doesn't understand why I'm awake, and ready for the game- I've already heard

"Y'all aren't even playing at 11"  & "You have one win"

For obvious reasons, it's the one game each season that I circle.
