Vanderbilt athletic director David Williams II is stepping down.

The first African-American athletic director in the SEC made the announcement Tuesday.

Williams will stay on until a replacement is hired, then become a full-time law professor.

Williams will leave as the SEC's second-longest tenured athletic director, behind Kentucky's Mitch Barnhart.

"I just want them to be able to get somebody that can come in here and keep the ball rolling," Williams told The Associated Press.

During Williams' tenure, the Commodores have won four national championships - in bowling, baseball and women's tennis. Vanderbilt has also won more than 19 league titles and tournaments...

School recently put football stadium improvements at the bottom of the capital improvements list rendering Vandy football a "cash cow".
