If Iím Chad Morris, here is what I do...
« on: September 16, 2018, 06:26:21 am »

I burn the whole damn program to the ground and rebuild. As of this morning, all juniors and seniors are done playing football for the University of Arkansas. Weíll honor your scholarship or, if you choose, weíll sign your release. From this point forward, we are building for the future. Only freshman and sophomores will see the field.

This season is lost. We will...maybe...win one more game. This will be the worst season since 1952...66 years ago...when we went 2-8.

The culture is broken. The players arenít playing. It was this way before Chad Morris arrived. Itís going to take several years to turn around.

there are 85 men on the game day roster. I  played one year on a team with 12 players they'll be fine definitely can't get any worse.

Agreed. How Ramirez hasnít lost his spot is amazing. The blocking by the OL when Kelley  got replaced earned a few boys some time on the pine. Time for a weekly competition for 22 starting positions. It says a lot about your program when a former hog player that couldnít get make a chip shot field goal comes back and does his job perfectly. This culture was built by big ole 386 and thereís a lot of fat that needs to be trimmed.

Youíre damn right. We hold open tryouts. Over the last couple of seasons Iíve seen guys quit. Theyíre not hustling. They donít believe. We rebuild the culture on dogged freakin toughness! Mental and physical toughness. YOU MIGHT COME INTO FAYETTEVILLE AND BEAT OUR ASS BUT BY GOD YOUíRE GOING TO HURT LIKE HELL WHEN YOU LEAVE.

If I were Chad Morris, I'd negotiate a settlement of my contract with the University of Arkansas and turn the football program over Barry Lunney, Jr.

Maybe fire some of his woefully inexperienced offensive coaches and hire some with some skins on the wall. He is going to have to make some tough decisions.  Many blame Bert for the hiring and handling of his assistants that led to poor production.  Morris has as similar issue.  Stack up his offensive coaches against others in the SEC. They are rookies.

And Morris is basically a rookie himself.  Itís not like heís got all this coaching clout to attract top assistants.  Especially after this kind of start at a program with such limited potential.  Iím thinking his options are very few.

Can Storey do that?  Can Kelley?  It might be the thing for both of them to do now.

Yeah, I think you need to make a strong statement. A player or more needs the bench or the door. Especially if they review tape and determine players were quitting. Then make a coaching change. I donít care who, but he needs to show this isnít ok and heís dealing with it.

I agree.   You donít keep playing seniors at this point.  If a senior wants to keep his spot then he has to play every snap like a pissed off SOB.  The culture, mind set; whatever you want to call it; has to change.   It starts with Morris getting pissed.  Then challenging every player.  Playing time is now open at every position and junior and seniors have to be head and shoulders better than freshman and sophomores.  If the competition is even, playing time goes to the younger player.  And Noland and John Stephen Jones are my QBís from now on.  I would even put in some option plays.  A lot of QB runs.  Few passes.  Iíd look at the 2020 game at south bend vs ND asthe target for being good again.  Also, Jefferson would not be my only QB in this class.   Iíd go juco.  Easy sell to the nations best juco QBís:  come to Arkansas and the jobs your to lose.  And Iíd add a few juco offensive lineman.  This is a total rebuild, it will be at least 2-3 years.   The focus needs to be 2020 at ND.  That sucks for the fans, but it is what it is.

Basically, you bench everyone who isnít giving 100%.  You find 22 guys, even if they arenít the most talented, who will give you every ounce of blood, sweat and tears every time they take the field, you tell the quitters to hit the road (while honoring their scholarship) and you get out and recruit like your life depends on it and promise immediate playing time (which they can see is not a lie).

I think there's more than enough film now to see who the quitters are. We'll end up having several transfer after the season because they are going to ride the pine very soon.

Put a team on the field that will give 100%...and stay with them.
This quitters attitude has to be removed.
Better to lose giving your all than lose due to disinterest and quitting.

It would take a Bob Petrino Nick Saban hard ass type coach to do that....CCM is not that, and that's the reason he will NEVER fix this football program. ::) ::)...unfortunately, and I hope I am wrong.

Who is going to coach them team if we don't allow any quitters? Sure as hell won't be Morris or Craddock. If they aren't interacting with HS players or HS coaches, they don't seem to care at all about this program.

I would take responsibility for the teams performance, call for all fans to stay and support the team through the lows and highs, and search for some type of spark or combination that gets this thing going.

No more talking about hammer down or anything else. Its time to go to work and keep our mouths shut. No celebrating after one tackle. If you donít get the job done, the coach should be in your face.

This is a test of leadership. If he canít hold the team and fans together after two games, he will never have a chance.

Let the jokes begin...

You are spot on.

The honeymoon is over. Time to rethink everything.

Chavis and Caldwell might be able to retire, and your guaranteed salary insures you'll never have to work again if you so choose, but the rest of your coaching staff is too young to lose a toehold in the career. Maybe take a small bit of responsibility for promoting a bunch of guys well beyond their experience level.

As a citizen of the Boise area I can tell you Steve Caldwell is one hell of a good coach.   He sees talent, recruits it well, and develops it too.

As for the rest of the D Coaches who knows?

I thought that when I saw how Hedlund performed yesterday. It was between the ears. Fat  Butt had nothing but lard between his. He instilled no sense of confidence among his players. Weíve still got the same players and you canít fix that culture in a few months. Take a player and put him in a different culture and you have Hedlund.
Bielema  ought to be flogged in the public square  and banished to the larder on some desert island.

Need to open the checkbook and try to get Sam Pittman back and try to get Dan Enos back.

When Pittman came he was liking the idea of being close to where he graduated from High School (Grove, OK).

Besides being a very good OL Coach he is also a very good OL recruiter.

Enos is a good play caller when he is not hamstrung, like he was hamstrung by Bielema.

we all have our opinions, we all are crazy about the Razorbacks, and we all think we would be good coaches.
OK, here's mine:  This team does not have a grasp of the offense yet. The QB's and the WR's & TE's are not on the same page. The OL has some problems, I paid attention to the blocking, missed blocks are common to me & they sometimes don't follow up their blocks. Players that have shown something in the first two games don't see the field much; Maleek Williams (23) & Chase Harrell (14) to name a couple. The defense is playing better, but remember what last year was like, they have some ground to make up, but the effort is there. Speed, we don't have enough anywhere, we always seem a little slower vs the other team, offense and defense. I think we have a good coaching staff, they need more time (maybe more that even they thought at first) to get the right fits, and when the players are comfortable in the system.
Now my confession. I notice, and I assume the players do as well, how many people are in the stands at the beginning and end of the game. Booing a player or the team is not acceptable at all to me. Would you boo if your son or grandson was on the team? And what if he made a mistake ?  I'll also admit that I am not now or have ever been a football coach. I like to think I know it all, but I probably don't. But I am a life long Razorback fan, and that will never change.

This program lays at the feet of one person, Jeff Long. He was a work of art, not in a positive way. His great hire and five years of his poor recruits and his offensive comments to the Texas high school coaches. It killed the program. This is created a major hole in our recruiting. We have the pieces in place but it will take time. If I where CCM, I would start using the young QB and build for the future. Think! if we had not firedBobby Petrino where the program would be. It's sad. Jeff, left us with a tremendous debt with a lousy enclosure that was only for the money boys. He screwed us well.

We have difference makers committed that we desperately need to stay with us.   Stunna showed how our roster is made up of about 50% players that did not have ONE SEC offer.  Let that sink in.  We have a team that is half full of SEC recruited players, not even saying SEC level talent but at least they had another SEC team interested.   That shows you EXACTLY what Morris walked into.  There was a reason publications picked this team to go 0-8 in the SEC and talent level was a BIG reason why.

Burks is better than anyone starting at WR right NOW.   Both returning qbs have NO experience running this offense.   Both returning qbs are NOT dual threat by any stretch of the imagination.  It is quite revealing that your true freshman qbs are more equipped physically and mentally to run this type offense.  Caldwell and Chavis have some very talented defensive players committed that this team desperately needs.  K J is the prototypical type qb you need to stretch the defense running or throwing.   I understand the hand wringing because this team has lost to probably the two least talented teams we will play other than Tulsa.

Anyone watching our qbs run this offense and then watching other qbs run the same offense on Saturday can CLEARLY see how we are trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.   Has anyone REALLY seen Ty or Cole run this offense anything like how the North Texas qb was running the same offense.  Let that sink in,  a Sun Belt level qb looking light years better than what are supposed to be SEC level qbs on our team.   I believe Ty has tried to make it work but IMO Cole has never really bought into this offense and it shows.   Our offense is going to really struggle until we get the right type talent in here that has fully bought into this offense and has the accompanying talent to run it the way it is designed to be run.

Go to one of the  state prisons and recruit your football team.  You can get some mean SOBs in a prison any day of the week that would just love to lay a lick on someone.

Don't be a lunatic.  IT can get worseómuch worse!

First order of business would to be on the phone with every Juco QB in the nation. We have immediate playing time at QB. Iíd also put the word out in the sports media world we have an open QB spot. Looking for a player. Looking for a leader that can lead a team.

Chad needs to have a mandatory team and coaches meeting tonight. Anyone late or missed the meeting is immediately off the team. The whole team would watch films of the game. I would stay there for as long as it took to point out every player who did not play 100%, to potential, and who quit on their teammates. I would exclude freshman and sophomores unless I pointed them out on film. All freshman, sophomores, and any upperclassmen I did not point out would be named starting at their positions this next week. Every player would be required to give 100 from there on. Those players would then hit the field for practice with the position coaches.

Every player I pointed out would then be required to meet me in the stadium after said meeting was over. They would run bleachers until I felt like I was satisfied or until I felt like they have the message. If they gave lip, attitude, any indication theyíre not happy they would be off the team. Their scholarship would be honored through the rest of the school year or they could ask for a release and it will be given to any non sec school or a team we donít play on our schedule. If they canít give 100% to Arkansas who gave them the chance in the first place, then Iíd be darned if they gave it to someone else. Iíd purge the roster right then. Whoever survived running the stadium stairs would have an opportunity to win their starting positions and playing time back during practice, but they would not start games or play until theyíve done so. I would figure out who has the heart to stay and to compete and play for Arkansas moving forward. Anyone that didnít make it doesnít want to be here. Itís a conscious descision.

Next, Iíd hold open tryouts for kickers and punters and any other position I feel like we need depth at to make it for the rest of the season. Iíd make it known moving forward this team will respect their teammates, coaches and most of all their University. If I were Chad this team would fear me after today. I would demand their attention, commitment and their excellence. Iíd make it known that the coaching staff is not there to coach their energy level and their effort. That will be a given. When they are given that scholarship it is demanded and expected.

I might purge half the roster but that would be who Iíd ride with the rest of the year.

Lastly, every player would sign out of twitter and off social media the rest of the year. No exceptions.
